That was kind of my pet theory as well. I think he’ll be fine as a backup for Morata and prove to be more reliable than Michy for the rest of the season and next, but hope the club know what they’ve done buying an aging striker at what seems like a bit of premium (although if the 50M that is being reported now is accurate, Palmieri/Dzeko valued at 25/25 or 30/20 isn’t so bad)

I think the club's strategy was to sign Carrol until he got hurt

Dzeko will want a 3 or 4 year deal. Is that worth it just to give Conte someone he kinda, maybe trusts over Michy? We didn't give longer deals to Terry or Lampard and we have several 30 year old players due for new contracts soon.

I'd avoid Dzeko and stick to our guns. Find diamonds in the rough as we have to now. City are richer than we are. As are United, PSG, Madrid, and Barca. And Munich.

Kenedy officially loaned to Newcastle until the end of the season. No option to buy. Imagine this means a Palmieri announcement is imminent

So Sanchez goes to Utd, Arsenal roping in Auba and Chelsea still looking at Crouch! Thank God now they are linked to Dzeko. What is Conte up to?

He's ready leave cause we're targeting the Andy Carrols and Peter Crouchs of the world instead of actual talent.

Interesting to see how willing the club is to break our own policy on 30+ year old players to satisfy Conte's need for a true target man.

If getting Dzeko, who's 31, on a multi-year deal is a better alternative to actually instilling confidence into Michy or adjusting the system to better suiting our personnel, then I must be missing something here.

I respect our board for not destroying our wage structure over Sanchez and not overpaying for someone we do not need in Auba.

The only thing I'd like to see us do is throw a FAT bid at Atleti for Griez or Juve for Dybala.

I don't see Dzeko as making us that much better; not compared to the unrest it would cause amongst squad and supporters. I don't see a need to blow up our system for a player on the downslide. A loan? Sure.

As for Dybala or Griezz, yeah, never going to happen.

    Precisely what I'm saying.

Also - that was more to make the point that the board clear as day is trying to satisfy Conte w/ the Dzeko signing despite my feeling that its pretty unreasonable.

If it's the difference between alienating Conte and making him want to leave vs him renewing for another 2 years, does that change your opinion?

I'm torn personally. Love Conte, he's exactly what we needed at the time. Not convinced he's exactly what we need long-term though.

define "long term." he's already outlasted the average Chelsea manager since Roman bought the club. Jose, Ancelotti, Conte.

The problems Chelsea has is like Groundhog Day.....win with a new manager > loan/sell youth/sign nobody > suck the 2nd year/exhaust players > fire manager. Rinse and repeat.

Except that part of that list is win league with new manager. Many clubs would kill to have those problems.

I would rather have this rollercoaster ride than bounce around between 2nd and 6th place year in year out.

Yeah, I don't see that happening anytime soon with us being prudent and the Manchester clubs getting stable and constantly ugrading.

True, but for how long? It's not a sustainable model.
