He's in the U-17 camp, looks like he switched over.

Joey from USA Prospects on Twitter: "Michael Barragan been great with Atlas. Wanted by Mexico"

Edit: did a bunch of clicking through the Liga MX site and it appears Barragan is the only '02 to play for Atlas U17s. All the others have been '00s and '01s, including American-born Jose Adame and Sebastian Medina (both of whom have represented only Mexico YNTs). So Mexico can't be happy with Barragan accepting a US callup.

And he's back with our U17s for a camp beginning tomorrow.

Evidently the fight rages on -- he got another U17 callup:

The Mexican page above, by the way, has him as born in Arizona. I haven't been able to find out much more about him.

Interesting how he keeps switching between both federations to say the least... I can imagine he's weighing his options... Kinda reminds me of Luis Mártir particular case.... Mártir was called up by México U18, then switch to the US U20's...

Y'all know that didn't end up particularly well for Mártir himself, nor did it ended on a positive note for México or the US particular interests...

Funnily enough... Mártir started his career at Atlas, then made the switch to Chivas... It's pure conjecture he might have or might not, a better career with Atlas than Chivas... To be fair both clubs are a cesspool currently...

I'm sure he won't be the last one like this, either.

Martir was an unusual case, but his national team career has ended up to be kind of irrelevant. He turns (only!) 23 next month and he appears to be without a club. He got a pretty long look from Ramos during his U20 cycle, not just a cuppa coffee -- as many callups as EPB...

I guess that's the way it goes sometimes. Here's hoping he finds a way to keep at it, if he so desires.

Good to see him with our U17s again for their trip to Spain. I believe Barragan is a centerback, and our '02s are quite strong in a number of positions but not really that one, so that may be part of the equation for him.

He's a FB actually. I think he's also played as a winger even...

Yet again with the US U17s, so he's leaning toward us over Mexico.

No exactly a surprising omission from the U17s, but I wonder what exactly happened along the way. Did he get hurt? Retire? Forget how to tie his shoes? Barragan was at six consecutive U.S. camps this cycle through September 2018, then ... nothing.
