Draw of the Sudamerican Championship is next 1/3 in Chile . Chile as a host ( Group A ) and Brazil ( Group B ) as a current champion are seeded. Pot 1 : Colombia - Ecuador Pot 2 : Argentina - Paraguay Pot 3 : Uruguay - Venezuela Pot 4 : Bolivia - Peru The set of the pots is according to the position of the teams in the last Championship in Ecuador 2014. The tournament will be played in Chile ( 4-22 april ) Good luck girls !
Good to see some transparency for the 2018 group phase draw. For the previous edition of Ecuador 2014, somehow Peru+Uruguay+Venezuela were drawn into the host group: Ecuador (2014 host) Colombia (2010 sub-champion) + the other 3 Those 3 federations had the worst performing teams in the 2010 edition: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2010_South_American_Women's_Football_Championship#Final_ranking That 2014 group was a cake walk for Colombia. Host Ecuador managed to squeak through on goal differential: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2014_Copa_América_Femenina#Group_A More interesting, though, will be who gets to play 4 matches in a row, while both Brazil and host Chile get a rest date in-between.
I'm fed up with the same conmebol format in all the women's tournaments......probably Venezuela and Colombia won´t have a rest day like in 2014 Copa America femenina and like in the U20 South American Championship Ecuador 2018 "La mano de dios " will avoid Colombia in Chile´s group......
Draw is ready . Group A looks incredibly even. And in effect Colombia is in the Chile group, no a tricky draw as I suggested. Group B will have a good battle for the second place, since the first place is guaranted A) Chile Colombia Paraguay Uruguay Peru B) Brazil Ecuador Argentina Venezuela Bolivia
I think 2nd place in group B is probably fairly securely Argentina's place unless Castellanos can lift Venezuela up for a good challenge.
In the last Copa America 2014 . Ecuador beat Argentina and Venezuela in very even matches so I do not see it as easy for Argentina.
Ecuador also hosted the last Copa America - the last two, in fact. Results for them were slightly inflated. Before last year, Ecuador had never placed higher than 4th and hadn't even made the final four for three tournaments running.
We are talking about squads that should use professional players. If I recall correctly, Venezuela's former coach looked back at the 2014 edition, and concluded that it was a mistake to use players from amateur football / youth sides. Castellanos was used in the 2014 edition. As of 2018, she continues to play in amateur tournaments, as requirement for her scholarship. Hopefully, we will see several professional players during next April. Their professional leagues will be in full swing then.
True, but two things to consider: 1) I would wager that Castellanos is amateur in name only... VEN would be crazy to not carry her on the squad this April. 2) Just because VEN's league went professional last year doesn't mean their players all of a sudden got a level or three better than they were the previous year. It's still the same player pool.
I agree. Did everyone see the goals she scored in a training-match vs NWSL team Orlando Pride this week? They were posted on the FSU thread, maybe I'll retrieve them to post them here later. With her usual technique, she caught an NWSL-level GK out of her goal to lob her... twice! Seriously, I don't think a Venezuela NT at any level can do without Castellanos. Edit: here I am with the video. Actually, I didn't remember well, just one of those two goals was by Castellanos. Anyway, I guess my point stands. Re-posted from 2018 FSU thread (and originally from FSU Twitter): A look at two beautiful goals from Kaycie Tillman and Deyna Castellanos in the Orlando Pride scrimmage. #Noles pic.twitter.com/TElQS4BigH— FSU Soccer (@FSUSoccer) March 1, 2018
1) Just stating the competition level to which Castellanos has been exposed: UWS league. Regardless, Venezuelan press indicate that Castellanos will attend 2018 Copa America, after receiving permission from her university. 2) I refer to VEN professional players in European and South American leagues. They have done really well in the Colombian league. VEN's league has produced good players, even before it went professional on paper (2017).
List of the 22 players selected by Venezuela to participate in Copa América 2018. It is important to note that only one of the 22 players plays in the local tournament, the rest plays in Spanish and Colombian football mostly. The most notable absence is by Daniuska Rodriguez. Kika Romero and Veronica Herrera were not called either. The girls will meet from March 19 to April 4 at the National Center for High Performance in Margarita Island to fine tune his preparation for this important South American tournament in order to have the best performance.
What did happen to her? She was one of the most promising players at U-17 WWC 2014. Then she had an injury just before a Youth World Cup in 2016 (can't remember if it was U-17 once again or U-20), she had her recovery too much rushed to make the roster, and anyway, when she made it, she didn't play a single minute of that tournament (that she probably wasn't actually ready for). What happened next? Any clue?
There has not been anything left in the press. We can only guess a little. After her injury, despite having brilliant opportunities in the good handling of the ball, Daniuska's performance was not as expected in the South American u20 Championship Ecuador 2018. Maybe that's the factor of not being in the roster. Daniuska is only 19 years old, she was a candidate for the Puskas Price in 2016, so she still has a promising future ahead of her. We will see what new information comes out. At least Deyna Castellanos will be accompanied by Gabriela Garcia. Hopefully they will achieve the same chemistry they had in the U17 WWC !
Tournament will be played at 2 cities, instead of 3. The Ovalle location will be dropped, as suggested by a Conmebol delegation: improper conditions of playing surface. Corresponding games will move to the remaining beach cities of La Serena and Coquimbo. The Chilean committee responsible for Women's CA 2018 stated that installation of a running track had generated harmful runoff onto the grass. However, photos do not support such explanation. Chile had similar trouble during the Men's U17 tourney in 2017, where it was determined that a new landscaping company had damaged the pitch. Some games had to be moved to an alternate location. pitch conditions at Ovalle (Move your mouse to reveal the content) pitch conditions at Ovalle (open) pitch conditions at Ovalle (close) Sources (Move your mouse to reveal the content) Sources (open) Sources (close) http://www.diarioeldia.cl/deportes/organizacion-copa-america-femenina-baja-ovalle-como-sede-torneo Previous 2017 incident - http://www2.latercera.com/noticia/directora-ind-afirma-la-cancha-del-fiscal-talca-esta-70/
