Arnim on his Twitter: So what happened? Did some jackass troll who is mad or jealous about the Red Stars getting Kerr or about the Press/Houston fiasco complain about the CRS to Twitter or something?
Just saw this from Twitter: great overview of the offseason and outlook for the future from three ProWoSo vets http://www.americansoccernow.com/ar...uous-offseason-nwsl-is-set-to-kickoff-in-2018 Nothing we don't already know, but fun to get the players' perspectives, and it's very well-written.
I do agree, exceptionally well-written, many insightful views both from the players and the writer, and all in all a pleasure to read.
I thought I would post the link to Lewis Gettier's Photos from Courage vs. Spirit here, because they might be of interest fans in addition to the Spirit and Courage fans. https://www.lewisgettier.com/Sports/NC-Courage-vs-Washington-Spirit-3-17-2018/ edit: P.S. I posted the link before I flipped through the photos. Now I have. How can anyone not LOVE the NWSL?
http://www.wralsportsfan.com/Radio/audio/17436100/ IMO a fantastic interview of Paul Riley by Neil Morris. Morris is really good. He'll ask a question and get a response and then follow up with: Why? There are MANY nuggets here. Riley's looking for a 6; he knows there is still roster room to sign trialist(s) and has told them point blank -"you have to impress me;" Crystal Dunn will NOT be playing back at all; Mewis is 3 weeks from ready; King will be in Cary Mid-April, but won't be ready to play until Mid-May; Chapman and Hinkle are neck and neck at LB, but it is Hinkle's job for now; he has not chosen a keeper for Saturday's game, and lots of other stuff. Turn it on while you're working in the kitchen - 30 minutes of rapid fire Riley. ALSO: Next week there is going to be an announcement about some Big Clubs coming to the US to play.
I just read the NWSL-made article on Duffy's preseason conference call, and one of the points was asking about the location of the 2018 champions match, to which the answer was "talks with a host are ongoing". Obviously that tips nothing as to who they're talking with, and if you had to put a list together of who might host, you'd probably expect RioT to be at the top of the list. That said, other possibilities could include WakeMed, Providence Park, or maybe even Audi Field. I bring this up because a crazy idea hit me when reading that article... Could another possibility be Banc of California stadium? We already know that the Barca/LAFC partnership for 2019 is about as badly-kept a secret as the Pride were in the months leading up to their official expansion announcement. It would be quite the blockbuster announcement to name the 2018 Championship host and the next expansion team at the same time, and you can't get much more of a neutral-for-the-game-itself-but-still-absolutely-hyped fanbase than one for a team-to-be.
And another interesting tidbit: maybe NC's current coach had a hand in convincing the coach he replaced back in Portland to come down to NC? Another nice player interview, this time of Yael Averbuch from SoccerAmerica: https://www.socceramerica.com/publi...uch-on-forming-the-nwsl-players-associat.html Her comment about international competition and an all-star game reminds me of all the crazy ideas I have about how to make the playoffs a bigger "event"... But that's some wild postulating for another thread. X-D
I wonder if folks would be up for something of a book club discussion? A slow moving one, but one with a central book - I would suggest this one. We could pick a date in the future some time, and then whoever wants, read it, and we'll have a thread where we can discuss it. No worries if not. I just know I plan on reading this in the next two months and wonder if folks would be interested.
I read this book and it is excellent. I'd be up to discuss it. She's written two books. "Under the Lights and in the Dark" is the more interesting one.

anybody knows exactly what parsons did to get a 2 game suspension and a fine? http://www.nwslsoccer.com/news/#nwsl-suspends-and-fines-portland-head-coach-mark-parsons something really bad?
I've been out of the country for a week and a half with limited internet. What happened while I was gone? I see the Red Stars tied last week but most of their good players are out due to injuries.
No one knows. It was something after the game in interaction with the officials, which makes me think abusive language, a threat (direct or implied) towards an official, or something similar.
I don't know, but I'm guessing he was pissed off about a PK not being called when Midge Purse went down in the box late in the game. Looking at the replay, it looks to me like she beat D'Angelo to the ball, touched it first with a relatively small rebound off D'Angelo's leg, and D'Angelo in the process caught Purse's foot and brought her down. He might have had some choice words for the ref.
Well, by now you've probably seen most of highlights. Basically, what happened it's not only that the Red Stars tied, but also that they did that at the last possible chance in stoppage time. It looks like their many absences due to injuries + Asian Cup are going to be way more taxing that we could have figured and the first month of the league will probably be quite painful for Chicago. Meanwhile Seattle and Courage look solid.
Are most NWSL players signing a one year contract with a one year option? Does the Naitonal Team players have a different set-up?
Every non-allocated player, with the exception of Marta, is on a 1+1 contract. The league granted an exemption to Orlando to sign Marta to a 2+1 deal. Allocated players are contracted through their respective federations on a yearly basis.
