Ya gotta buy your kids that trophy! Make sure they know they are the elite. It's a great life lesson for the kids...mommy and daddy will make sure good things happen for you!
Careful what you wish for. Look up Maximillien Robespierre. You may think you are protected by the crowd....until the crowd picks you out.
I never understood the point of these big foreign clubs satellite academies. I don’t know of any American born players who hailed from any of them. At least not any that graduated to the senior teams. In the end it’s just a prestigious name that doesn’t amount to much.
Well yeah ok but that defeats the purposes of the precious academy that everyone thinks is the second coming..
Once again, brother - my fondest hope is that USSF will start focusing more on the base, rather than exclusively on the spigot - which strategy has not precisely paid real dividends for the game in the US. I am not terribly hopeful, because of the undeniable allure of the big-time as opposed to the heavy lifting necessary to build up from the bottom, but hey - a guy can dream!
It’s good that former MLS players are landing jobs in coaching with the league or on the youth levels. For Victor especially, he may have a lot to offer youngsters. As a rule most youth academies don’t turn out too many pros but either way, he has a job and that is a great thing for a 35 year old.
Like an amiable Sasquatch or Cookie Monster. (I would soak up all knowledge from him if I was a rather aggressive kid defender, as I was for so many years).
"Muma" Bernárdez buscó la ayuda de Chelato y este no dudó en "hacerle el paro". ¿A cambio de qué? Te dejamos los DIEZ-Comics. :v pic.twitter.com/UTFXHeAYUl— Diario Diez (@DiarioDiezHn) February 24, 2018
So I stopped at Smoking Pig by Avaya to have lunch today and sat at the Bar to eat (no brews). Looked around and saw Muma sitting and having a meal. Let him finish his meal and as he walked by I told him talks for being an Earthquake. We spoke (Spanish). He mentioned the Liverpool job and that he was at the Earthquakes training. His family is here and he said he's staying in the area for sure!
Impression I got was he's was staying in the Bay Area and working the Liverpool job. And staying in touch with the Quakes.
I have nothing but fond memories of AYSO, and would certainly recommend it for the vast majority of kids wanting to the play the game versus ponying up for club teams. This was quite some time ago now, but I was a teenager by the time I really learned about and understood club teams. I ended up joining one mostly to stay fit for the junior high and high school seasons, and have nothing really good to say about it. It mostly felt like a spitting content between clubs, as there was always a club with more money and better players than yours, making the tournaments especially grueling and really broke my passion for playing. The amount of money spent and the time commitment was absolutely not worth it, especially since it wasn't like there was possible advancement for me simply by playing club. The pool of players is so big that the odds of getting noticed were practically nonexistent. My hope is that through MLS and USL affiliations, youth players with real promise can start getting more professional training without having to pay out the nose for it, and leave those of us with no hope of ever playing at a truly high level to school sports programs and recreational leagues. Running youth soccer as a business just does not sit right with me at all.
It would be nice if the Quakes could somehow form a pipeline with players from Liverpool. They could even make it something that the Spurs -Quakes partnership never had...
I have to say I was extremely pleased at the recognition the Quakes gave Big Vic before tonight's game, and watching Ockford play defense made me wish we had kept Big Vic as backup for our CB's.
I wouldn’t hold my breath. Barcelona has had an “academy” in this area for a few years, and of course Sporting has had a presence here for generations. These academies exist for one reason and one reason only: To make money from parents with stars in their eyes and shit-for-brains.
