There are no owners allowed in German football. Due to the 50+1 rule a club must hold the majority of its voting rights, which ultimately boils down to the members electing the presidium as well as the supervisory board. Shortly after Bayern president Uli Hoeneß returned from fooling around in the showers of Landsberg Prison while doing time for tax fraud, the general assembly of club members re-elected him to his old position. Go figure!

As it seems, Uli Hoeneß might not be a bad guy per se. Numerous players have referred to him as kind of a father figure. I've heard similar positive sentiments from members of Bayern's medical staff, that I'm acquainted with. You might have read the story about him calling a radio show during one of his day releases from prison, donating €10,000 for people in need three days before Christmas in return for a requested song. Yeah well, that's nice but when one stashes away up to €400 million in secret accounts, according to estimates from Swiss bankers, that very public donation of a few thousand euros becomes nothing but a PR stunt. My impression of Hoeneß is that of a benevolent Mafia don, who takes care of his subordinate mobsters while buying the community's sympathies with a few bread crumbs. But he also won't hesitate to stick firecrackers into the lederhosen of those who dare to oppose him.

I couldn’t think of his name at first either. Hadn’t seen him in a minute. Romania and Galatasaray legend. He had an amazing WC in 94.
