Idk - given the restrictions with the stadium, I think he earned the chance to manage the club with real resources. It's a shame it turned out the way it did, but if he'd left in 2013, we'd always want to bring Wenger back.
Damn!... if Arsene didn't do the right thing in the end. He's always had class beyond his peers. And Stan deserves some credit too. So now begins the new nervous period that we've all been both looking forward to and dreading a bit: Who will replace him? Has he already been secured or will we be playing a game of musical chairs over the summer? And most importantly how will we play under the new guy, and will he improve our results? But HUGE respect for Le Boss. And I wouldn't be surprised if a bunch of famous alumni show up for a big tribute day at the Grove... unless AW puts the kibosh on that.
How can I properly phrase it... SAF's Man Utd. v. Arsene's Arsenal must've been how people felt when Ali and Frazier fought in those 3 fights. Just wanting the championship of each other with every encounter they had.
I've been on the Wenger Out train since before we had a train. It was just three of us standing around waiting for the bus back then, but seeing the news this morning felt like being told a family member died. Only the Manchester teams have outspent us in recent years. If Wenger is going to find any further managerial success it will probably be with a national team.
This is what I'm saying. I'm saying that the work he did prior to 2013 meant that he'd earned the chance to spend money and upgrade the squad.
He earned it and squandered it. To be fair, the landscaped changed on him, but I don't think he evolved with the competitive nature of the league or with the game in general very well. In a weird way, it feels like breaking up with a girl. You know she loves you, and you don't want to see her hurt, but you know the relationship has run its course. It sucks, but it had to be done eventually.
This is what excites/scares me at the same time. Next season could be the "be careful what you wish for" season or we can have a Rijkaard-Guardiola situation and be back on top. It's pretty wild that we have had only 2 managers over the past 30 years - Bruce Rioch doesn't count b/c he was only around for a cup of coffee
Let's give our support to trying to recreate this event (minus Goonersaurus of course) next month in Lyon...
Jardim, Tuchel, Hassenhuttl, Allegri would be amomgst my top picks. F**k off to Rodgers, Enrique. I'm really torn on Howe: He looks like he'd be someone that would flourish at a more high-profile club than Bournemouth but, at the same time, I'd be leery of giving him the reins at Arsenal.
Just want to remind people that there's a succession speculation thread already: https://www.bigsoccer.com/threads/stop-dragan-this-out-the-wenger-succession-thread.2038890/
Or even worse, if you know that and still end up being guilted or manipulated into staying with her anyway for another 3 years, you'd end up really hating the b***h at the end.
I just hope we get somebody good. It's going to be hard for fans and management to evaluate a new manager, in particular how much time and resources the new guy gets. On the one hand, it's going to be ridiculous to say that he gets as much discretion as Wenger, on the other we have a lot of work to do so we have to insist on progress if nothing else from our new manager and on our part make smart assessments based on that.
Hey it’s tome for him to go so a lot of us are ‘Wenger out’ but we still love the guy He has been frustrating as hell and I’ve talked some angry smack which I regret but I don’t think there is a real football fan on the planet who doesn’t admire how he’s changed the game and bought us a magnificent spectacle on the field for years Diet, training, style all came with him and he managed to disrupt Utd which is a massive task in itself I am so happy, all the stress and worry about arsenal and pent up anger has just gone....I feel relieved and I hope we name a stand after him or build a massive statue He’s been a credit to the club and the philosophy of our founding g fathers Good luck wenger, I wonder if u will have a go for France? That would be amazing
I've been saying it for months that Arsenal and AW would mutually agree to part ways so he could take the France job. They've done part 1 a bit earlier than I expected.
Wenger's teams at their best played a beautiful, exciting brand of football--and in that sense he changed the EPL. He often had less talent to work with then some of his mega-club rivals. It's always hard to maintain a very high level of success for a very long time, and Wenger was at Arsenal for an incredibly long long. Intelligent, innovative, a gentleman and class act--Wenger.
I'm with you. Only problem is we don't have any stands to name... sadly those were lost when we demo'd our beloved old 4-stander.
