Maybe it is a good thing college soccer is heating up a bit and there is some increased competition for players and coaches.

We may also be seeing a generational change as coaches in roles for 20 years retire, become AD’s or possibly get pushed out such as at Pitt or Temple.

I wouldn’t say there should be more decommitments but if a player is a late bloomer and leads DA in goals per game the big teams will come calling and an early commitment may be at risk.

I hope so. A head coach in any sport shouldn’t be able to be in a job for two decades and never so much as sniff the NCAA tournament.

Makes a lot of sense, Fuller was a Gtown coach a while back, Weise is likely not leaving Gtown soon and Gill was going to be a HC somewhere...Good transition to a guy who has been there a year+ and brought in this year's recruiting class.

The percentage of DA kids in this year's class indicates they are pursuing kids who can play some serious soccer. I don't think Stanford, IU and Duke are worried Penn will take their top recruits but compared to other expensive schools, the Penn degree is a great reason to go there versus someplace else.

They should be competing closely for players with the #15-35 schools and win a fair amount among the families who prioritize education and soccer 1 and 1A.

I’m not a city person and even I’d take West Philly and the campus there over any of those other schools. The location really can’t be beat.

The Ivy league seems to be picking up in terms of good hires- Coach Smith at Cornell has improved Cornell's performance substantially. I expect Cornell will do even better this season. Coach Gill and Penn should do better as well. Not sure how Coach Bo will do with Dartmouth now that some key seniors have left. He's got a lot on his shoulders as Dartmouth has won it four years in a row and advanced to the tournament most of those years. Columbia too has lost their top scorer (Ivy league's top scorer), one of their best defenders and their best holding mid. Harvard has a lot of work to do as does Brown. It's going to be an exciting and interesting season.

Really?? When I was went to school there, the campus itself was fine, but the immediately adjoining area was not.

Below are the winners over the last 10 seasons. Over the last few seasons Columbia has done very well getting an at large bid this season to the NCAA tourney and winning a game. During the 2016 season Columbia shared a league title and just missed out on an at large. In 2015 they were 10-5-1 overall. Other than that Brown and Princeton are usually in the top 3 or 4 of the league.

    2008: Dartmouth, Penn
    2009: Harvard
    2010: Princeton
    2011: Brown, Dartmouth
    2012: Cornell
    2013: Penn
    2014: Princeton, Dartmouth
    2015: Dartmouth
    2016: Dartmouth, Columbia
    2017: Dartmouth

well I was just looking at 2016 vs 2017. 2016 was mainly with the previous coach's recruits so I consider that result "pre-Coach Smith". However I see your point. It's too early to say "improved substantially" - I think he has a very good shot at it this year though:

    Sorry- Hit "send" too soon.
I wanted to also say the coach Smith achieved his 2017 result with mostly an underclassman team (many of whom were just freshman actually). That's why I see his team doing much better this year.

TDS roster and commitments page suggests tart is onto something...13 underclass men and good 2018 and 2019 commits. Recruiting isn't a cure-all but it can be a good leading indicator of future performance.

How long ago was that? You need to go past 49th Street to find the not so great spots now.

Over 20 years ago. And yes, that would be a radical change. Just about anywhere in the 40s was highly questionable when I was there.

Don't forget that Harvard's best season (2016) was wiped out for discipline reasons.
