and the Mid Atlantic is now apparently up to 6:

Northern Virginia United FC Joins the NPSL

NPSL is proud to announce that Northern Virginia United FC (Leesburg, VA), has joined the league as an expansion team. The club will compete in the Northeast Region’s Mid-Atlantic Conference.

“We are thrilled to add another NPSL team in Virginia,” NPSL Chairman Joe Barone commented. “Our Mid-Atlantic Conference continues to grow and our fans and supporters should be very excited about Northern Virginia United.”

The leadership of Northern Virginia United includes President Liam Hogan and General Manager/Vice President Chris Welsh.

Hogan has dreamed of starting an NPSL team since he was 17 years old. He has been involved as a player in the area for his entire life, including as a member of the first-ever boys Loudoun Soccer Club team to win a VYSA State Cup. His firsthand perspective as a player in the region will be a major asset in leading Northern Virginia United.

Welsh is an experienced coach with experience at BW Advanced Soccer and BRYC. He assisted with the BRYC 99 team that won a national championship and regularly works with U-12 through U-18 BRYC players that aspire to play in college. He holds the USSF “E” and “F” licenses and is currently working towards a “D” license. He was a U-19 State Cup winner, played collegiately at both VCU and Wofford, and was an All-Met selection by The Washington Post after his senior season at Battlefield High School. He also played in the Livingston F.C. Pro Academy from U-12 through U-14.

“We hope the addition of our club in Northern Virginia will supplement the existing NPSL Mid-Atlantic Conference and provide another quality opponent in the already talented conference,” Hogan added. “We are also centrally located which is great for travel logistics. Beyond that, Northern Virginia United hopes to capture the attention of fans in one of the strongest soccer markets in the country while promoting the increasingly common vision of improving American soccer by growing the game in a sustainable way from the local community level and up. Over the next few years we also plan to have the club transition to becoming partially supporter-owned, which will allow the people who make the club possible to have a meaningful voice.”

Home matches will be played at Cropp Metcalfe Park at Evergreen Sportsplex in Leesburg, Virginia. The 1,300-seat stadium features a FIFA One Star certified playing surface. The stadium has a center concourse which features several flat screen televisions, comfortable seating, a sports store, and a restaurant. It also has a spacious second-tier party deck and skybox.

“The expectation for our inaugural season is that we will lay a strong foundation and establish meaningful relationships by offering a memorable and exciting matchday experience which we believe will be critical for the club to experience sustainable growth,” Hogan continued. “We also expect to field a team that plays with passion and style while fighting for every inch.”

More information about the club can be found at northernvirginiaunited.com or by following the club on Instagram (@NVUFC), Facebook (@nvufc), and Twitter (@NVUFC).

“We feel that the NPSL is a natural fit for Northern Virginia United since the league has consistently been adding new clubs with similar visions for growing soccer in America by strengthening communities through the game and working to offer more valuable opportunities to deserving players with the ultimate hope of seeing the U.S. Men's National Team win the World Cup,” Hogan concluded.

Saint Louis Club Atletico Joins the NPSL
NPSL is proud to announce that Saint Louis Club Atletico (St. Louis, MO) has joined the league as an expansion team. The club will compete in the South Region’s Heartland Conference.

“We are very excited that the NPSL is coming to St. Louis,” NPSL Chairman Joe Barone commented. “The city has such a long and storied history in the American game and we are happy for the NPSL to be involved in such an exciting venture. This will be a great story for the St. Louis community and the entire region.”

The ownership group of Saint Louis Club Atletico (STLCA) is led by President Jim Krupp, General Manager/Head Coach Ricardo Garza, and Chris Burke.

Krupp is a former collegiate soccer player who is actively involved in coaching teams and administratively organizing and operating a multicultural inner-city soccer non-profit organization.

Garza is the founder of STLCA, which also goes by the nickname of the Bluebirds. He helped launch a collegiate soccer program at Jefferson College in 2005, earning a .900 winning percentage after eight seasons and bringing the program to national recognition each season. Garza has been named Coach of the Year numerous times and won conference, regional, and national championships throughout his career. Garza also co-founded soccer academies in South America and Africa, but he felt it was time for a new platform to be built in his hometown to provide more opportunities for young players committed to pursuing a professional career path. His vision is to help amateur players gain professional identification domestically and internationally and move on from STLCA to pursue their dreams at the next level.

“We appreciate the organization and leadership style of the NPSL,” Garza added. “We want to represent our city in the playoffs and show the league we will be a strong contender for years to come.”

Burke was recently added to the ownership group and will bring a certain value and leadership to the franchise. Through 32 years the Burkes have embraced the entrepreneurial spirit through business ownership and in 2000 a new journey emerged into the world of soccer via their daughters Ava Isabel and Vivian. Today their love of the game will continue with an ownership interest in Saint Louis Club Atletico.

Krupp and Garza consulted with numerous managers, scouts, and coaches from South American countries while they were in Bolivia hosting a College ID camp (collegeidprogram.com). What they concluded on the trip was that American soccer culture needs an upgrade if the country wants to consistently compete well on the global stage. Krupp and Garza want to be a part of the solution to improving the American soccer culture, and they believe that the NPSL is playing a big part in positively contributing to this soccer culture puzzle. Their top priority of launching a new team is to bring high-level soccer back to the city of St. Louis.

“Our venue is in historic soccer-rich South St. Louis at St. Mary’s Stadium,” Garza concluded. “It has a seating capacity of 1,500, a dual-fiber artificial turf playing surface, and locker rooms. We are bringing soccer back to an area filled with tradition.”

More information about the club can be found at www.stlclubatletico.com or by following the club on Instagram (@stlclubatletico), Facebook (@stlclubatletico), and Twitter (@stlclubatletico). An app is also available on iTunes and the Google Play Store by searching for “Stl Club Atletico.”

Charlottesville Alliance FC Joins the NPSL
NPSL is proud to announce that Charlottesville Alliance FC (Charlottesville, VA), has joined the league as an expansion team. The club will compete in the Northeast Region’s Mid-Atlantic Conference.

“We are very excited to bring the NPSL to Charlottesville,” NPSL Chairman Joe Barone commented. “Virginia has always had a great history within the beautiful game and we’re confident that Charlottesville Alliance FC can add a great deal to that impressive legacy.”

The roots of Charlottesville Alliance FC were formed when the team, then named Aromas Café FC, made a highly-successful run in the 2014/15 U.S. Open Cup. The team was made up of players from over 10 different countries, a reflection of the rich diversity of the Charlottesville community. The team expanded this experience to extensive community outreach – a soccer team with a social conscience. They have purchased soccer goals for in-need communities, mentored youth, played charity games, conducted free clinics, and even played soccer with incarcerated youths inside the local detention center. Community, diversity, and fun are the tenets of the team’s values.

CAFC, which is a 501 (c)(3) organization, is led by Executive Director David Deaton and a core staff that includes local professionals, business owners, and ex-collegiate and professional soccer players.

“Our goal in the first year of launching the organization is to build a community asset, one that is competitive on the field, but equally important, one that uses soccer as a vehicle for unity and camaraderie,” Deaton added. “We plan to assemble a team, fan base, and community partners who believe in this vision. There will be opportunities for fans to meet and engage with coaches and players through community town halls, pre-game celebrations, and fundraising events.”

Home matches will be played at Charlottesville High School, which is located in the heart of the city. The stadium features a professional turf field, seating for 2,000, and ample parking.

“Charlottesville Alliance FC brings a passionate fan-base and high-quality player pool to the conference,” Deaton continued. “The city of Charlottesville has the largest concentration of soccer players per capita in the state, with players competing at some of highest calibers of play across the country. Our team will enhance the quality of soccer for players and fans.”

More information about the club can be found at www.cvillealliancefc.org or by following the club on Instagram (@cvillealliancefc), Facebook (@cvillealliancefc), and Twitter (@Cville_Alliance).

“The NPSL has a strong national reputation and as a member-owned league, the personalities of each club are encouraged,” Deaton concluded. “For us, we are focused on building a community asset and driving social change. The NPSL provided us that platform.”

Miami FC 2 Joins the NPSL

As The Miami FC prepares to enter into its third season of play later this summer, the club announced on Wednesday the creation of Miami FC 2, which will enter the National Premier Soccer League for the 2018 season.

“The Miami Football Club is proud to unveil Miami FC 2, which will be ready to play in the upcoming NPSL season,” said Sean Flynn, CEO, The Miami FC. “Our players and coaches are excited to get back on the field, and the NPSL schedule allows us to face some quality competition in the Sunshine Conference throughout the next few months.”

Recently, the NASL announced its intentions to postpone the beginning of the 2018 season until August, in order to align play with the global soccer calendar. Once the NASL season became delayed, Sean Flynn saw an opportunity to create Miami FC 2 and allow Miami FC’s players to compete in matches rather than simply train for the next few months.

"Miami FC 2 is a great addition to the Sunshine Conference and an instant rival to our existing Members in Florida,” NPSL Chairman Joe Barone commented. “As an organization they bring a high level of notoriety and professionalism, and we are excited to welcome them to the NPSL.”

The seven team Sunshine Conference will be comprised of Miami FC 2, Miami United FC (Hialeah), Beaches FC (Stuart), Boca Raton FC, Naples United FC, Storm FC (Fort Lauderdale) and Jacksonville Armada U-23. Miami FC 2 is planning to play its home matches at St. Thomas University in Miami Gardens, the training home for The Miami FC since its inception in 2016.

“We are thrilled to have Miami FC 2 play its home matches at St. Thomas University,” Flynn continued. “The school and administration have been wonderful hosts to our club since we began play, and Riccardo Silva’s donation of stadium lights to the field last year will allow us to play our games in the evening, when the majority of our fans can attend. The setting will be intimate and seats will practically be on the pitch, so we are looking forward to a unique and fan-friendly experience for our fans and supporters.”

A full NPSL schedule for Miami FC 2, along with ticketing information, will be announced in the coming days. For more information on The Miami FC and Miami FC 2, go to MiamiFC.com, call 844-MIAMIFC and follow us @TheMiamiFC

NPSL is proud to announce that F.C. Golden State (Los Angeles, CA) has joined the league as an expansion team. The club will compete in the West Region’s Southwest Conference.

“We are excited to see the West Region continue to expand with F.C. Golden State in the Greater Los Angeles market,” NPSL Chairman Joe Barone commented. “It’s wonderful to see the NPSL continue to attract such strong organizations as additions to its current footprint in Southern California.”

The leadership of the team will include Director of Football Alex Lujan and Head Coach Robert Friedland.

“We have a reputation for running a professional level program and fielding high quality teams,” Lujan added. “We believe this league will allow us to do so earlier in the year with a longer season kicking off in March.”

FCGS will play home games at Rio Hondo College in Whittier, CA. The soccer-specific facility has recently installed a new full-sized artificial playing surface to complement its existing amenities.

“Our goal is to compete with the talented teams in the West Region and hopefully have the opportunity to be playing in mid-to-late July in the playoffs,” Friedland concluded.

More information about the club can be found at www.FCGoldenState.com or by following the club on Facebook (@FCGoldenState) and Twitter (@fcgoldenstate).

got word tonight that the @kitsap_pumas are folding after nine seasons. Coach Liviu Bird said owner Robin Waite made final decision before the final game this season. "A decade was a decent run," Bird said. By the end, team struggled to attract fans/players.
