Just to add to my message. I am not saying that Japan has to change their approach in terms of finding better athletes, I'm saying that this is one of the most important reasons, why Japan struggling on the highest level and why this will be incredibly difficult to become like a TOP-3 team in the world. By the way, a good athlete, not necessarily the tallest athlete. For example, on one hand, Japan has Hasegawa, Momiki, Tanaka and on the other hand Yokoyama. If Japan can combine 10 field players with football IQ and talent of Hasegawa or Momiki with physical attributes of at least Yokoyama then Japan could shine again. At least a good thing is, all those "young" players still developing their physical attributes.

お局 (not the official players) means relatively older players in the team like Samechan or Sakaguchi etc.
差し入れ (not insertion) means something like presents or souvenirs.

I've found this roster with the numbers of each player:

Can we read anything into it? Are the starters #1 to #11 players? :)

The fact that Ikeda is #1 means that Takakura has made a definite choice of starting GK?

Utsugi is #2 (as Kinga in the good old times): does it mean Takakura sees her mainly as a Right-Back?

@#5nadeshikofan, by now it's some years that you already know that you should rename yourself into #3nadeshikofan: the Shark doesn't change her number!

Also, Kawasumi, as soon as she gets back in NT, is given her old #9. :) It was worn by Yokoyama at last Algarve Cup, but apparently she has now to pay homage to her senpai and to get back to her previous #20. :giggle:

Any other observations can be made?

By the way, the word "お局" contains some nuance of a single veteran (fastidious?) office lady used by younger ones who makes fun of her in a way.:p

Wow, guys: if I get it right both of you (Lechus7 and Manchester Nadeshiko) live in Europe like me, so I have to much praise your enthousiasm for Nadeshiko League starting! At which hour did you wake up to watch the games? :x3:

I just connected to the mycujoo website, only to get a rough idea of quality (that seems much better to me than anything we ever had before! :) Although in the Beleza game there is no comment and you can hear a cameraman snorting for the cold... :p:coffee:).
I won't stay long because I have to go to work soon.

I just watched the last minutes of Beleza-Cerezo. 3-1 Final Time (Miyazawa scores the 3rd for Beleza at 86').

Much interestingly, in the last minutes my beloved Kotono Tamazakura was subbed in for Cerezo!

I'll connect later to get a general picture of the match-day and also to watch highlights where available.

Oh, it's also time for me to open my Excel file where I write down statistics for season 2018! :p

This could have been remotely possible for me (actually... not! :p) during the week-end, when I don't have to work in the morning, but today it wasn't an option for sure.

Anyway, congratulations for watching the first games of the season. I'll stick around later to watch highlights.

By the way, I see INAC Kobe Leonessa won their match by 2-0. So, same goal difference as Beleza, but one less goal scored: Beleza are alreay at 1st place! :p

Welcome Twistal...even if you do live at the 'wrong end' of the East Lancs Road.
(I jest....the Liverpool Manchester rivalry doesn't really apply to us...I hail from the Midlands originally... although I've been here for thirty odd years... and you hail from Russia)

After recently rewatching some of the 2015 Canada WWC I can't see a 'significant' change in the overall team physical stature.
Arguably Ogimi (as was then) and Ohno were 'beefier' then than say Tanaka and Iwabuchi are now as a front two so holding the ball up for the onrushing midfielders seems to have now disappeared from the Nadeshiko game.
The big difference I see is that opponents have 'learned what they can get away with' when playing against these diminutive Asian teams and as a result have become a lot more physical... witness Iwabuchi being kicked all over the park and the Canadian 'hit them hard' squad at Algarve Cup....Refs are becoming less 'sympathetic' i.e. she's on the floor because she's tiny not because she's just been fouled.
In my opinion, yes everybody seems to be catching up in terms of technical ability but because we are never going to match them kilo for kilo we have to continue to 'out skill' them.
We have to get back to the situation that existed in the past when teams used to say.... we are bigger than them...we are stronger than them....we will beat them and we used to say......"you've got to get the ball off us first"

Well, it looks like Nagano wanted to deny my doubts right away with an away win... I wonder which ones are the club risking relegation this season: maybe some unexpected one could end in the brawl. :coffee:

In Division 2 I am impressed that both teams that are newly promoted from Challenge League, Bunnys and Shizuoka, got away with an away win. And both vs one of the teams that were relegated from Division 1 (Chifure and Iga)!!!!:eek::eek::eek::eek:
So it's: First Division 0 Challenge Legue 1 (or 2, if you sum up the results :giggle:).

Belle looks in danger since the first match-day!

Is it me, or there is missing game in Division 2? When is it going to be played?

Aya Sameshima: We're in a really tough group

"Do you think Japan's AFC Women’s Asian Cup line-up will be based around the established “old guard” or will there be an emphasis on new faces, as the team continues to rebuild?

Approaching the 2011 World Cup and then right through to 2015, the squad was quite settled and many of the players played together for years in that time but recently the coach rarely chooses the same players.

Of course, she is looking for the best and giving everyone a chance – but there is little consistency in selection right now so it may be difficult to have formed a settled team, or squad by April."

I went on mycujoo website, and I found the videos from three full matches (Mynavi-JEF, Urawa-Nojima, Beleza-Cerezo).

I saw a lot of rain and snow: not sure why, but spring-time is quite late this year, not only in Japan but here in Europe also (see Algarve :p). I'd like if Sakaguchi could be left so free to head the ball from FK on the international stage also! :giggle:
In the action of Urawa's second goal, after Ando hit the post, Shibata tapped in the ball, but she remained on the ground injured: nothing serious, I hope.

Have I to conclude that the other two matches aren't available? I would have liked to see INAC's goals: will I have to wait for INAC-TV YouTube videos?

Other parts of the interview are also intersting, like:

"You have been playing all over the defence, and even midfield recently. Where is your preferred position?

Well, I've been playing left-back, right-back, or centre-back, but I don't particularly want to play centre back."

Hopefully, our CB-position is well covered. Although Sameshima as a CB didn't seem so bad at times, she obviously doesn't like this position and wants to make it clear.
    Also:

    "The Group of Death?

    YES!"

But of course we already knew how unbalanced the two groups are.

I liked that one of the photos they used for the article was the beautiful goal the Shark scored in the last minutes of a freindly match vs Canada (in early 2015, if I am not wrong). :) Do you remember it too, guys?

Other two articles about Nadeshiko Japan had been uploaded on AFC website in the previous days:

    - One of them is an interview with Kumagai: I had repressed the memory of the fact that OL hadn't released her for AFC ASian Cup 2014!!! What a scandal! :devilish::devilish::devilish: Luckily this time OL didn't try anything of the kind (ok, last time around, probably, it was also on AFC, who hadn't properly used FIFA dates, but it was shameful anyway!)

    - The other one was about Kawasumi's return to Nadeshiko NT. Talking about veterans, did you know that "the ever-present trio of Saki Kumagai, Aya Sameshima and Rumi Utsugi accounting for 287 international appearances between them"? :)
