Ok ok. Yes Algeria 1982, damn. No words. So Cameroon 1982 was better than Cameroon 1990 ? "play our own game" you mean you have coaches from Africa then? But if you only have 2 teams, its a big risk the two best teams dont qualify.
Oh and no matter what, I am still massively enjoying this WC and will still enjoy it after all the African teams have been sent home.
Yea 2010 Nigera got Lagerbäck from Sweden, Ivory Coast too (Sven Göran Eriksson) I dont remember why Nigeria sacked Amodu?
I belive Cameroon 82 was better, but that is subjective. To remove the risk of the two best teams not qualifying, we should have a league system or a variant of it. Something like what they have in CONMEBOL.
of course, it's all about fun. My shitty country Romania hasn't qualified but that doesn't mean I'm not enjoying watching football of the highest quality. And believe me, I did find a few teams that I can root for (Iceland, Australia, Egypt)
Too soon. Group A and group H are guaranteed at least one non UEFA team to advance. In addition to Mexico, Argentina and Brazil are still well positioned to advance. And there are possibilities for others. Iran has their fate in their hands. And I'm not ready to write off group group C ... both Peru and Australia are capable of getting points in their next match. Even Nigeria could very realistically get 3 points against Iceland while Argentina beats Croatia, which would open that group up.
Colombia Senegal Mexico Brazil Uruguay Argentina I think There will be 10 uefa nations minimum in round 16 and 6 non uefa squads maximum But this might even go to 11-5 or 12-4. Only Mexico made a big step in group F about eliminating an european team.
4 years ago i warned them that there were plenty of squads in europe that were improving and that could achieve in Russia 2018 what chile and colombia did in 2014 in Brazil. Now just wait and witness it.
would be better if instead of having 20 teams in 5 diferent group for the last stage of qualifiers, to have an extra playoff stage leading to the final qualification groups, so that at the end you get at most 12 teams, and have them separated in 2 groups of 5-6 teams in each, where the 2 best from each group qualifies, and have a final playoff between the 3rds of each group for the last spot (similar to asian qualifiers, although for asians the playoff between 3rds, is for knowing the team that will afterwards take part in the interconfed playoff). For the case of Africa, given the amount of teams involved, to have a system similar to the one of Conmebol, would be almost impossible to implement, as the amount of match dates required would be real huge.
They know who they are now they just have tears to cry in front of what is happening some even want to stop watching ))
Come on, dude, even though some people here, myself included, sometimes make gentle fun of your Africa bias, that doesn't mean that your opinions are not welcome. To the contrary, you are a knowledgeable poster, and losing you so quickly would be a loss to these boards. At least wait until the group round is over before storming out! And you can still have the last laugh tomorrow with Senegal (hopefully not, though).
That is true. That is why I said we could use a variant. Somehow get it down to 8 or 10 final teams, maybe use the quarter finalists of the last African Cup to form one qualifying group in league format. Top 5 qualify.
Some people would agree with you. They were not only very skilled, but physically very powerful, however IMO Cameroon 1982 had more natural footballers.
England fully deserved the win. Should have been alot more. The first half was one of the best attacking displays seen at the world cup so far..just couldnt finish..second half we lost momentum. Tunisia were tertible in terms of play acting..diving, time wasting and roughhousing kane The ref was a disgrace. Tunisian defenders were all over kane.
Now this is the truth: The official version behind Amodu being sacked in 2002 was... because he finished 3rd at the African Cup of Nations (losing in extra time in the semis to Senegal, who made the World Cup 1/4 final a few months later). The official version behind Amodu being sacked in 2010 was... because he finished 3rd at the African Cup of Nations (losing in the semis to Ghana, who made the World Cup 1/4 final a few months later). But in reality the Nigerian FA just thought he was inferior to foreign coaches. Hence he qualified Nigeria twice to the World Cup and was unceremoniously sacked months before the World Cup. This is how Africa's inferiority complex is internalized.
Every foreign coach hired was an opportunity to skim and launder money for the crooks in the former NFF. The NFF of today has been much cleaned up from that, but they have to get over their mentality of not respecting local Nigerian coaches. We had a local coach, Keshi in the last WC and we played much better football. We sure as hell were not afraid to attack. That is the Nigerian way. All out attack. This coach is too cautious and gives teams too much respect.
Africa generally in decline, a disastrous start. Fully deserved win for England against Tunisia's annoying defense, yes solid defensively but I find it annoying to watch, gave away possession and offered little going forward. Morocco a massive disappoint technically better than Tunisia but they had the easiest game and lost it, also faded badly in the second half. Nigeria played his part too in one of their worst performances in ages, definitely not the Nigeria we know. And Egypt complete the list, to their credit they performed well and very convincing tactically playing with two holding midfielders that didn't allowed Uruguay to play their game but still ended up on the losing side. Now let's wait for Senegal tomorrow.
It must be underlined that Egypt had to contend without their talismanic player. They were immensely unlucky. Also Morocco - was simply unlucky, albeit not enough bite in attack.
