Houston is the anti-Columbus. 15k show in Houston = 20k reported. 18k show in Columbus = 14k reported. Yes, I know about sold/distributed. On that note, absent some really positive news on the Austin/Precourt front, Crew attendence is really gonna struggle. A lot of angry fans are in the "I am not giving that bum one dime of my money" boat. Hope I am wrong on that.
I'm sure they'll find another energy company that'll go out of business again within a few years. They've done a world-class job of failing at marketing and alienating amateur soccer clubs and charities. Should be a how-to book written on it. Customer service is on par with those skills too.
I am not arguing with you as you are right, but that said I felt like stadium looked much fuller than normal for this game.
Tijuana attendance was reported by ESPN as 22,000 in 27,000 capacity stadium. It seems like Mexican teams are very generous with their official attendance numbers too.
I'm sure they gave season ticket holders tickets. The only thing worse than being in Tijuana on a Tuesday night is trying to get to Tijuana on a Tuesday night. On a completely unrelated note, it looks like the Galaxy have opened up the berm seating for the LAFC game on the 31st.
Vancouver tarps off sections of their 27k lower bowl. They didn't this last weekend but have all other regular season games that I am aware of.
This will be the first time the galaxy have sold the berm since the seats were constructed on it. Even the Chargers only ever sold about 1/3 the seats up there out of concerns over whether the facility could handle it. Will be interesting to see if they sell all the seats up there or just what the chargers had. I think they sold some seats (I saw some, but not a lot, people up there) in new seats in the corner above LARS (138) for the opener and I bet they sell all of it for 3/31.
Looks like Columbus will be at the bottom of the attendance table. I guess we can than Andrew for that. Also a smallish crowd in New England.
Tonight's attendance @GilletteStadium: 13,305 #NEvCOL #NERevs— Sean Donahue (@SeanLDonahue) March 10, 2018
You can bet that Columbus will be using whatever stat they can to show as low attendance as possible and then some this season. Wouldn’t be surprised if they used turnstiles at exactly kickoff time eve if there’s a line to get in.
New England typically has terrible attendance early in the year, and picks up over the summer. Also, failure to make the playoffs and questionable personnel decisions have probably taken a toll. Also, the stadium is terrible for soccer. Columbus...take your pick.
Don't remember the Revs being so low in decent weather, even at start of season but maybe that's just perception? Wasn't this their home opener as well though?
Columbus's attendance should take a pretty pronounced dip this year with good reason. It has to be hard to support a team under those circumstances. I've seen arguments that the best thing the fans can do is support the team in droves, (mostly from Atlanta fans because of course) but that just seems like and ignorant solution to all this. As if selling out the venue consistently or something will change Precourt's mind. As if any potential investor wouldn't see that the lower numbers MIGHT have something to do with having an owner that's got one foot out the door and one middle finger still visible from the other side. It's a bad situation overall and I think it best to it treat as an outlier in all things.
Andrew? Are you talking about the Fire's owner here or am I missing something? At least here I know you're talking about the Fire's owner. I'm okay with this.
