Wasted a couple of good chance vs Xolos in jornada 1
    FT: 0-0.

Dominated ball possession for the entire game , but particularly in the first half. Mora missed a clear chance then. In the 2nd half Tijuana evened the game in terms of control and attacks capped with a clear chance to take the lead. Baca had all the time in the world to beat the goalie in a 1 on 1 near the end but scuffed his shot against the goalie.

His goal scoring capabilities from long distance will improve the squad.

Apertura 2018 will be here before you know it. Let's see how things go with Pelaez. If nothing else, it's amazing we have some players early. Usually we start getting announcements in Week 2 and then we have to wait a few more weeks for their papers to come in, they get in shape, se "acoplan" al nuevo club, etc.

This is interesting. We also bought another young striker in Alvarado. It seems like Pelaez and Caixinha are really trying to get ahead of the competition and lock down Mexican strikers.

miss your write ups, always enjoyed reading them.

By "antics" do you mean the obvious ref help?

Hey I'll take whatever help we can get. On the next game the ref could screw us. Remember the Liquilla game a few years back against Pumas where there was a ball that clearly went past the back line yet nobody saw it and Pumas scored off of that play and Cruz Azul was eliminated ? Hopefully with VAR these days they could reverse obviously bad calls like that.

Speaking of VAR, I don't like the way they are implementing it. I don't know how much flexibility each Federation has in terms of how it's used. But basically, I don't like the fact that the ref seems to pick and choose when to consult the replays. I would do something more like what the NFL does - give each coach maybe two challenges per half and they can request the ref consult VAR. If they lose the challenge maybe take away a substitution. Basically something to prevent frivolous use of VAR challenges.

And to answer your question, the only thing I meant by 'antics' is that they are playing surprisingly well these days. Something I hadn't seen consistently since Markarian was in charge. Maybe this will continue with Caixinha. Hopefully they can pull it off tonight. It's going to be tough.

I was under the assumption that var is only used for very specific plays (goals) or a red card situations?

Guys in the booth tell the ref to review said play because he might of made a wrong call but the ref doesn't have to review the call if he doesn't want to? it's the ref decision to view the play and make the final decision. Even if the var people are telling him he's wrong. He can still ignore it

Taking away subs seems to harsh lol

Sad for Martin Zuniga. He was on the squad that won in 2013. Would have been quite a story for him to be champion tonight with the other team.

What a shame he couldn't break through for Cruz Azul this season.

See that's the thing. Does he 'have' to do the review ? I have no idea. Those are the kind of things that are not clear. There have been occasions when a call is made, the offended team is going bonkers on the sidelines because they think they got screwed and nothing happens. Then a few minutes later, the ref will do a review to check on something for the other team. It may be perfectly OK in the head of the Ref but to us the viewers and the teams themselves it seems arbitrary.

And yeah absolutely, taking subs away is harsh but if you don't have harsh punishments, coaches will do what they do with their third substitutions all the time - they sub in the 91st minute to waste time. So they'll call for reviews over any dumb thing in the 91st minute to waste time.

Anyway, have a fantastic Christmas and a great 2019 ! I'm still in mourning over that last game. Don't know what the heck happened to the team but that was one of the worst performances under Caixinha. Both games were garbage offensively. I can see the strategy of focusing on defending but you set yourself up for needing to have a perfect game and hope for an opposition mistake. And of course, not only did that not happen, you make a stupid mistake and gift the opposition the goal that killed you.

But I can't complain. I did not expect them to be this dominant so soon into the Caixinha reign. I would have been happy with a Liguilla appearance after all the crappy seasons we've had recently. Overall, I'm good with the team we have now and the season was very entertaining. Pelaez has done a fantastic job of putting this team together. Can't wait for 2019. I may actually take a trip down south for a game next year. Haven't been to the Azteca in quite a while so I think I'm due for a road trip.
