Come on guys, this is all conjecture assigning blame based on end results. We don't want to think it was Smith but maybe it was and Nagle had no choice but submit without Republic. His investors backed out at the last minute, how was that his fault. And you don't know who is or isn't lined up. We can't be public about investors until it's done. FCC had a public issue that could be addressed through the media, we don't. And I will be the first one with my pitchfork preventing Nagle from stepping anywhere near this town if in fact he did bungle it up, but we don't have nearly enough information to assign blame at this time.
Now Phoenix is the locale we gotta be scared for.......first NYC, Orlando, Minnesota, Atlanta, Miami, then Nashville and Cincy, now Phoenix......
Detroit... Nashville is still what perplexes and enrages me. Came out of nowhere and got a team without any existing team/fan base and smaller market. No one should be mad at Cincy fans if they do get the spot. Nashville deserves our scorn. ...well, and Nagle, probably - most of all.
Detroit we should be thankful for as the one team that screwed the pooch worse than us IMO. Moving to Ford basically said "we changed our mind we dont want MLS anymore". Phoenix is busy dotting Is and crossing Ts as we speak. They scare me. Nashville I got mixed feelings on. They just felt about hallfway through the process like......"you know what, I would mark them as a darkhorse in this thing". They put in that "12 city bid" on literally the last day. No one took them seriously as a bid until close to the end, and they got it. I mean it is very easy to get jaded that they had no known grassroots fanbase whatsoever but who knows they might pull well. All my anger is directed local. We had this. Now Nashville and 99.9% sure Cincinnati pass us. Only a sensational act of stupidity and scorn by MLS to screw over the Crew prevents that (and I dont wish that on Cincy at all). Phoenix looms large.
They had a contractual agreement that he could get a franchise if he came up with $25 million by a certain date. He did. Don't know if there was an expiration date on when he had to have a team in place. I would say your anger at Beckham is misplaced. Maybe aim a little higher, say maybe Garber? I got the feeling Garber was yanking your chain when the process got going this round. Awarding Nashville made feel positive. I wish you all the best and hope you can get your investor. If I was a potential investor I would not be happy being referred to as a "whale."
Major League Soccer released the following statement about expansion following Tuesday's Board of Governors meeting: Major League Soccer's owners met today in Los Angeles and discussed a variety of topics including a review of potential expansion finalists Cincinnati, Detroit and Sacramento. The MLS Board of Governors viewed the recent Cincinnati City Council vote on the West End stadium as a positive step forward for Cincinnati's expansion bid. While there was no plan for a formal expansion vote at today's Board of Governors meeting, the League will continue discussions with the three expansion finalists. So it appears to be a meh by this statement.
MLS UPDATE: @KevinNagleMLS tells us he’s speaking with 3-5 investors ... who are all “very serious” @SacRepublicFC @kcranews— Michelle Dapper (@KCRAdapper) April 19, 2018 Nagle adds he’s very confident and league has been in touch with investors ... sounds like a fluid situation @KevinNagleMLS @SacRepublicFC— Michelle Dapper (@KCRAdapper) April 19, 2018 Riiiiiiiiight...
“Serious talks” with “3-5 investors” is the new “we will have an announcement in the next 60-90 days”.
Another nothing-burger. The only reason the media talked to Nagle yesterday is that the state politicos were playing their annual charity soccer game, not because he had new info to share. And, "a fluid situation" is PR talk for "nobody actually knows what the hell is going on." SS - your twitter reply was awesome, lol.
Funny part is, Dapper liked the reply. So it seems that at least some folks at KRCA-3 recognize crap when they see it.
yeah.........buckle your seats kids, this isnt gonna be done any time soon damn Nagle, damn him so hard.
So it looks like my initial Beetlejuice reaction started a small response thread from Nagle. Should I post it here?
Sure! Why not? What else have we got to amuse ourselves with while this expansion bid goes down the toilet?
