So -- same guy as Elias Sommer? http://forums.bigsoccer.com/threads/elias-sommer-at-wolfsburg.2023625/
Like I said in the other thread, I think they are the same player and Wolfsburg just made a mistake with the name "Sommer" but I'm not sure.
Seems he may have a younger brother with the Wolfsburg U-12's https://www.vfl-wolfsburg.de/de/inf...523searchAnc%23searchAnc#cntAnc#cntAnc#cntAnc
He's listed with Wolfsburg U-16 for 2016-17. I am 90% sure "Elias Sommer" is simply a mistake and his real name is "Elias Thomas", because they updated the 2015-2016 U-15 page to say Elias Thomas instead (where it previously said Elias Sommer), still listed with dual GER/USA nationality.
He's moved up to the Wolfsburg U17s (B-Juniors) and scored in a draw with Hannover. https://www.vfl-wolfsburg.de/info/a...9-beendet-punktspiele-ungeschlagen-46113.html
Looks like that was a friendly. I don't think he's played in any official U17 games, though it's reasonable to guess that they are giving him a taste of the level he will play at next season.
fupa concurs: http://www.fupa.net/spieler/elias-thomas-1080981.html U17s = VfL Wolfsburg B-Jun.BL Nord/Nordost U16s = VfL Wolfsburg II B-Jun.RL Nord
Nice. I always forget about FuPa (which sounds like a second division Finnish club, btw). U16 stats are otherwise very hard to come by. And they have second-tier U19 leagues, too! (I looked up Kevin Lankford on a whim, as Heidenheim's U19 team was relegated last year.)
We also have 8th-tier U19 leagues (that's the lowest in Lower Saxony, some states might have more - although we're one of the largest states, so probably not many if at all). www.fussball.de hast the official stats for every official soccer game in Germany (men, women, youth) - it's an official DFB site where all match reports of every game are uploaded.
Elias started on the bench as Wolfsburg U17 visited M'Gladbach U17 and won 1 - 2 in B-Junior Bundesliga (Nord/Nordost)
seems like he left Wolfsburg U17 and is joining relegated from A-Nord/Nordost Eintracht Braunschweig U19. So he won't be playing at the highest level. A terrible year for Braunschweig as both the senior team and the U19 got relegated, seniors are now a 3rd Liga team.
Elias Thomas at EB is interesting since Elias's German Grandfather Franz Merkhoffer played at EB from 1968-1984. His American Dad Jacob Thomas played at EB from 1999-2004. during his time at EB, Thomas married Merkhoffer's daughter and Elias is born in 2001. Now present day, Elias has joined the family club EB.
according to fupa, he's only played 5 games, totaling 337 min all season. And to top it all the EB 1st team could be headed for relegation to RL.
I totally forgot all of this -- just went back to read old Jacob Thomas threads to bring back some memories. He had a reputation as a rugged, fast, attacker with comparatively modest skills. (Apparently he has a German dad himself.) What a cool and random YA detail.
if you want more details his German granddad Merkhoffer is in the top 50 all time 1BL appearances and he's also EB's all time capped player too.

Ever since I saw Joey’s tweet about this I’ve thought it was super bizarre. Maybe it’s an attempt to get him on the radar of college teams?
This (German) story about this father indicates that he's supposed to be playing for USF (San Francisco) this fall. https://regionalsport.de/gestern-ei...homas-der-texanische-vollsprinter-1589940002/
