Would Southampton pay £13.5m for a backup keeper?

For the moment, yes. He's much younger than McCarthy, but tha latter must be No. 1 after last season's heroics.

Gunn had more league starts last season than McCarthy has had from this point going back to 2012. He obviously has to compete but I think Gunn is a class above. We shall see.

I like how Gunn is 6-foot-5 and is quite comfortable on the ball. His reflexes are decent as well.

Steven Gerrard has called Jordan Rossiter the stand out performer for Rangers in pre season training. Ovie Ejaria will be one of the players that statement has been made in comparison to.

Of course, Rossiter being Rossiter, he has now picked up an ankle injury.

Ejaria looked pretty handy in his cameo tonight. He was injured for their friendlies, reckon he'll be used a lot. Played in a standard central midfield position, which is good.

Sheyi Ojo scored twice against Tranmere Rovers a couple days ago and helped create a couple more chances in the first half before being substituted. With Shaqiri now having signed for Liverpool, Stoke apparently want Ojo as part of the deal, which would be good.

You can never write Ojo off if he's in the mood to work hard on and off the pitch.

With players like him who are mood orientated they will always frustrate you, because you can see the potential they have, but for one reason or another they lack the inner hunger to make the most of there talent. But if I was a manager I would not waste my time on players like that becsuse if the penny hasn't dropped by now it never will, same goes for Edwards.

The penny seemed to drop for Grealish.

I never thought he was a mood player.

He shouldn't be playing in the Championship. You could make an argument that Mount had a better season in Holland than Justin Kluivert. One is going to play in Serie A and the other is dumped in the Championship. It's complete nonsense.

  12. He was far better than Kluivert this season. Just count the number of appearances in team of the week I posted. These outnumber by a vaste amount (no pun intended) the few Kluivert had.
This move is plain silly. Send him to a good BuLi team.

Can't say I am surprised by the Mount move, because Chelsea don't have a clue about how to develop there youth players once they are over the age of 18.

Extremely disappointed. Supposedly chose this option over a 2-year Werder Bremen loan.

He's name-checked lampard as a player he always liked so I'm sure that had huge pull.

It’s like Patrick Roberts going back to Celtic because he felt he had an emotional bond with the fans. It’s just not the right move development wise. Whatever he does at Derby isn’t going to be enough for him to be given a chance at Chelsea after the season. Seems like a waste of a season.

  19. He might as well stayed at Vitesse and play EL football.

IF he was seriously offered two years at Werder Bremen and turned it down his advisers need replacing. Make the second year conditional on appearances in the first and it would be an excellent move.

His advisers only advise him the they can't force him to do anything this is his decision. But what is wrong with the loan to Derby anyway? A team near the top of the championship with a manager he wants to work with. Out of sight out of mind in Germany where as if he has a good season with Derby he could get an England call. I think it's the right move.

He won't get an England call in the Championship, he may well have done in the Bundesliga

If he starts to tear up the Championship like Sessegnon did, I don't see why he won't get a call up for a UEFA Nations League game, because that is what friendlies are for, and we are not exactly blessed in that position. But if Grealish moves to Spurs and looks good I can see him getting an opportunity first in a Euro qualifying game, because he is playing in the EPL.
