Given that the player in question received medical treatment after ingesting an 'unknown substance', the team won't be able to say much due to medical privacy laws. A local news station said that emergency services transported a white male. That is as much as is known publicly. Glad the guy is recovered. Local fans are miffed that the team has generally received sporadic coverage (certainly losing a lot of games isn't giving the media much reason to cover them), but a player falls out at a bar and suddenly it's on the top of the news. Minor league teams in Saint Louis face an uphill battle for media recognition. Our main newspaper in St. Louis won't cover the Ambush much because they play in St. Charles 20 minutes away (they have said this to team staff). That is a short-sighted attitude but that is what we have to deal with. If we developed an elite player with local roots and won a lot more games, local media would probably cover the team more often.
To get you in the mood for Friday's and Sunday's MASL Conference Finals and to see again the home arena for the new Toronto MASL club in 2018-19:
http://www.stlambush.com/news/message-to-our-fans-from-ambush-ceo-shelly-clark You might recall the 'manifesto' from Ambush majority owner Shelly Clark last year. Read above for the latest installment. It looks like the Ambush are building in an incremental way rather than doing a 'roster flush' (we don't need to get rid of everyone, there are holes on the roster but the cupboard isn't bare either). I respect the fiscal responsibility of the ownership - a trait all too rare in our sport. The organization is doing all the right things off the field in terms of community engagement, though I think they could be more visible in their marketing. The organization is way more stable than it has ever been. The vibe is much more positive, in my interactions with the organization than it was a few years back. But the team has to win games at some point. Can the Ambush improve their scoring and perform better late in games to at least get to 8 or 10 wins next season? The strength is the highly experienced coaching staff led by Hewerton, who can recruit players much better than prior coaches. His system put the Ambush in position to win 11 games this past season, and some losses were overtime or last-minute collapses. Can the Ambush find enough viable indoor players who buy into a longer term vision? It's going to take more than a couple of new 'experienced-player guys' to truly turn things around. It is worth noting that we have been rebuilding from a very low place - the 2016-17 team that went 1-19 was truly one of the worst teams in the history of the sport. I applaud the progress, I just hope for some more wins. It is better for the league to have more teams that are competitive.
They need better players, period. The MASL is not like baseball where you can draft and develop players. You can either sign free agent veterans or take an even more risky chance and sign unproven foreigners and outdoor players. But you still need to find players that are more talented than the current roster.
Agreed 100%. If the Ambush don't get enough experienced players to win half their games, I am not sure they will still be in the MASL after this coming season. If they don't fold, maybe they drop back to MASL2, if they truly are not committed to spend the money to hire experienced players. From the tone of her 'statement', a lot of fans have been suggesting the same thing - hire better players, win games. If we don't win a lot more games next season, the Ambush won't have enough fans left to throw in a fishing pond. It is disappointing. Why would you own a team and not try to win? Get enough talent in here to win half the games, that isn't asking a lot at this point, going into the sixth season. Winning games isn't just for vain glory, its about survival of the Ambush at this point.
Ambush Sign Head Coach Hewerton to Two-Year Extension http://www.stlambush.com/news/ambush-sign-head-coach-hewerton-to-two-year-extens
As long as this is not the team name and logo and it does not have anything to do with a fish i will be happy. Seems like every team that has a fish in the lofo has failed in indoor soccer.
What is THAT logo? And I'm not sure "Orlando Assault" is such a wonderful idea considering recent history.
I am having a really hard time recalling indoor teams with a fish in the logo. I am sure that a few have existed. Sitting here in the midwest, I can't think of any. The Door County Real Sturgeons FC comes to mind. That is all I can think of. Also the Lakeland Walleye. That might be a college team. Actually, I think that Real Sturgeons FC might be a pretty cool name! Better than the Peoria Crappies!
He's most likely talking about the Orlando Sharks and the Norfolk Sharx-I cannot think of another... oh wait, Arizona SandSharks-CISL
MASL free agency list and period is released. http://www.maslsoccer.com/news/masl-sets-dates-for-annual-free-agency-period
Similar to last year, fans will pay way too much attention to the free agent period , but only a few notable players will change teams. Most players won't sign until the fall. I'll hit the snooze button (for the most part) until mid-August.
I guess Mermaid Unicorns was already taken. Sharks has been used too many times by indoor teams. Hope these owners manage the team better in Orlando than the last couple years in Cedar Rapids.
Summary- he’s proud of what they’ve done over the last three years and loves the game. Unfortunately Soles needs to take some time to reorganize and won’t play in 2018/2019. He thinks Sonora and Mexico are good markets for the game and even now investors are looking to organize a team in the south of Sonora.
I hope they do better than the Sharks. That's really all I can say. That was perhaps a little too soon.
http://www.maslsoccer.com/news/seawolves-announce-brazilian-trio http://www.maslsoccer.com/news/seawolves-add-jonny-mendoza Orlando is quickly building a talented roster. Love the commitment to build a winning team. Winning isn't everything, but you can't build a sponsor base and fan base without it. Kokalis gets it. Look forward to seeing them play.
