Well let's hope we are not excluding them. Unless you're of the Donovan mindset.....

Perhaps you didn't read the first sentence of my post. I said I do not want him to be chosen as the full time coach. But IF he is I wouldn't stop watching just because I think, based upon his history, that he'd automatically do a poor job.

I was about to make a similar post, except to say it be until Greg Belhalter is available.

And while there will be screaming and rending of garments, so justifiable, I think he would do a good job.

It 'sort-of' makes sense. By the end of the world cup, a handful of coaches either resign or are sacked from poor performances, so naturally we can take a look at the potential pool of coaching candidates.

As I said before, USSF is run by small timers, no ambition whatsoever. Only thing that matters to them is the fiefdom they run. That's all.

I don't want him as the head coach but at least he is calling in a lot of young players and trying to see them all.

We need to get thru the pool in any case. If we don't "need" to, then certainly it is an advantage that we have because we are not busy getting ready for Russia 2018 but instead are getting ready for Qatar 2022, ultimately.

So,let Sarachan call up the people who a person like Sarachan would call up, i.e., people who aren't particularly good footballers but people he thinks are the ones who will win games for him (he has 2 draws and one goal so far).

He seems to be obsessed with fullbacks at the mom.

I don't think Sarachan wants the job permanently because he would be proving what went wrong in 2017 if that were the case. On the contrary, he is doing everything he can to hide it.

And one of the reasons that Sarachan should not be the coach is from the link

“I still believe some of the older guys — the Michaels, the Jozys — are going to be very valuable as we get through this year,” Sarachan said

Why? We need to move on and get younger. Giving minutes to those two, and others like them, will not help develop the next generation. This is the time to start building... nothing to lose right now. Arena didnt get it. Took us into games too old to compete. Dave is Arena's assistant. It's no surprise that after all the years together, they think alike. Even Dempsey has to go now. Watching Bradley jog around the field in friendlies and Jozy just watching the game will do us no good. I can't believe that US Soccer still hasn't found a GM. This should have been done a month ago

Because you've never helped lead the US Men's National Team to utter hilarious failure on the world stage.

That failure was so incredible, surely Sarachan can't do it twice. Bulletproof logic, my friends.

(This post is entirely in jest. I apologize for suggesting the USSF employs logic).

My sincere hope is that he is just truly ignorant of the fact that US Soccer firmly plans on dumping him once the real coach is identified and hired after the World Cup, and that they only kept him on because his contract required him to be paid through the WC anyway and it made little sense to pay another person to do a temp job.

Or he's just lying to the press and has been told what is going to happen, and is commenting publicly this way to not sound like a dead man walking to the team.

Maybe by that time somebody will hire Arena and Dave can pack his bags to once again become Arena's assistant. Nobody is going to hire him as the new head coach though I really thought this would have been settled by now

the idea that the coaches currently in the world cup are holding up this process is asinine to me....

it's not as if being the coach of a WC team means you are better than the other coaches out there.....hopefully the end of the euro season plays into this delay as well......

this is why i hated sarachan even being named interim - when everyone was saying it doesnt matter - sarachan is angling for the job...which is horrible! god forbid the usmnt actually has a few good results in the next couple games!! (lately under the past few coaches I have had a weird hate-love for USMNT where i'm simultaneously rooting for and against the team at the same time...something i'm not proud of or happy with).

if sarachan is named coach i will personally boycott watching the USMNT until he and all his loser cronies are no longer affiliated.

There is no chance Sarachan becomes the permanent head coach and we are likely waiting for our preferred candidate to finish his contract with another team.

Sarachin will do a good job. But with a complete makeover, qualifying for 2022 will be difficult because the young guys might succumb to pressure. An international coach with a fancy rep will not like the odds.

It took me a minute or two to appreciate what a remarkable piece of propaganda and "preparation of the ground" this is. All in the service of the Old Guard within USSF. Kudos, Red Card of the Old Guard, Kudos.

You see, [1] Is setting it as an axiom that whatever job Sarachan does it is to be interpreted as a "Good job"..... So of course if we end up seeing something not so good it has to be either a fault in our eyes or the fault of some confounding variable. Whoever's fault it will be, it will not be Sarachan's...because "Sarachan will do a good job".
[2] This one is a beauty, a genuine twofer in one short uber-efficient sentence.! First it builds "The Reason" why, if we fail with Sarachan, it is not his fault. For sure Sarachan will do a good job, and so if we go belly up you can blame all those whippersnappers on the field and all of us who looked at the catastrophic failures of the past campaign and called for that complete makeover which allowed those whippersnappers onto the field. After all, if you have everything on the line in some dread day in T&T, we don't want to be relying on whippersnappers when you can have seasoned masters of the professional game like Mikey and Jozy. Second, it tells us to bring back the seasoned masters of the professional game like Mikey and Jozy, and not rely on whippersnappers, for in 2022 qualifying we sure are gonna need their remarkable set of skill, mental sharpness, and grit.
[3] This one tells us that we can stop looking for a manager of reputation or promise in the international game. They will quail before our odds like the French at Dien Bien Phu.....and that of course is why we need the unquailable Mr. Sarachan to take those odds and do odd things to them.

In short, Kudos Red Card says: "Sarachan, Sarachan! he's our Man! If he can't do it Nobody Can!" Which is exactly the sort of cure for the current ills of the american soccer state the powerful minds of the USSF can be relied upon to conjure up.

He should be in contention for the job. I don't see why not. He's done good work the first three friendlies and camps.

You know. The 4-1-4-1 isn’t bad idea for our player pool. It’s actually pretty flexible. That’s gotta be the least popular take of all time but I don’t mind it when it’s done conservatively and gets results.

Sarachan is going to figure out that Delgado wins games and BS will go into melt down when he comes out of Bolivia, France and Ireland with 2 wins and one draw, lol.

"Lol"... That's quite an argument there. Here's one just as good: "Sarachan is going to figure that Delgado wins games and BS will go into melt down when he comes out of Bolivia, France and Ireland with 2 losses and a draw, lol".

We have no idea how to measure the job done in a camp, and as for friendlies...well, if that was the criterion we'd be admiring the way Jurgen's 2nd Five Year Plan was so gloriously reproducing the mangnificence of his 1st Five Year Plan.
If the USSF is going to be satisfied with sticking with the same old crud, and Sarachan was very much part of the crud that saw us fail in qualifying, then it deserves all the crud it will reap.

Sarachan is NOT DOING A GOOD JOB. He missed a great opportunity to see more young players than he did because he was more interested in holding on to a PK goal win. Screw seeing more players. Why did we need to see Wood, Nagbe and Yedlin for so long? Giving people 5 minutes after flying across the ocean sucks. Secondly, I don't believe for a minute this is the team he would pick for other games. I will bet hes back to Dempsey, Bradley, Jozy and Zardes as fast as he can.

Sarachan is not the man to lead a total rebuild and youth movement.... too much Arena in him
