Farfan has been disappointing in preseason.

I know he's young, I know he's new to the team, and I know it's preseaon, but I still expected Barco to stand out a little bit more.

He's also not good. Very little creativity, comes from having rather poor technical ability and a rather average understanding of the game. But he's versatile, good attitude, strong, works hard, was developed in a good academy, so he must be good.

He had no business winning the ROY, and had no business playing last year over Carleton. He was carried by Almiron, Vasquez, Asad, Vilalba into decent stats with rather poor play. Carleton was better in preseason than Gressel, neither had any pro games coming into last season.

It was my mistake responding to your post. I saw Dave's post, and I was going to respond to it with my opinion, but after I saw you post something I disagreed with, I responded to your post. I usually try to avoid argument's with fans of teams these players play for. I know they are backing their team, and there's no problem with that.

But that doesn't mean you are right. You are putting forth a lot of cliches, but this should be looked at from an analytical perspective, not a dumb cliche standpoint. We hear the same things every year about players having to earn minutes, and very often players who have earned minutes don't get them. Man City signed a reserve team player from SKC. We have game tape on Ebobisse going back years, and I think we should use that to decide when he's ready for minutes. He has always been pretty good, and some of the things you claim, I just don't agree with. He got limited minutes last season, and produced well in those minutes. One would reason that he should get even more minutes this season.

And if that was the case and he was going to get a fair shot, maybe Portland moves Adi out. Instead, they strengthen the competition for Ebobisse at back up CF, something that logically makes little sense, if Ebobisse factors into their CF decision making, at all. This is the new MLS way though, so I'm not surprised. If you can get a guy into your team who has a decent European resume and is younger than 30, you'll now get a lot of respect within MLS.

Tata makes me so mad. The ATL fans slobber his knob all the time too. Just.. ugh. I live in Atlanta and am a season ticket but it's hard for me to like the team at all.

Is that you yelling out "We want Andrew?"

Also, what the hell has Tata been so great at? Taking the most expensive team every assembled to finish third in the eastern conference and stunt the development of one of the greatest American youth prospects we've seen? Running his expensive players into the ground? If you're not gonna play them, then stop hoarding them FFS. He obviously has no intention of ever playing Carleton.

This is a team that could've broken MLS and the way it functions. If they combined these expensive players with talented homegrowns, that would've been the greatest combo of players to bypass the salary cap.

But no, Tata is too dense, and it was handed to him on a god damn platter.

Goslin's lack of PT this preseason is also ridiculous. Why does Chris McCann play over him?

Like seriously both him and pareja let the preseason championship hype cloud their ********ing judgment. Although Tata is showing it's more of him being a pussy and not taking chances. /semi irrational rant

    Kevin Kratz the final sub.

Carleton has played 20 minutes in the first three preseason matches.

I love these announcers. They don't even realize how much they're pissing me off. In consecutive thoughts:

"There's just something connecting when a player from the local community plays for the team"
"It was Chris McCann's giveaway that lead to the goal"
"Here comes Kevin Kratz off the bench"

If this was a basic logic class, and you read the first two sentences, how does that lead to the third sentence.

Also, sweet Barco goal. Maybe let Carleton play over Gressel and we'll see that type of talent on both sides of the field.

Back to USL AC and Goslin go... I'm sure in a couple years we'll see Garza resigned to a 5 year contract and Bello will waste away too. And oh yeah Kunga, good luck to him but he will never play either.

Once Barco gets shipped away the lord and saint Darren Eales and "Mr. US Soccer" Carlos Bocanegra will hop on FM and find the next South American wonderkid and buy him for $30 million. Carleton will continue to be Atlanta's water boy for the next 20 years.

Peter Vermes gave a 15-year-old more minutes in preseason that Tata gave Carleton.

And I should also mention, has Kunga even played this preseason? I think if he was playing for Chicago or Orlando, people might ask why he hasn't played yet. I think he could be a decent back up this season in MLS. Herrera and Saucedo from that same U-20 team are likely to play some role in MLS this season, Trusty might, as well. Or if he's not ready to be a back up, he could get some preliminary MLS minutes, and play mostly with the reserve team. But he probably won't play at all with the first team.

The only thing I can think of is Tata has already resigned Carleton and Goslin to USL, so he doesn’t even want to take a look at them. Has anyone seen a coach that rotates less than Tata? Very frustrating.

Carleton is a microcosm of what’s wrong with opportunities in MLS for youth domestics. Can’t wait for all the posters that’ll defend ATL and MLS with the tried and true: “kids have to EARN playing time”.

I am a fan of Portland, yes. All that makes me is more knowledgeable about Portland than any other club, hence why I comment about them rather than young Americans on other teams. I have no ill will toward Ebobisse, just like I have no good will toward Farfan. They need to earn their time. One is, one isn't. If the situation was reversed, I'd be expecting Ebobisse to get time, not Farfan. I don't care who deserves to play, only that deserving players get their opportunities to play.

What a player does in the past doesn't matter one bit. All that is good for is to get noticed in the first place. Players must constantly prove themselves or risk falling behind someone else. That's the way of the world.

And, yes, we clearly disagree on whether Ebobisse played well last year (flashes, yes, but missing important tools), but as we won't be agreeing, I see no reason to continue on that tangent.

All this said, ever though I am not a fan of any other club, I want all this of every other American player. I want players who work to become worthy of minutes to get them. I was happy that Reggie Cannon got to start tonight in the CCL and disappointed that Pomykal did not even make the bench (although there are apparently some injury issues there). I might feel that way about Servania or Ferriera (also coming back from injury) before long, especially Ferreira considering the play of the attacking four for FC Dallas tonight.

I feel the same way about European players. Haji Wright had to get loaned out for minutes, which, according to his current coach, are hard to come by because he isn't doing what he needs to do to become the player he needs to become. He gets spot minutes and spot starts because of it. Schalke didn't play him because he wouldn't help the team, so they loaned him down a division. He's getting little time now, because he is still not making a difference. McKennie, on the other hand, has been helping the team, even with rough patches and occasional mistakes. That is why he, prior to injury, got time and Wright didn't.

I know you have your own opinions, and aren't interested in mine. That's fine. But for your own education, please sign up to coach a team, or at the very least have a conversation with some professional coaches about some of the things you are saying.

Oh, and Mix Diskerud got signed by Man City as well, so probably not your best choice of an example there, even though I would certainly agree with the fact that Palmer-Brown earned more minutes than he received at SKC.

    I'm done.

Atlanta played 16 players today. Parkhurst didn't play and the back up keeper didn't play. I think that's their 18 for the first game. Carleton, Vazquez and Goslin probably won't make the 18, IMO.

I feel bad quoting a small tidbit from a large and thought out post, but it's well documented that Mix moving to "Man City" is really his contract being reassigned within CFG to earn NYCFC more cap space.
