I know that Greenville isn't a contender for MLS, but any chance for a USL or NASL team? The Swamp rabbits and the Drive have a good following. Plus, it's a booming, fun town to be. Moving to Greenville tomorrow, and hoping that we can bring pro soccer to the upstate.

    Any other upstate fans?

things about what today’s announcement entails.
    1. Greenville FC and Greenville’s unnamed USLD3 teams are separate entities. They are owned by separate groups. They will play in different leagues and divisions. They will have different names, kits, players, and probably play in different venues.
    2. The USL’s Division III league is professional (meaning that they pay their players) and will be seeking sanctioning this summer. The NPSL, where Greenville FC plays, is considered semi-professional because some teams pay their players (professional) and other teams do not (amateur). As far as I am aware, Greenville FC has not said whether or not they intend to pay players so the question as to whether they are “professional” or “amateur” is unknown. However, they have from the beginning referred to themselves as a “professional” team, and there was a tweet referring to college students not being on the team because of reasons that would become apparent. College players cannot be paid obviously, and they risk losing their eligibility if they play on a team with paid players. All of that makes me assume that Greenville FC will, in fact, be a “professional” team.

My name suggestion: Greenville Liberty FC

Named after the Liberty Bridge which is one of Greenville’s most notable attractions. Plus, it rings well and can play off the Battery and Independence when we play each other.

Aren't the Furman Paladins in Greenville? Or at least pretty close.

2,077 fans in Greenville, South Carolina for their new NPSL team's first home match. Shoutout to everyone building American soccer in their communities. A lot of ambitious, vital work is going on below our closed top division

Anybody over there watch the Triumph? I wonder how there crowds were this year. I used to live in the western Carolinas, so it's good to see the Upstate being repped in American soccer circles.

I went to games frequently. They were a lot of fun. There’s a lot of work to do but fun nonetheless.
