Seems an odd expectation that the only events Ross should host are ones in which he has a depth of knowledge. I'm sure accounting is fun and all but 70k to watch? Taylor Swift and Beyoncé are going to play there this fall...hopefully he doesn't have to sing and dance in order to host those events.

Article on why the Euro clubs should play meaningful matches in the US: https://www.washingtonpost.com/news...a-foothold-in-the-u-s/?utm_term=.3c1163ab176a Agree to play a league match, or maybe a domestic cup game, at a U.S. venue. The preseason schedule would remain the same, but instead of going home for the start of the season, play the opener here. If the tradition of the opening weekend outweighs such ventures, consider visiting Miami or Los Angeles in the heart of a European winter. Of course, you need the permission of USSF & MLS to play such matches and I think Liga MX will do it before we see it from Europe (other than the French SuperCup, which has been played in the US before).

If European clubs play in the USA during the winter when MLS doesn't play, why would the USSF and MLS mind? The English FA Cup Third Round when clubs from the top two levels enter has 64 clubs and 32 games excluding replays. It's played the first weekend of the year. After the draw, how about taking the 8 games that would get the highest attendance in the USA and playing them in the USA rather than letting one of the clubs host. 4 venues in the USA could get doubleheaders. The away club couldn't host a replay if there was a draw because there wouldn't be an away club, so the games in the USA could go extra time and penalty kicks if necessary. The clubs might not like the additional travel, especially if they had to go to the west coast, but in exchange the clubs would know that they wouldn't have a replay. When a game is almost over and tied, the away club might play defensively to get a replay at home rather than trying to score at the end. A neutral site game that had the winner determined then would not have to worry about that. Hopefully the top clubs would use their best players. I'm a Manchester United fan, and it isn't embarrassing if they come to the USA and lose to Real Madrid in the ICC, but it would be embarrassing if they come to the USA and lose to a club at the bottom of the Premier League or at a lower level.
They probably wouldn't, but they have to ask (and probably give them a cut of the game). The same with any friendlies that happen in the US without the USMNT playing. FIFA rules say the home fed can stop it. Mexico does host the SuperCopa and Campeon de Campeons in the US in the summer, though it's not a huge draw.

A bit on the attendance at this year's ICC: https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...al-champions-cup-attendances?CMP=share_btn_tw Whatever you do, don’t call it pre-season. Meaningless games are now a thing of the past, at least according to the International Champions Cup. Billed as “club football’s premier summer tournament,” this year’s edition was the largest to date, encompassing 18 teams and 27 games played in 22 different cities on three different continents. And yet, the crowd numbers didn’t quite live up to hype. On more than one occasion, swathes of empty seats were visible for games involving some of the world’s biggest clubs. Only 16,000 fans turned up at the 69,000-capacity Heinz Field for a match between Borussia Dortmund and Benfica. A game between Roma and Tottenham in San Diego attracted just 18,800 spectators from a potential capacity of 70,000. The German and English champions, Bayern Munich and Manchester City, sold under 30,000 tickets for their game in Miami. There were still successes. A crowd of 101,245 watched the clash between Manchester United and Liverpool at The Big House in Ann Arbor, while 71,597 supporters caught the game between Real Madrid and Juventus at FedExField in Maryland. But looking at the bigger picture, there is a trend. Fans are turning their back on the ICC. Average attendance at this summer’s tournament were down 18.6% on last year’s, from 48,296 to 39,316. It should be noted that Charlie Stillitano, the larger than life personality at the top of the ICC, says that ticket sales are in fact up this year: “There were 492,000 sold in 2013, 642,000 in 2014, 985,000 for 2015, 964,000 in 2016 and 903,000 for 2017,” he said. “And we think this year we’re on track for 1.1m.” But this is largely down to the fact eight more games were played this summer. Per match, attendances are significantly down.

At the risk of being misinformed, do we make money off all these games? Knowing the way we operate in America, I probably already. know the answer. Which is sad. The league and then this. Making money should be the off shoot of quality, not the reason for doing this.
Yes, the USSF gets a payment for any match played in the US. It's a substantial amount in some years. And SUM is usually the organization that organizes the games. The good thing is it gets money into the soccer ecosystem in the US.
