Valve has the luxury that they don't have to release games to stay afloat; Steam rakes in more than enough money for Valve to make a hefty profit, so they can just release whatever they want whenever they want to. If I had to guess, Half-Life 3 has been in "development" since HL2: Episode 2 was released. Maybe not as actively as they might have been years ago, but they probably have people still thinking about it. When or if some designer comes up with an idea that's just too good to pass up, then they'll make the game. I imagine Portal 3 is probably in the same boat.
"Phoenix Point" is the one 2018 release I am truly looking forward to. I'm guessing if you loved XCOM, this is a must.
Haven't heard of that, I'll check it out. I've been playing the new BATTLETECH this week. It's in the same vain as an XCOM game in playstyle. Not quite as good, but I'm enjoying it. Missions take a long time, though.
Julian Gollop is the lead designer on "Phoenix Point" and he is the man who originally created the "XCOM" series.
Unsurprising but confirmation that CD Projekt Red will be showing an RPG at E3. 99.9% chance it's Cyberpunk 2077 https://mp1630k065.mapyourshow.com/7_0/exhibitor/exhibitor-details.cfm?ExhID=cMVYnmG6#
I wonder how Rockstar/2K will implement all those GTA V type microtransactions into Read Dead Redemption II because we know they will try to replicate the financial success. Will there even be a significant single player story campaign or is that carved out / reduced to a barebone campaign to shift focus to the multiplayer? The answer to those questions will affect my enthusiasm for the game in a big way.
Finished my playthrough of Mass Effect I-III. None of these games was perfect, but I still think each one had some absolutely amazing moments that few other games ever deliver. I also think ME2 was the best of the triology. It is a pity that the rushed development of Mass Effect 3 shows at several key places. This game could have been an undisputed masterpiece had EA given Bioware the usual 3-4 years instead of just 2.
GTA V still had a fantastic single player mode. It made a billion dollars in 24 hours and scored a 97 on metacritic. Keep in mind all that was without GTA:Online which didn't launch until a few weeks after the game out. There's still money to be made from a good single player game, and I'd be stunned if RDR2 is anything less than fantastic. I do worry about the online, but I don't really play Rockstar games for their MP, so I don't care that much.
That's the hope, because I also only care about the SP, but we have to keep in mind that we're a minority. Only a single digit percentage even ever finish most SP campaigns according to many developers. Now that 2k/Rockstar have drunk deep from the microtransaction well with GTA (probably the most profitable game mode of all time), it is very probable that they will focus on what is making them the most money. I expect this to take a toll, how high of a toll remains to be seen. Perhaps Rockstar is that massive of a studio that the SP mode won't even take a hit, but when I look at all that microtransaction and pay2win bullshit on the AAA market then I'm not very hopeful.
I bet it will be epic and have good online content too Rockstar always come through, gta 5 was a masterpiece just as a solo game
There's gonna be a new Splinter Cell game? Really? Sam Fisher was by far my all time favourite video game character. Absolutely loved the Splinter Cell games. Hope the new one doesn't suck but I'm glad they're making one in the first place and the return of Michael Ironside as the voice actor makes me hopeful it's gonna be good.
Splatoon 2 is a very fun multiplayer game. Haven't touched the single player yet but sunk a whole bunch of time into the mp and having a blast.
Rage 2 announced today. I'm not sure who asked for it, but there you go. Here's a really cringy live action teaser, with a game play trailer coming tomorrow
Imo the setting was very interesting. Basically Borderlands without the comics graphic. On the back of Doom's success it seems ID software wants to turn the IP into a success. Looking forward to it. Doom 2016 was a blast. Unless of course this was outsourced to some other random studio. Then I'm not interested at all.
I think the Borderlands comparison is spot on, but I think it lacked the charm or interesting characters of The Borderlands Series. The gun play was solid though, and it was gorgeous for when it came out. It was by no means a bad game, just kind of a forgettable one. Nothing wrong with giving a series a second chance though. Nobody asked for a Prey follow up and that ended up being fantastic. This won't be a day one buy for me, but I'll be interested when the reviews start posting. I think this trailer was lame, but I'm excited to see gameplay tomorrow. Also I believe ID is working with Avalanche, the developers of Just Cause and Mad Max
I actually think without Borderlands, Rage may have gotten a better reception. Rage looked good and the glave was a pretty cool weapon but by the time he came out Borderlands had given players a waste land world to traverse in, a ton of odd weapons and; IMO, the ability to play with friends or random people. I think the solo nature of it hurt the most since it was so similar to Borderlands and word of Borderlands 2 was already being talked about.
Whew. Not being a fan of zombie mode at all that Blops IIII reveal was up there with MS Xbox one reveal. Instead of tv, tv, tv, it was, zombies, zombies, zombies, and more zombies. No single player campaign, zombies, traditional multiplayer, lots of more zombies, and some unknown BR mode.
I'm guessing you're talking about Call of Duty? All I ever cared about in their franchise was the Single Player campaigns and since they seem to be cutting that out of the next one there's probably no point for me to even inform myself about the game any further.
The console video game world is changing for the better. New Nintendo ad featuring Minecraft cross-play between Switch and Xbox.
Xbox Live having a huge July sale on games, picked up Agents of Mayhem for $7.50, and the new Wolfenstein and Doom Bundle for $24.00.
