Another point to be made is that NYCFC, in my experience, seems to have a large contingent of supporters who were casual, or even not soccer fans at all before. Add that to the fans in the Bronx who could not afford to spend all the money to get to the meadowlands and you have a large contingent of supporters. The "snobs" you speak of, I don't seem to see any significant amount of them in the Bronx. I doubt the eurosnobs suddenly supported a satellite team playing in a baseball stadium in the same league they stuffed their noses at all those years.
If you take the freeways you are essentially dropped off at CSUDH’s doorstep. I’ve been there countless times and never had any issues (other than exorbitant parking fees and traffic). James
Carson itself is a shithole. Not a terribly unsafe one, but a shithole nonetheless. Aside from the college campus (itself a bottom-feeding institution), there's literally nothing within 3 miles of the stadium that is redeemable.
I'm a long-time Galaxy fan, but you can see why LAFC would better serve the downtown crowd. I think LA is big enough to serve these two teams where they are rationally located across town from each other.
IKEA! Also - don’t knock CSUs. They make a 4 year education affordable to people who can put in the work but not afford UC. At least it isn’t USC. That’s a real bottom feeder. James
It has little to do with money for most of them. If you look at test scores and GPAs, the vast majority of CSU students do not qualify for UC's. For example,I know plenty of kids that ended up at cal state long beach and they weren't exactly burning the world up with their brains. I'm sure some fit your description, but with scholarships and student loans they should be attending a UC if qualified. If they make the right academic choices, the investment more than pays off.
It is pretty scary to exit a freeway onto a wide suburban boulevard, drive past a bunch of strip malls and end up on a state university campus.
8,447 in Columbus. Not totally surprising — the Blue Jackets had a 7 pm home faceoff, while on a ten-game win streak and in the thick of a crowded playoff race.
This season could get very Chivas-esque for the crew. Attendance tends to trend up at the season goes on, but there are special circumstances in play here...
Yup. Fools are still gonna act like the low numbers prove Precourt right though, even though they are likely a RESULT of his shenanigans at this point.
You've never been to LA. On game days it can take a half hour to get from the freeway to the parking lot at Stubhub.
