With the new format, Hapoel Be'er Sheva has to start in Qualifying Round 1, which is the only round they will be seeded in. They got a good draw. In Qualifying Round 1, they will host the second leg against Flora Tallinn of Estonia. In Qualifying Round 2, they will host the second leg against Dinamo Zagreb of Croatia. Dinamo Zagreb is from a better league and gets to start in Qualifying Round 2, but their coefficient ranks 8th among the 10 seeded clubs if all the seeded clubs advance in Qualifying Round 1. Dinamo Zagreb used to have a higher coefficient.

Having 2013-2014 drop out makes Israel fall from 18th to 24th in the country coefficients.

Hapoel Be'er Sheva plays away on Tuesday July 10 at 11:30 A.M. USA Eastern and home on Tuesday July 17 at 1:00 P.M. USA Eastern.

    In the Europa League:

Maccabi Tel Aviv was seeded in Qualifying Round 1 and will host the second leg against Ferencvaros of Hungary. The games will be Thursday July 12 and Thursday July 19, both at 1:00 P.M. USA Eastern. If they reach Qualifying Round 2, which they were seeded in, they will host the first leg against Radnički Niš of Serbia or Gzira United of Malta.

Beitar Jerusalem was seeded in Qualifying Round 1 and will host the second leg against Chikhura Sachkhere of Georgia. The games will be Thursday July 12 at 11:00 A.M. USA Eastern and Thursday July 19 at 1:45 P.M. USA Eastern. If they reach Qualifying Round 2, which they were unseeded in, they have a tough draw against Partizani of Albania or Maribor of Slovenia. Last season Maribor advanced over Hapoel Be'er Sheva on away goals to reach the Champions League Group Stage, where they got 3 draws and 3 losses. Maribor lost 7-0 hosting Liverpool, but did get a 1-1 draw hosting Sevilla, who reached the Quarterfinals by winning at Manchester United in the Round of 16, and lost the Quarterfinal aggregate to Bayern Munich by a close 2-1, including a draw in Munich after Sevilla lost at home.

Hapoel Haifa will start in Qualifying Round 2 and was unseeded. They will host the first leg against Lahti of Finland or FH of Iceland.

    Flora 1-4 Hapoel Be'er Sheva

Hapoel Be'er Sheva won 4-1 in Estonia. They had more shots (13 to 10), shots on target (5 to 2), and 54% of the possession. They scored the first 3 goals. Each team scored 1 penalty kick. Both clubs made 3 substitutions. There were no cards. I think Hapoel Be'er Sheva will need to play better to advance over Dinamo Zagreb.

    Chikhura (Georgia) 0-0 Beitar Jerusalem
Ferencvaros (Hungary) 1-1 Maccabi Tel Aviv

Ferencvaros scored in the 61st minute and Maccabi Tel Aviv equalized in the 90+1st minute. The possession was even in both games, with Beitar Jerusalem having 52% and Maccabi Tel Aviv having 51%. The draws were 0.125 each towards Israel's country coefficient to make 0.500 so far. The countries around Israel got more coefficient points today:

    20. Sweden: 0.500 today, 17.525 sum
    21. Belarus: 0.500 today, 21.375 sum
    22. Azerbaijan: 0.250 today, 17.125 sum
    23. Serbia: 0.625 today, 17.000 sum
    24. Israel: 0.250 today, 16.500 sum
    25. Scotland: 0.500 today, 16.125 sum
    26. Kazakhstan: 0.375 today, 15.875 sum

The sums are for the four complete seasons starting in 2014-2015 and 2018-2019 so far.

Maccabi Tel Aviv 1-0 Ferencvaros (Maccabi Tel Aviv won aggregate 2-1)
Beitar Jerusalem 1-2 Chikhura (Chikhura won aggregate 3-2)

Beitar Jerusalem scored first before losing. I didn't watch the end because they needed 2 more goals to advance. A 2-2 draw would have eliminated them on away goals. Israel got 0.250 today to make 1.000 for 2017-2018.

In Champions league Qualifying Round 2, Hapoel Be'er Sheva will host the second leg against Dinamo Zagreb of Croatia. In Europa League Qualifying Round 2, Maccabi Tel Aviv will host the first leg against Radnički Niš of Serbia. Hapoel Haifa will host the first leg against FH Harnarfjordur of Iceland.

The first leg odds from Intertops have Dinamo Zagreb as small enough favorites that if the oddsmakers made odds for the aggregate winner, they would choose Hapoel Be'er Sheva, who is unseeded. Hapoel Be'er Sheva is a repeat champion, but Dinamo Zagreb dominates the Croatian league which is ranked above the Israeli league. Here are the first leg probabilities:

    Dinamo Zagreb win: 45.5%
    Draw: 30.0%
    Hapoel Be'er Sheva win: 24.2%

Here are the probabilities based on the Europa League first leg odds:

    Hapoel Haifa win: 55.7%
    Draw: 26.9%
    FH Hafnarfjordur win: 17.4%

    Maccabi Tel Aviv win: 65.5%
    Draw: 20.4%
    Radnicki Nis win: 14.1%

Maccabi Tel Aviv has tied for the ninth best coefficient of the 92 clubs in Europa League Qualifying Round 2, while Hapoel Haifa was unseeded. With both clubs at home, I would have expected Maccabi Tel Aviv to be much bigger favorites.

Dinamo Zagreb vs. Hapoel Be'er Sheva is tomorrow at 2:00 P.M. USA Eastern, which is between 22 and 23 hours from now. Hapoel Haifa vs. FH Harnarfjordur is on Thursday at 12:00 P.M. USA Eastern., and Maccabi Tel Aviv vs. Randicki Nis starts 1 hour later.

If Hapoel Be'er Sheva advances to Qualifying Round 3, they will host the second leg against Astana of Kazakhstan or Midtjylland of Denmark. If Hapoel Be'er Sheva does not advance, they will host the first leg of Europa League Qualifying Round 3 for Champions against APOEL Nicosia of Cyprus or Flora Tallinn of Estonia, the latter of whom Hapoel Be'er Sheva just beat in Champions League Qualifying Round 2.

If Maccabi Tel Aviv advances to Europa League Qualifying Round 3, they will host the second leg against Tobol Kostanay of Kazakhstan or Pyunik Yerevan of Armenia. If Hapoel Haifa advances to Europa League Qualifying Round 3, they will host the first leg against Atalanta of Italy or Sarajevo of Bosnia-Herzegovina.

Dinamo Zagreb 5-0 Hapoel Be'er Sheva

The second leg isn't something to look forward to. In Europa League Qualifying Round 3 they will probably face Flora Tallinn again.

    Hapoel Haifa 1-1 FH Hafnarfjordur
Maccabi Tel Aviv 2-0 Radnicki Nis

Maccabi Tel Aviv was scoreless at halftime, and avoided giving up a goal after an ejection for a second yellow in the 79th minute. Israel is down to tied for 25th in the country coefficients.

Hapoel Be'er Sheva 2-2 Dinamo Zagreb (Dinamo Zagreb won aggregate 7-2)

Hapoel Be'er Sheva led 2-0 at halftime. Winning by 1 or 2 wouldn't have made them advance, but it would have improved their coefficient and Israel's coefficient. The draw gave Israel 0.125 to make 17.500, which breaks a tie with Kazakhstan and gives Israel sole possession of 25th. In the only Europa League game today, Tobol of Kazakhstan lost and was eliminated on away goals.

Radnicki Nis 2-2 Maccabi Tel Aviv (Maccabi Tel Aviv won aggregate 4-2)

Maccabi Tel Aviv blew a 2-0 lead, so they got 0.5 coefficient points for them and 0.125 for Israel instead of double that for a win, but advancing with a win and a draw is still good. Maccabi Tel Aviv had 54% of the possession, but Radnicki Nis had more shots on goal, 5 to 4. Radnicki Nis dominated the set pieces with more combined free kicks and corner kicks, 31 to 12. Maccabi Tel Aviv's first goal was an own goal by a Radnicki Nis defender.

FH Hafnarfjordur 0-1 Hapoel Haifa (Hapoel Haifa won aggregate 2-1)

The game was scoreless until Eli Elbaz was subbed on the 64th minute and scored in the 68th minute. Hapoel Haifa needed to score because a 0-0 would have advanced FH Hafnarfjordur on away goals. FH Hafnarfjordur had more shots on goal, 6 to 2.

Europa League Qualifying Round 3 will be played Thursdays August 9 and 16 and will have three Israeli clubs. Now all clubs eliminated from the Champions League qualifying rounds go into the Europa League qualifying round after that. Hapoel Be'er Sheva will host the first leg against APOEL Nicosia of Cyprus. Maccabi Tel Aviv will host the second leg against Pyunik Yerevan of Armenia. Hapoel Haifa will host the first leg against Atalanta of Italy. The draw for the Playoff Round will be on Monday before Qualifying Round 3 starts. Maccabi Tel Aviv will be seeded if they advance and Hapoel Haifa will be unseeded if they advance. The path for Europa League clubs in the Playoff Round who started in the Champions League will have 6 seeded clubs and 10 unseeded clubs in the Playoff Round. After 6 pairings between a seeded club and an unseeded club, there are 2 pairings between unseeded clubs. Hapoel Be'er Sheva will be unseeded if they advance, but they could still play a club worse than them.

Israel is in 25th in the country coefficients with a 17.875 for 2014-2015 through 2018-2019 so far. Israel has 3 clubs left, and no country near Israel has more than 3 left.

If Hapoel Be'er Sheva advances to the Playoff Round, they will host the first leg against the loser of Astana of Kazakhstan vs. Dinamo Zagreb of Croatia in Champions League Qualifying Round 3. Since Dinamo Zagreb beat Hapoel Be'er Sheva 7-2 on aggregate, I'm hoping Dinamo Zagreb advances and Astana goes to the Europa League Playoff Round.

If Maccabi Tel Aviv advances to the Playoff Round, they will host the second leg against the winner of Sarpsborg of Norway vs. HNK Rijeka of Croatia.

If Hapoel Haifa advances to the Playoff Round, they will host the first leg of CSKA Sofia of Bulgaria vs. Copenhagen of Denmark.

Pyunik Yerevan 0-0 Maccabi Tel Aviv

In the only Europa League before Thursday, Maccabi Tel Aviv had 61% of the possession. They had 17 shots, but got only 3 on goal. Pyunik Yerevan had more combined free kicks and corner kicks, 17 to 12, which is 58.6 for them. Maccabi Tel Aviv got more yellow cards, 2 to 1. Even if Maccabi Tel Aviv wins at home next week, they will need to play better to win the Playoff Round. I wouldn't be surprised if none of the Israeli clubs reach the Europa League Group Stage.

    Hapoel Haifa 1-4 Atalanta

Hapoel Haifa took the lead in the 7th minute before giving up an equalizer in the 18th minute and the winning goal in the 20th minute. Atalanta had 64% of the possession, over double the shots (25 to 12), over double the shots on goal (11 to 5) and two yellow cards without any for Hapoel Haifa.

Hapoel Be'er Sheva 2-2 APOEL Nicosia

APOEL led 2-0. Hapoel Be'er Sheva equalized in the 70th minute. Dellatorre, who scored APOEL Nicosia's second goal, got a second card in the 79th minute, but Hapoel Be'er Sheva couldn't score a winner after that. There were 11 yellow cards with APOEL Nicosia having 7. Hapoel Be'er Sheva had 56% of the possession and 72% of the shots, with 18 shots and 7 for APOEL Nicosia. However, shots on goal were 5 each. APOEL Nicosia had small lead in free kicks, 14 to 12, and APOEL Nicosia scored the only attempted penalty for either club. Hapoel Be'er Sheva dominated corner kicks, 13 to 2, giving them more set pieces, 25 to 17.

Here are the start times for the second legs on Thursday 16 August using USA Eastern Time (which is between 5:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M. now):

APOEL Nicosia vs. Hapoel Be'er Sheva at 1:00 P.M.
Maccabi Tel Aviv vs. Pyunik Yerevan at 1:30 P.M.
Atalanta vs. Hapoel Haifa at 2:00 P.M.

Hapoel Be'er Sheva and Maccabi Tel Aviv both played games where the worse club was away and scored first.

APOEL Nicosia of Cyprus 3-1 Hapoel Be'er Sheva (APOEL Nicosia won aggregate 5-3)
Maccabi Tel Aviv 2-1 Pyunik Yerevan of Armenia (Maccabi Tel Aviv won aggregate 2-1)
Atalanta of Italy 2-0 Hapoel Haifa (Atalanta won aggregate 6-1)

Maccabi Tel Aviv had more shots, 29 to 4. In the Playoff Round, they will host the second leg against Sarpsborg 08 of Norway. Sarpsborg 08 played a 1-1 draw at home and advanced by winning 1-0 at Rijeka of Croatia.

Maccabi Tel Aviv 2-1 Sarpsborg 08

Maccabi Tel Aviv led 2-0, which would have advanced them, but Sarpsborg 08 scored a penalty kick in the 81st minute. Israel finished 2018-2019 with a 2.625 country coefficient and a 18.625 five season sum. It's the second time in five seasons that Israel did not have a club reach the Group Stage of the Champions League or Europa League, which also happened in 2014-2015.
