I didn't get to watch the game, but how much of it was on the defense and how much was on the GK herself? ORL converted more than half of the their SOG, while at the other end of the field CHI actually had more SOG than ORL did with less than half making it in!

I can't blame Naeher for any of the goals. Our defense let Orlando have way too many open shots. Credit must be given to Orlando for some perfect passes and shots. The first Orlando goal was off a deflection by a red stars defender.

    Naeher made zero mistakes.
#1 (Hill) was deflected(?) behind her, when Hill had the entire mouth open.
#2 (Morgan's header), #3 (Leroux's header), and #5 (Weatherholt's volley) were 1-v-0 and struck perfectly to a post. No GK can prepare to dive both ways and make it all the way to a post.
#4 (Leroux's rising shot) was totally unsaveable.

Yes, looking at highlights, it looked like it was mostly Chicago's defense that sucked, and not the GK (who even made some brilliant saves): the first goal in particular was unexcusable, Hill was given that ball on a plate.

As I said elsewhere (Week 9 thread), Nagasato is looking like the perfect partner to set up Kerr: not only she had both assists, but, if you look at highlights, she had at least two other wonderful through balls for Kerr in the course of the game: her passes are accurate and use to cut through defense-lines. I'd say that Dames should always start her, if he wants Kerr to have a significant number of chances per game. Now, I admit that, if Nagasato is the best girl around for that last pass, she's not the most prolific scorer as of late (she was Frauen-Bundesliga top-scorer in the past and she's second to Sawa only in Nadeshiko Japan NT all-time scorers, but in this part of her career she's playing a different role and goals aren't her priority right now): so I agree that, apart from Kerr/Nagasato, another player should step up and score goals when needed.

By the way, you can see Kerr's current frustrated state of mind in the sequence of first goal: after that, she was keeping shaking her head and she looked more disgruntled by the fact that she had missed the initial 1-vs-1 chance vs. Harris than happy for the goal.

Just my observations in being at this overall disappointing game. Kerr - wow! Nagasato - smile! We definitely are missing Casey Short! She was practicing a bit yesterday with the team - encouraging! Rosie White made her debut (later in the game) and looks talented and dangerous. DiBernardo is so missed in the midfield. Ertz is getting back but still not her young self out there. Wondering why not Nikki Stanton nor Sarah Gorden started. Also, hurry back, Steph McCaffrey (she has been plagued with illness/injuries and I so want her to become a bigger part of CRS)! Chicago has been cursed by a poor schedule combined with key injuries (I challenge any other team to claim they have/had more key injuries). Once we gel, hope it will not be too late for 2018 season. :cautious::unsure:

This makes me think about the fact that, if the whole defense-line of Chicago looked awful yesterday, Samanta Johnson in particular looked to me like a disaster on legs. Is she the one who would be supposed to be Short's replacement? :cautious::coffee:

Samantha Johnson is normally solid and is a starter in defense. When all are healthy, it is Gilliland and Short on the outside and Johnson and Naughton inside. Gorden has stepped in for Short and has been impressive. Comeau started and not Gorden, yesterday (me thinks not ideal - but what do I know?!) , and Comeau normally is a reliable player (Gorden is quicker). I just think it has to do with the injuries that we have not had a set starting line-up. :(

My prediction, Red Stars miss the playoffs and Dames either let go or reassigned within the organization.

Well, I hate to say that the prediction sounds very reasonable right now : Red Stars are currently 6th, despite having played one or two games more than the teams in top 4, so they could be behind by even more than the mere three points that right now separate them from a play-offs' spot. Basically, they need a long and convincing winning-streak to rebound at 4th place (or more).

I wouldn't be surprised if the Red Stars miss the playoffs this year, but unless there are signs building up that the coach is the problem, I'd be surprised if Dames get relegated to the WPSL team or whatever. It's very difficult to keep any team in a parity-driven league perform at a high level for an extended period of time, and the Red Stars already have the longest active playoff streak. One year of mediocre results might just be expected... The question is what the outlook is going forward.

Can't blame any goal on Naeher, she was left out to dry. The defense stunk it up.
In the Club Section were are constantly asking each other what Sam Johnson is doing.
Naughton is playing good but her and Johnson just don't jell and it's not Naughton.

The drum beats for his dismissal are already being heard in the Season Ticket Holders sections. Whether Arnim will do it, I doubt it.

Well, it least it looks like I wasn't seeing double, and other people basically saw the same things that I did. :coffee:

Does anyone know the status of Casey Short? I know she has been injured, just did not think it would take this long to recover, did she have surgery? Thank you in advance.

Let's try this: Fanaddict, thanks for adding link - I just cut and pasted contents (will I get a spanking for doing so :cautious:)?
Red Stars embrace Australian sensation Samantha Kerr — but 'Chicago doesn’t really know she’s here yet'

It takes about 19 hours to fly from Australia to Chicago — but nothing feels longer than those first few fidgety moments for Red Stars striker Samantha Kerr.

“For takeoffs, I am in the brace position, there’s sweating and moving around,’’ said Kerr, a member of the Australian national team and reigning National Women’s Soccer League MVP. “People around me get scared because I get so scared. I’m not a good flyer.’’

But once on terra firma, Kerr sure can stick a landing. Kerr’s trademark backflip, which includes bounding head-over-heels into the air after a cartwheel, has been part of her post-goal routine since the Aussie sensation was 10.

Has the flamboyant display ever rubbed an opponent the wrong way?

Becky Sauerbrunn, considered the game’s best defender. Kerr’s impact on the sport was recognized in March when Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull honored her as the 2018 Young Australian of the Year in a ceremony at Parliament House in Canberra, Australia

    AFL mania.

“It was very intense because when I was a kid my brother couldn’t go anywhere in Perth as a pro athlete,’’ Kerr said. “It was all I knew, so it was what I wanted.’’

One day after a particularly rugged AFL game when Kerr was 12 and playing in games against boys, she came home with a bloody lip and black eye. Her parents had seen enough. Aussie football was out, soccer was in.

“It was really hard at the time and I remember the tantrums I threw to not to go play soccer, which was thought to be a wimpy sport at home,’’ said Kerr, who adjusted quickly enough to be selected for the Australian national soccer team at 15. “It wasn’t my choice. I still love the grit of (Australian football). I still watch it over here. If there was a pathway for women to play in the AFL ... 100 percent I would have stayed in it.’’

Not that Kerr regrets anything about playing in the NWSL, which she calls “the best league in the world.’’ The Red Stars, in their 10th year of existence, hope to make the playoffs for a record fourth straight season and plan on giving Kerr plenty to consider when the inevitable international offers come. The maximum NWSL salary is $44,000, much less than what teams in Europe can pay Kerr, whose contract with the Red Stars runs through next year.

“The world is knocking on Sam’s door and I wouldn’t block her from an incredible opportunity but our job is to convince her she’s in one of the great world cities, around the best caliber of players, in a place she can become part of the fabric of a great sports city,’’ Whisler said.

Whisler’s soccer pitch has taken root.

“At some point, I do want to experience other things but if I left right now I’d be thinking ‘What if?’ and I don’t really want to leave what I believe is the best league in the world when I’m enjoying myself and playing good football — just for money,’’ Kerr said. “America has given me so much. And I have more to give. I haven’t accomplished what I want yet in this league.’’

As the Aussie’s career takes off, only Kerr’s opponents feel antsy, bracing themselves for the worst.

It's good to see Kerr & Nagasato hitting it off. If that continues, Chicago will be in a good place. There hasn't been a single match so far where they've both played the majority of the match and Chicago hasn't scored. That said, the team has yet to beat anyone above them in the table, even when Kerr & Nagasato play the majority of a match. That strike partnership needs to grow some - and the defense needs to tighten up - if Chicago wants to climb any more.

nice little tidbit: CRS gained three points on Portland, two points on Orlando, Seattle and Houston from this weekend/week! I realize most of them have games in hand vs. CRS but nice momentum/incentive going into the break, for CRS players and fans! :D:cool::p:thumbsup: NCC are on another planet so not mentioning them in the convo
