I'm loving this result. Germany beating everyone up is boring to me. Them being vulnerable makes the tournament more interesting. Now, I can go back to hating Mexico.
This is an issue I have with the World Cup in general. Every year, I kind of expect Brazil to paste 10 on some nobody, show us the flair, the magic, and, they don’t. Same with Germany, Spain, Italy, Argentina, the World powers. I don’t think Mexico is that good, but they brought heart, played hard, and won with one goal. Germany looked disinterested, they still go through on two wins against the weak sisters. And there we are.
I can relate to that. However, being a straight guy, my interest is somewhat different, of course. But the feeling is very similar. Heck, someone asked me at our local stamp show* yesterday if I knew who Germany was playing today. I didn't. If that doesn't say it all.... And I was exhibiting a topical exhibit on German soccer. *BTW the Post Office person who ran the USPS store was from the Green Post Office.
I'm not sure what the complaint is. That the rest of the field is good enough that Brazil can't run up the score on weaklings? And as for Germany -- I wouldn't sleep on Sweden. If Germany doesn't come up with a win against them, they're in danger of not advancing. And even then -- I expect all three to beat South Korea, and there's a real chance of a triangle of defeat. Germany loses to Mexico, Mexico loses to Sweden, Sweden loses to Germany -- and it comes down to goals.
I guess the complaint is, I want to see the best play their best, throughout the tournament. They often disappoint, take games off, look unready or uninterested.
*Paid with funds made off of fake accounts. In other news, Markus keeps asking "are we winning" type questions as we watch the WC. I keep repeating: We are watching for the love of the game. US is not playing. We did not make the WC.
Paging @Bill Archer Mexico facing punishment for anti-gay chants at WC FIFA (waking up from its nap under piles of cash): “oh... right.... hey, cut that out. We told you four years ago to stop. But now... now we mean it...”
But its not an anti gay slur, you ignorant racist. Its just a charming local radition and it sort of means "bud" or "guy". Which you'd know f you werent such a hate filled bag of haterade, you hateful hater. Fortunately, the FMF is rolling in SUM money so they'll just keep writing those 30k checks and laughing themselves silly. FIFA doesnt need to engage in thei kabuki theater whereby they send "monitors" to report on whether Mexico fans employ this chant. Heres a hint fellas: they did, they will, theyre not going to stop and you'r not going to do a damn thing about it.
I cant help but feel the US could do well at this World Cup. Nobody looks invincible...yet. ******** you Michael Bradley. ******** you Jozy Altidore. ******** you Sunil Gulati.
Um... no. Not with Bruce and the 2014 team out there we wouldn't. If Bruce were still around, I have no doubt we'd still be seeing the same old players. No Miazga. No McKennie. No Adams. No Steffen. No Weah.
If we had qualified, I doubt Bruce would be the coach. Problem is—what players would be selected, since Bruce didn’t foster along any new talent.
Same old same old probably, since "young" in all US sports means early-mid 20s, instead of 18, 19, or 20 like everwhere else. I mean, how long was Pulisic making an impact with Dortmund before he got called up? McKennie only got a call-up once we were eliminated. Jona Gonzalez was starting regularly for one of the best teams in Mexico for a year and still wasn't called-up, and he switched to Mexico.
Jack Edwards at kickoff: "DC in their home blacks going right to left. Columbus in their road whites going left to right. The game is on."

Just a quick note: World Cup legend Walter Bahr passed away yesterday. He was Penn State's coach when I was in school, so I used to see him often at games (I was there when his son Matt played sweeper (as well as kicked for the football team). He was the US captain for many years and of course set up the winning goal vs England https://www.nytimes.com/2018/06/18/...-star-of-a-world-cup-upset-is-dead-at-91.html
If it goes into detail on how Harkes screwed Wynalda's wife, then wrote some fake crock of crap book where he denied it and blamed Sampson for everything... then yes I want to listen.
