Any way to get a statement from HSG about the attempted destruction of their father's legacy? Clark is as much to blame as anyone else.

In fairness, I think talk shows kinda need some breaks so that the hosts don't go insane. I do think XM could do a little better here, I mean, play a song or something.

Most of the music channels I'm aware of are commercial free. A cross promotion is not a commercial advertisement.

So officially, PSV have been given permission to build a stadium but MLS wont publicly endorse that it will be an MLS team playing there. Or maybe theyre figuring out who still who will be playing in which place.

This is what I am wondering. This should be Garber's victory lap with Alder and Precourt. The fact they are not just polite in their statement but totally silent makes me think something else is happening.

Has anyone heard anything on season tickets?

Also, I asked around no one I know outside of Columbus (DC, Chicago) has had anything happen with their season tickets either and none of their sites have any information. So the entire MLS is in the same boat we are.

PSV/MLS haven't yet agreed to the terms and finalized the deal in Austin, yet. But, hard to imagine it would have gotten this far without certainty that MLS backs McKalla and moving ahead.

People have posted here about notification for season ticket renewal, but my rep has not sent me anything yet.

I remember a time when all I wanted to do is watch soccer with friends. My god how that has changed. Also, I have never seen something so toxic as this in the American soccer bubble. MLS has gained a total of 0 new fans and is quickly losing what few they think they have.

Yeah, I suppose we all know MLS has been backing this as evidence by Suttle saying at the meeting last week that we need an extension from the league office or whatever.

They also seem to contradict themselves in their legal filings all the time about "notice." I suppose a league statement would be definitive notice of intent to move. Assuming that hasnt already been established.

San Jose has been renewing season tickets since early July. We had to make a payment before mid-July to go to one of two incentive events.

I feel for you. Until the Crew accept payment for 2019 season tickets, you are on thin ice, sorry to say.

I write this meaning no ill will towards anyone in this massive thread. The thoughts expressed are things that have been bouncing around in my head that I want to voice so that I can prevent the anger over this fiasco from driving me crazy.

    1. I think the Crew are gone. MLS has been complicit in this since the sale in 2013. Garber is a former NFL man and their (the NFL) modus operandi is to extort public dollars subsidies for billionaires paying millionaires to play a game by threatening to move. That threat has to instill fear into MLS cities and what better way than by moving the original MLS franchise? Modell or not, I think they will pay whatever penalty they must to the state of Ohio and leave. They will dare the city/state to seize the team by eminent domain.

    2. We can all probably point to franchises in cities that are struggling. They are probably in large cities that the NFL types insist they must have teams in. It is the "non-glamour" cities like Columbus, that must feel the heat. In all honestly, the "big" cities don't care if MLS is there. They are not considered big time.

    3. The potential buyers in Columbus probably passed on the team in 2013 because they realized what a fraud the whole thing was. I am not sure why they are pursuing it now but when your primary product (live soccer) is a loss leader and your secondary product (SUM) is your cash cow, something is seriously wrong with that business model.

    4. I hope the Crew is saved despite the hate I have for MLS and US Soccer. I have so many great memories of my now grown sons going to games and camps that I hope they aren't completely tarnished by the "former" Columbus Crew.

Sure. Sort of like Pamplona. It's ended badly, for horses and riders alike. Still, it's the one sporting event (if that's even what it even is) that I most want to see in person in my life. Vogue produced a beautiful, short video about the pageantry and passion leading up to the August 2015 race, won by the Selva contrada.

My wife and I happened to be in Siena that September, and stayed in that neighborhood, which was still bedecked in the flags and banners that represent it; the contrada was still rubbing its victory in the faces of its neighbors.

Anyway, as happened in July, too, it seems that Canale3 YouTube feed failed again. I'm sure they'll post the video from today's race...sometime. Dammit.

I'd expect him to try to take anything of value, including the team's record and history and whatever funds the Crew foundation has.

There is nothing on San Jose about buying new season tickets yet so I am guessing your a season ticket holder that had them renewed? People have been getting notices on auto-renewal and processing in Columbus. So it's not like nothing is happening but you're right it's not as sure as if they processed payment.

This is standard MLS practice. That's why one of the oddest things about this whole deal is that it got leaked in the first place and that Garber has said anything.

On season tickets, has any other team put in the "automatic renewal" clause in their season ticket plans??

That was a private deal between the Hunt family and PSV. The team never went up for public sale and the city was only brought in at the very end once terms were done.

Also UGH with the negativity here.

I think the league is now waiting for PSV to secure a temporary playing facility and start selling tickets. Probably will all be announced on the same day.

In the end, all the talk of "business metrics" was about public funding for a stadium. That's the real goal, and the reason the league backed this play by PSV. Columbus was the sacrificial lamb to show other cities (current and future) that they want big boy sportsball cathedrals for their teams to play in.

    What @JB-CBUS221 said.

In 2013, HSG was looking for additional minority investors, not shopping the team to sell in its entirety. The conventional narrative is that no local investors stepped forward to buy the team when it was for sale in 2013. And that line has been repeated enough that it's now taken for granted that it's accurate. Trouble is, it's not.

Yes, I am a renewing season ticket holder. There is a window for existing season ticket holders to renew before losing their seat locations. I think that window is still open for San Jose. Probably similar for other MLS teams, which is why it is hard to find information for new season tickets for 2019. However, I'd guess most, if not all, of the teams other than Columbus are taking people's money for 2019 renewals.

Today, San Jose started marketing a sampler pack, which includes 2019 season tickets. https://www.sjearthquakes.com/post/2018/08/16/news-quakes-sampler-pack-now-available

San Jose has auto-renewal unless you opt out.
