First of all my pacemaker almost went offline that was a total shock. After reading the press release I am drawn to "Zidane said he no longer had a clear idea of how he could manage the team to more success next season, hence the decision to step aside and allow a change to be made." The only things he hasn't done successfully in his career was invade Russia in the winter and cure cancer. I wonder if it will ever dawn on Ben that he never had even a remote idea how to manage the team to more success next or any season. Amazing how different people hold themselves to the pursuit of excellence
I think it would take only one practice session with DC United for Zidane to develop "a clear idea of how to manage the team to more success next season." If he's looking for a challenge, it's right here.
It's straight out of the Jose Mourinho playbook. Never stay more than three years with any one team and try to get out when you're on top so you can cash in on your prior success with your next team. The most successful American coach to base his career on this methodology is Larry Brown (albeit he wasn't as successful in basketball as Mourinho is in soccer)..
Conversely, it can be looked at as a chicken-shit way to avoid criticism if you can't keep to the same level for yet another year if your fragile ego can't handle it He's gotta be better than Chad Ashton, right?
I wouldn't compare Mourinho to Zidane beyond them having human DNA, but I see your point. Where he ends up doing what he decides will tell the story
I doubt any reasonable individual would accuse ZZ of being a chickenshit, but your personal standards may be higher than his, But clearly I'm a fan of his.
I wasn't saying I felt that way necessarily - just that yours seemed an optimistic (and maybe unfair dig at Olsen) take You may see a guy with integrity, I may see a quitter The only time I've ever had to form any opinion of Zidane was that time when he stupidly head-butted a guy in a WC game.
If you think about it, coaching a great team like Real Madrid is a tough task, but nothing compared building a team in shambles where Olsen coaches, Kasper manages, and there’s no actual front office staff.
I remember a story that when Gallardo first arrived the team-provided team meals were basically junk food. Gallardo started paying for heathier team meals out of his pocket.
Gallardo would've been great had he not been injured so quickly. That was a decent shot by the FO for an impact player (and decent human being). james
This is the second game in a row we've dropped points and both games were winnable. The tactics were poor and the subs were questionable (when actually used). He needs to go. Make Ashton head coach so that we can continue to suck so that he gets fired at the end of the season. That would allow for a fresh start next season. There are no arguments for keeping him. james
Remember when he was the "next big thing" after winning a championship at RSL? One year at NYCFC, parts of 3 seasons in Orlando. Losing records in both places. I think it's time for the analyst headphones Jason.
Ashton has an outstanding record as head coach, the many times Ben's been suspended for questioning the referee's parentage. I'm not sure he's ever lost. Don't shoot the messenger!
Coupled with the decision to cede possession, bunker & play the high line the entire second half. Subbing out Acosta didn't matter much so long as United wasn't sending any players forward to support counter-attacks.
I'm more of a proximate cause kinda guy. Why was our lone forward left trying to mark both Giovinco and Hagglund at the back post on the last goal?
