You're absolutely correct with that. I was thinking in terms of the players and thus also player selection in games, where MLB teams regularly exhert a significant influence. Most of the minor league affiliates don't market themselves on a successful team, rather on a nice family day out in the summer. I would still put them much closer to MLS2 teams than independent lower division teams, and probably closer to MLS2 than MLS affiliated teams in USL.
I've often wondered what effect developmental leagues (or teams, in the case of MLS2) have on trying to cultivate coaches, as well. It must be enormously frustrating to coach in MiLB or NBA G-League, given that your goal of winning and putting a good product on the field/court (which, in turn, puts butts in seats) and preparing for coaching at a higher level is completely upended by a constantly shifting roster and totally different sets of expectations for the team from the front office. In the case of MiLB, this is even more at odds, since, as pointed out, the teams are independently owned, so the owners are going to want something that draws crowds: family friendly events are fine, but they're not going to cultivate recidivism like a winning product will.
I don't think there's a conflict between what he said and your comment. If a top-flight team is relegated to Liga B then their reserve team would still be in the lower divisions but drop a level. U.S. Soccer has increased the levels of travel reimbursement and the size of the traveling party eligible for reimbursement for all rounds of the competition (now up to 24 people and $12,000 from the First Round to the Semifinal Round, up to 30 people and $25,000 for the Final). This would have fully funded Minnesota City's travel expenses. Also The prize fund has been increased, with the winners of the tournament receiving $300,000 (up from $250,000). The losing finalists will receive $100,000 (up from $60,000), while the team that advances the furthest from every lower division gets $25,000 (up from $15,000). The price of Championship play-off promotion: The richest game in football By Gerard Brand and PA Sport Last Updated: 28/05/16 4:07pm[/QUOTE] Congratulations to Shahid Khan who has used his $5 billion dollar fortune to both fund Fulham to promotion and buy Wembley Stadium, home of the playoff and FA Cup finals, which opens up the possibility of him relocating his NFL team to London. Fulham's previous owner cleared their $200 million debt by converting their loans to equity, which was then acquired by Khan for $300 million. Yet again you label anyone who questions the viability of pro/rel, when several of "us" have stated that we are not against pro/rel but believe is would not work and in fact may cause catastrophic damage in the current US environment. The reason your posts are rebutted again is that you continue to make wild and inaccurate claims. The majority of US fans supporting pro/rel doesn't mean that they support pro/rel in today's environment. 52% of MLS players say they support pro/rel but only 3% think it's a priority. The majority of soccer fans in the US support Liga MX. I don't expect that to change just because Liga MX is now a closed league. The next best supported league is the Champions League followed by the Premier League then La Liga. But how many of those fans could name the teams that were relegated from those leagues without looking them up? I don't think I've ever seen fans walking around New York City wearing Swansea or West Brom shirts. They support teams that will never face relegation. And why, I'd suggest that it has more to do with glamour and quality of play than pro/rel. I'm sure that if pro/rel were introduced tomorrow they'd be delighted, then go back to watching the top European leagues on TV. Commisso's "big plan" involves the potential to invest $500 million, or 1/40th of Ronaldo's salary. We were actually having a civilized discussion before you returned throwing around your anger, vitriol, he said/she said accusations, wild inaccuracies and headlines you quote without actually reading the stories. I support pro/rel, I hope it happens one day but I can't see it happening without a MLS 2. Parma have gone bankrupt twice in the last 15 years. I'm sure their Chinese majority owner won't let this happen again. And yes, most fans don't abandon their teams they have supported their whole lives just because of financial difficulties.
http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...Premier-League-parachute-payments-review.html Something to keep in mind. Currently teams relegated from the EPL, receive parachute payments for 3 seasons that are greater than the amount that MLS receives for its' US TV rights. Figuring out how much parachute payments would be, and more importantly how/who is going to fund that money will be a crucial component to figure out if Pro/Rel is to ever be implemented in the U.S.
Mmmm, still misreading the text in the posts to have the chance for a rant. Nice. Not sure if it's ignorance or deliberate. But either way it's not successful.
The minimum salary in D1 baseball is $545,000. That's quite an entry barrier for a Triple AAA or independent team.
I want to point out, again, that there was in fact a pro/rel sandbox thread in MLS: YBTD that was dedicated to brainstorming the "how" of getting pro/rel to work in the US context, taking into account the specific challenges we have in this country. A bunch of people proposed ideas, and there was some criticism of specific mechanisms, but there were no anti-pro/rel comments whatsoever. Every single person who posted in it was one of the so-called "anti-pro/rel zealots" from this thread. Telling, isn't it?
I mean, I was trying to express the inaccuracy of his math, I wasn't saying it was right, either: but 840,000,000 is a lot closer than 20,000,000,000!
One reason is probably that the" anti pro/rel zealots" on here spout so much obvious nonsense about pro/rel outside the US and get called on it. That doesn't seem to be well-received.
Yes, it sure is telling, but not for the reasons you think. The YBTD Pro/Rel Thread, Part 9,614 Discussion in 'MLS: Commissioner - You be The Don' started by Scotty, Mar 8, 2016. It's no coincidence that the very same regular BS'ers I've accurately labeled as "the usual suspects" and "anti-pro/rel zealots" on this thread have also posted on the MLS Commissioner You Be The Don subforum. The same ones who post on this thread day after day, week after week, month after month, and year after year with an endless stream of arguments overwhelmingly negative and dismissive of just about every aspect of anything I've ever argued or read in favor of Pro/Rel in the USA. In comparison to this single "all-encompassing" thread, the subforum in question also happens to be moderated by one of the more viciously anti-Pro/Rel mods I've ever encountered on bigsoccer: @KCbus 40 clubs with "promotion and relegation"... So, the anti-Pro/Rel regulars on BS have effectively ruined BOTH OPTIONS supposedly available to post positively about Pro/Rel on Bigsoccer. Y'all must be proud. I happen to be currently enjoying a rather vibrant discussion on twitter that is more robust with a far wider variety of thought and knowledgeable expertise than anything I've encountered on Bigsoccer the past 5 years. Many views I now find very commonplace in the American soccer community are conspicuously missing from this forum in general and have been missing for several years.... In 2002, the three guys who owned 10 teams between them kept MLS alive using guaranteed USSF D1 sanctioning. Yet in 2018, the MLS snobs/apologists on Bigsoccer are overwhelming against the three guys who are now trying to keep the NASL alive by offering to commit half a billion dollars of investment and movement towards a system of Pro/Rel in this country. Ironic. One of several reason why the Bigsoccer forum sucks so bad for those of us who are fans of the concept of Pro/Rel in America as a movement. Let me know when there's a new moderator in the Soccer in the USA subforum and when a new Pro/Rel subforum has been made available for the many American fans of the concept. Fans who can discuss how it could be introduced in the United States of America without being routinely shouted down, trolled, and spammed by the obnoxious little clique of posters in this thread and others...
Cool story, bro. If you haven’t noticed, there’s still a thread on the topic on the front page of that forum. It just doesn’t get a lot of interest because the site’s biggest antagonist isn’t allowed to fan the flames.
Wrong thread. It's this one: https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/pro-rel-fantasies-implementation-and-maintenance.2024344/
