I'm not worried. I love this club and it's be a privilege watching this club win 4 out of the last 5 CL trophies. Of course at some point, you are going to see a let down after a historic run like that. On the transfer stuff 1.) I think people need to get used to the insane transfer market prices, unless somehow this whole nation-state with endless amounts of money team ownership situation gets fixed, which I doubt. That said, outside of Man City and PSG, I'd argue Real Madrid, along with Barca and Man United, are by far the best positioned clubs to operate in this world. All three clubs have a big enough brand and regular revenue to make big moves. I'd be much more concerns for clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, Atleti, and others who don't have near the global brand and revenue (even considering Abramovich's money). Maybe this changes in five or ten years and City and PSG have the global profile that Man United and Real Madrid currently have, but no sense in worrying about that. 2.) I'd love to see Hazard and Courtois come to Madrid. I think $225 for Hazard is a bit too high, even in today's market. If Madrid are able to get him for $150, i think that's reasonable for a guy of his talent. Courtois is a must buy at the price that's being rumored (under $50 million). 3.) I do hope there is eventually talk about a CF signing now that the World Cup is over. I'm not sure who this would be. Kane is far too expensive and I doubt Spurs will negotiate down, especially with a brand new contract extension just signed this summer. Bayern doesn't seem like they will let Lewandowski go, and people have question marks about him. Even somebody like Cavani would be hard since PSG and all. 4.) Neymar and Mbappe are pipedreams and hopefully things move past them fast. I'd like to see Mbappe in a Madrid shirt one day, but I don't really expect it. Neymar seems highly unlikely this summer and I'm not really sure I'd be all that happy with Perez spending $350 for him unless he gets his head on straight this season.
Or maybe the reaction is actually building a different system that is less reliant on one player and more reliant on a world class squad.
Lol they don’t wanna sell Hazard but I don’t think we go for him next year. Not many options on the market regardless.
We have been accumulating cash for years now by sales and titles. We can further increase that amount by selling Bale, Benzema and even Modric at his highest value. I already argued in the tactics thread that if we go by Lopetegui's formations and tactics, what we have and what we need, considering value and age, it could be a smart decision. And then all this I wouldn't mind splashing it on Mbappe. 500 million to PSG and 50 per year for Mbappe, its an offer that can't be refused by either party. We have so many assets to turn into money. Why would we keep them and wait for the right player to become even more expensive in the future? We need to have future Balon Dor candidate playing for our team. Isco is the closest thing we have to that (since Bale can't string an entire season together) but hes not close enough in this moment.
I agree completely. Times have changed for us. We no longer have the pull and the financial muscle we used to have. We can't just pick a player we want. There are not many players on the market that could interest us. It's a crucial time for us. We need to get this right. But the solution is not to pay a world record fee for the best one of the available ones out there that might become Balon d'Or at some point.
If going after the best player available currently (who plays the same position as the giant who left) isn't the solution, what is? We have no idea what happens with Neymar and Mbappe in the near future, we need to reload an aging squad. We have talented youngsters in the squad and on loan, but can they be counted on to run the show? I don't know, like you said it's an important time of transition, but I think we should act as if those two players don't exist.
Not when you're spending a significant fortune and you know you're massively overpaying. We need to be really careful how we take our next step. I don't mind waiting a year to ensure we get the proper player.
Ehhh I feel like we saw Theo at LB with Marcelo in front of him at some points this past season and it was not pretty... Seems like a low sum in this market and given the prospective buyer, honestly.
I don't see it this way at all. We need to recognize that the current market is qualitatively different than at any point prior. When we broke the transfer records for CR7 and Bale, we spent less than 25% of our yearly revenue on a single transfer. Paying something like 300m EUR is insanity, in my view. These players are human beings, not machines. Sinking too much money into any single player is a recipe for disaster. (Figo and ZZ were exceptions to the 25% rule, but Floro arguably saw where revenues were headed and acted accordingly; I don't think anyone believes we're going to double our revenue in the coming few years...)
So it's seeming very likely that we're gonna have to rely on Gareth Bale for some heavy minutes and some higher goalscoring load for next season. At the same time, practically all our CR7 replacements are unavailable. Some people were saying they were excited for life after Ronaldo. Just for the sake of curiosity, what's there to be excited about?
As if we didn't have enough bad news to deal with on a daily basis... And this conundrum with James was of our own making. So we deserve that. Kinda starting to see a recurring theme here...
Hazard for 225ME? Ha. Then I have people who are mad I kept ranting about the absolute total failure last summer truly was.
The more reliable media The Guardian said something worse. From their source at Chelsea, Hazard is not for sale.
They said he will need to hand in a transfer request first. But that still depends how much we offer.
Barcelona have been offered the chance to sign Paul Pogba from Manchester United by Mino Raiola as he is ‘unhappy playing under Mourinho.’ (Source: ESPN) pic.twitter.com/YPrxYkWpje— Transfer News (@TransfersLlVE) July 15, 2018
Nightmare.. what I'm seeing for us is a total nightmare. At this point we're better off just taking an 'L' this season and begging PapaNeymar next spring.
Where would they even get the money to pay for him? Crazy thing is if Zidane got the men he requested this would be the team we'd be fielding.... Cristiano---Mbappe ----Isco/Asensio----- Kro/Pog----Modr/Kov ----Case/Kro/Kova---- If Kova wanted to leave we could sell with confidence. Zidane would never leave that team Cristiano would never leave that team 5 Mids for 3 positions 2 AM playing their actually central AM postion Benzema and Lucas backing up Crissy-Mbappe ******** Sigh
We knew what Ron did every summers, but it's like there was nothing prepared in case he leaves. When it was official that he left, many fans on twitter said that it's sure 1000% that we accepted because we have his replacement ready with an announcement to be made days later at most. Still waiting for that ghost to show up.
