Yeah a bit scary at the end but a deserved 3 points. Starting to get annoyed by Wanchope's inability to cash in. Reynoso has gotten better every game. Very impressive in this one.
Good win. Really standout work from Pablo Perez and Reynoso. We should be sitting on 6 points from 2 convincing wins, but I'll take the hard fought 4 pts.
Real crappy match tonight. Barely anything happened until the last 10 minutes or so. It's perhaps fitting that the 2 goals came from defensive errors. A point in Brazil isn't too bad though.
Game was there for the taking until Jara did... whatever that was. At least Carlitos and Pavon salvaged it.
Well deserved "puntito" brought back from Brazil. It was a solid defensive effort against a dangerous team, at least until Jara fkd it up at the end. Boca needs to do more offensively, with the players we have. Hopefully with Tevez back things will start improving.
Very disappointing game last night. Just completely gift wrapped it for Palmeiras. I don't know how we can be so stupid sometimes..
Yeah, Alianza probably didn't need to make the trip. It's a festival a la Bombonera for an inspired Boca.
Up next? Libertad of Paraguay. Hay un muchacho de Don Torcuato que lo recuerda a Libertad con mucho entusiasmo y, nosotros, también. pic.twitter.com/mMHGvjQ2Qc— Marcelo Merkato (@MarceloMerkato) June 5, 2018
All things considered, Libertad is a good opponent for the next round. Obviously they deserve the respect of a group winner and Paraguayan clubs have proven to be tough, but we have to admit we avoided the most dangerous teams. If we get past them, it will get dicey, most likely we'll have to beat two top Brazilian clubs to get to the final. And, if we manage that, then as much as I would enjoy watching riBer lose before then, it would be nice if we played them and beat them in the final. That would be the ideal scenario.
Very wasteful Boca in the 2nd half. Could have put things to bed for good. So is this really going to be Tevez's role...closing out the last 5-10 minutes of games?
I agree we should've crushed them and we also toyed with giving them a late road goal which would've been awful. Hopefully they are sharper. At least we got two and went up early to ease into things.
I was a bit concerned about the organization on attack. I'd like to see the team have better control of the midfield. Having said that though, it looked like a terrible night to be outdoors.
CONMEBOL might be letting riBer get away with playing a suspended player, but hey AFA Bostera amirite?
That suspension is from a game played 5 years ago (2013 - Racing vs. Lanus), after River inquired on paper if he was/wasn't allowed to play. This is a huge mistake from CONMEBOL, almost identical to the Carlos Sanchez controversy going on in the Santos-Independiente series (with the difference being that to my knowledge the Brazilians didn't attempt to verify his availability before playing him) However how are you going to deny that AFA is run by bosteros? It is so blatant, the bastards don't even try to hide it. It is different when people from "X" club would claim Grondona favored Boca or River, but Tapia and Angelici are the epitome of bosteros and they make sure the world knows it. I'm not saying that they are the root of your triumphs or the misfortunes of others, but it is a bit ridiculous to deny the bosteroness of AFA when the heads of the organization sing songs about their passion for Boca in public, toast with wine glasses that sport Boca logos at AFA meetings, are known to be long-time paying members of the club, refuse to show up when River wins titles (see Copa Argentina final), etc. It's like saying Ricky Martin isn't gay....... come on, bruh
And for the record, the one being screwed here is River, since Ponzio is suspended for the second leg and Zuculini was supposed to be his replacement. Now we’re left without a natural defensive midfielder for a decisive knockout match, whereas if CONMEBOL had responded correctly to River’s enquiry about his suspension months ago he would have served it in a group stage match played in February rather than now. It is what it is, but this will affect River negatively despite no wrongdoing from the club
I'm not necessarily denying it as they are pretty stupid and I've joked about it myself but it's a bit funny how much crying there is when there's some vague conspiracy theory or rule interpretation that might favor Boca, and then we have a team field an ineligible player for multiple games and all the excuses come. I wish the focus were on how incompetent these federations are in general.
Can't wait to get home to actually watch, but it looks like the boys were clinical tonight to put matters to rest. On to the next one.
Our defense was an absolute shambles. It's going to have to be a LOT better than that to have any hope of progressing next round. Goltz and Magallan straight up setting things on a plate for the Libertad forwards. Fortunately we got plenty of goals so we didn't have to sweat it out in the end.
