Looking forward to your birthday tomorrow, @joshsargent? 😏 #werder pic.twitter.com/Sl7whp6B5s— SV Werder Bremen EN (@werderbremen_en) February 19, 2018
You obviously haven't read this thread enough, or else you'd know way more about that than you wish you did.
From the article announcing his signing it appears to confirm that he will have to wait until the 2018/2019 season to play officially. "With the beginning of the season 2018/2019 Joshua Sargent is officially eligible to play for the team of head coach Florian Kohfeldt." Gleich zwei Gründe zu feiern für @joshsargent. Neben seinem Geburtstag, hat er heute auch seinen Profi-Vertrag bei #Werder unterschrieben. 📝 👉 https://t.co/iFoDp6bY6w pic.twitter.com/OZZxbWCDlH— SV Werder Bremen (@werderbremen) February 20, 2018
I don't think so. If he is ineligible for the first team, then I'd imagine he'd be ineligible for U23s/U19s barring friendlies.
Looking forward to seeing how many goals he scores for the U-19's or 2nd team..should give us a decent indicator of where he is at.
He needs games at some level for the next 3 months. Friendlies help but it’s sad if he can’t play in meaningless U19 official matches.
Not quite sure what they mean as he is no longer a minor, by most definitions. I'm going to go with what his dad tweeted out: He can only play in friendly’s this season because he turned 18 after the transfer window closed, Even with the 23’s— Jeff Sargent (@JeffSsarge64) February 20, 2018
OK let me try and top it lol. Can play in all u19 matches Can only play in first team and u23 friendlies
Bundesliga profile: https://www.bundesliga.com/en/news/...bout-werder-bremen-s-american-star-473898.jsp Sargent's parents, Jeff and Liane, both played soccer in college after growing up in greater St. Louis, which has long been established as one of the major hotbeds for the sport in the United States. Young Josh and his sisters were therefore exposed to the game growing up, and it wasn't long before the former started picturing his name in lights.
It would contradict previous situations if he cannot. The U19's next game is on Sunday at 5 AM ET vs Leipzig.
I'd say it's the opposite. Based on our established understanding of when players can begin to play in official games in Germany at any level, Sargent is likely not eligible for the rest of the current season.
You are correct: Unfortunately it applies to all the teams in thier league matches. He can play in Friendly’s with any team ,but there are not too many of them happening since the league is going on— Jeff Sargent (@JeffSsarge64) February 27, 2018
Another convoluted situation one of our youngsters has gotten themselves into? By the time this young man hits the field in a competitive match, he should be more than ready. Hoping for the best.
The Bundesliga needs a USL team whose sole purpose is signing US Youth internationals with inconveniently timed birthdays.
I guess I feel the opposite. I feel as though he should just keep practicing with the first team and play in friendlies. More time in front of the manager means more opportunity for the manager to develop him and gain trust in him to use him going forward.
Relevant. .@joshsargent is joining up with the first team today too! 👏 #werder pic.twitter.com/0t4r3wmOqG— SV Werder Bremen EN (@werderbremen_en) February 28, 2018
Kind of odd. Haji Wright and Taitague set the precedent on what needs to happen prior to going overseas to ensure you can play right away in Germany. Who’s the agent for Sargent?
