Was talking to a friend yesterday about all this DA/ECNL stuff and he made a pretty good point. So many are tied up in which one is the best that they're losing sight of what actually makes the most meaningful impact on the player: the club. It's the club that runs the trainings that account for more hours of interaction with the player than the match. The DA or ECNL really only provides the games.

Personally I feel that the player needs both a good training environment and the right level of competition, but it's refreshing to hear from someone who's not just jamming one or the other.

Yeah - excellent point indeed. The two most important factors are the coach and the player pool IMO. You lose either one ad it's likely time to move on.

Well we all know what happens after one player (her mother in this case) starts the ball rolling. Odds are it's just begun.

But back on track - we not only need a second ECNL but another DA as well.

    Galaxy? CSA?

    Chicago Rush?

    Stamford Bridge :ninja:

    1) Is NBC F***ing kidding me with that headline? The innuendo and take away is that it was more than foul language- even if not. Yes, he should be have been fired, and if there was nothing else....DONT REPORT IT. An abusive coach is justly canned. End of story. But to even have the follow up on charges not "at this time" is unfair - even for a bad dude.

    2) No DA or expansion this year in Chicago. DA may pick up a few out of state. CUP dad is saying Cleveland or Columbus area.

Hope CUP dad is right for his sake. Long bus ride for his kid to visit Shattuck twice a year to make up for the loss of three teams in Midwest region.

How are Midwest teams going to fill their schedules? Just play the same teams over and over... and over?

Per him, fewer league games and more flexibility in playing non DA teams in friendlies (i.e., can play ECNL teams). So, CUP can play Ohio Prem; Hawks v Nationals, Sockers v Eclipse etc.

That CUP dad must be a 442 subscriber.
    https://www.fourfourtwo.com/us/features/us-soccer-girls-development-academy-ecnl-uswnt-challenges

"So the Development Academy is adapting. Hickey says teams will have “open weekends” in the schedule in which they can schedule games against comparable opposition instead of playing a mismatch in the same regional division.

And that’s not the only change. Next year, every age group except the U-19s will be able to use all seven subs in a game, reducing the likelihood of a player traveling and then not seeing the field at all."

"Open Weekends"? I guess that is one way of spinning it. More training, fewer games... wasn't that their sales pitch a year ago. "fewer games, promises made, promises kept - GDA

GDA has the same problem in the northeast, seven teams total right now, and two stink. Mid-Atlantic similar. Will ECNL teams be willing to schedule friendlies with them? I think the war is fully on right now and I don't see ECNL doing anything to make the GDA program more appealing. Will GDA teams start playing NL teams... and risk getting beat?

Not sure all ECNL and DA teams have signed the death-to-the-enemy oath, so..."for the good of the girls' development"....I think you see some cross-over games. They maybe will have to be in moat-surrounded pitches teeming with armed guards.

And yes, there are some fences between neighboring clubs that Kissinger could not even mend. But this availability could solve the ECNL issue of what to do with full-year kids during HS season? After all, how many second-rate showcases can they go to?

    Snarky about what?

What do you mean dissolved? I doubt that.

They are definitely dissolving the club. One partner took a coaching job at another club so he could focus on coaching and not running a club and the other is starting a new club. The one that took the job also wanted to offer a bigger platform to his teams. While he managed to get his teams in some good showcases the bigger, more established club can offer more.

I assumed you were being snarky since there are already 3 DA clubs more or less in the same area adding another would seem to stretch the talent out too thin.

    My 2 cents -

Dissolved is the legal term but not accurate. The Stamford Bridge partnership involved 2 individuals with different visions. One wanted to provide a community based program that took in everybody, the other wanted to do higher level development. So in reality what is happening is one partner is moving to a community based club, relieved of the administrative burden, the other is keeping the club and changing the name. The partner keeping the club owns a sports facility which can now administer the club since there are no corporate conflicts with the partnership. Rumors are this was planned over a year ago, wasn’t supposed to happen for another year but was accelerated when the partner received the opportunity to join the community club.

CLF, Does that mean he will be cutting players? Will they only take new players that will play at a higher level?

I am unable to edit my post but wanted to add that I don’t think my 06 will fit into this new vision then. ☹️ Not overly competitive.

My understanding is as opposed to the past where they had multiple under-rostered teams at each age group, going forward teams will be appropriately rostered (if playing 11v11 then ideally 13-14, not 11 players or 18 players). Goal is to have 2 teams per age group. They may have 1 or 3 teams at a oarticular age depending upon numbers but most important is to have roster size appropriate. Also, remember these kids are not finished products so I don’t think they are too concerned about where the kid’s level it today, they are interested in developing them.

Having said all that, as opposed to the past they are not just taking everybody that comes to tryouts. Going forward roster size will be important.

My step kid is on a black team our coach is a parent volunteer and I think a lot of the other black teams have parent volunteer coaches. They do okay but we are struggling in D division. Are they then getting rid of the parent volunteer coaches then and hiring more expierienced coaches to develop the black teams that are struggling? It never occurred to me that she may not have a spot on a team and I don’t think other parents are aware of that either. I think we should do other tryouts just to be safe? She would be crushed if she didn’t make it.

Did you go to the meeting on Monday? They answered a lot of the questions at the meeting. Since you are already with the club I would reach out to your coach or Paul for guidance before determining whether you should do tryouts elsewhere. I know the coaches well enough to believe they will give you a better answer than I could. And they will be honest about whether you should tryout another place as well.

I emailed Paul after my response. Thank you for answering though. Can you clue me in to any plans for new coaches? I don’t like to brag.........much but my bio kids played at a different club, one even played MRL (which makes me an expert right?)

Have you been to the new website? It lists the bios for the coaching staff for the fall. I’ve asked, they believe they are adequately staffed but would add one more if it was the right coach (ie a good, experienced one). And, no more parent volunteer coaches. The coaches are “compensated professionals” going forward.

Quick question. How many clubs have ECNL teams in the area?
