So you all know.. The guest from SI Luis Miguel Echegaray you had on is quality. Not like that nerd that was the previous guest. I commend you. Bops is a fair just man. Lettuce rejoice. Side note.. Link bsmx to the moment he jumps on so we can skip all the filler and half assed Chivas assessments from @Various Styles..
Oh wow. That dudes also a professor at CUNY. wonder if I’ve ever run into him on the subway... I hope he wasn’t reading the chat last night lol.
have you guys talked about the mess that is Ascenso MX on the podcast yet? If not, I'd like to hear about it. I've looked into the rules for how they determine how the ascenso playoff will go. the relevant info is on page 16 of the Ascenso MX rulebook. basically, neither Alebrijes nor Cafetaleros qualify for ascension into primera, since they either don't play in a 20k seater stadium or are owned by a group that owns another club in Liga MX. whoever wins the playoff final has 45 days to rectify their situation. if they don't, then the next-qualified team, Celaya, has the right to pay the playoff winner the $120 million and take the place of Lobos. I'm really interested in what happens if nobody does anything. i'm not sure if Tapachula can move to the Jaguares' old stadium, Victor Manuel Reyna (if they even win the playoff), or what will happen if Celaya can't pay the money either. Does this mean that Apertura 2018 will be played with one less team?
Ron GuacIsNotFree, @Various Styles and @John Jagou will probably know the rules on this thing. I'll bring it up I have ran across news that says Lobos BUAP would be paying the 120 million pesos to stay up.
We keep it lighthearted and mostly enjoy shooting the shit and talking about our teams or trash talking each other. We do go off on tangents a bit much but John has been keeping that in check, mostly.
We havent discussed this specific aspect of Acenso. Good topic to bring up. A few podcasts back we discussed how we would like to fix the current acensco situation.
1. Farts are funny and an evergreen topic. 2. We will discuss AscensoMX mess this week. And we will have quite a bit to say about it. 3. Thanks for the kind words on the LM Echegaray interview. We will be having more interviews like that moving forward.
Enrique Bonilla said yesterday after Cafetaleros' win that if Lobos does not pay the ascenso winner $120 million MXN to stay in primera, Apertura 2018 will be played with 17 clubs instead of 18. So, forget about Celaya having an option due to highest point accumulation over the two ascenso tournaments. This also means, I think, that we'd have to wait until at least Clausura 2019, during the next ascenso playoff, to potentially see 18 clubs in Liga MX again under the current system. Rafa Puente brought up a great point (if I'm understanding correctly) on last night's futbol picante. The relevant stuff starts around 29:15. Say Lobos refuses to pay/can't come up with the cash. Presumably, the $120 mil prize money would come out of FMF's pocket (sponsorship deals, friendly game revenue, etc.), rather than Lobos. Is there anything legally preventing the ascenso playoff winner, be it Cafetaleros or Alebrijes, from spending that money on anything else other than stadium upgrades? Rafa mentions the winner can theoretically just take the money, ally itself with Lobos, and donate the prize money to them so that it can stay in primera. Then, the winner can just sell the franchise and take over Lobos' spot in first division. I'm definitely not sure I'm fully understanding this last part, though. Feel free to correct any mistakes or false conclusions I've made.
I don't disagree with keeping it light-hearted but come on when an hour of it is light hearted my attention is long gone by the time the content is talked about.
That amount is the equivalent of $6.5M U.S dollars. The majority of Liga MX clubs spend more than that on a single transfer plus wages. I would say the money is not the issue as is getting clubs that will be able to keep up with the Leagues new demands. I just hope they also have plans to improve second division.
There are days when there is not much happening but other than that we always go after the main issues. We have also cut down on panelist greetings to get straight to the news.
