Well Greg should have played them both in a 3-5-2 perhaps but we know he is reluctant to deviate from a single striker Formation until late next n the gm when trailing

I still think Kei is a better fit for the style GB wants to play.

I believe Gregg, when talking about Zardes, said he sees him as a striker with plenty of upside still......so that's that.

Don't know if anyone else mentioned it but we in the 3rd round, we drafted Wake Forest winger Luis Argudo.

    So for this year's draft....

    Ben Lundgaard - GK
    Edward Opoku - Winger/Forward
    Luis Argudo - Winger

Jake Rozhansky - CM/DM (accept hes already signed a deal in Israel but we have his MLS rights).

So I guess we prepared for the worst with Meram. We now have Meram, Santos, Grella, Hansen, Martinez, Jimenez, Opoku, and Argudo as wing options. That's good and all but we now only have a serviceable, at best, option in Jahn, and a severely out of form Galaxy reject I'm Zardes. I dont dislike the Zardes acquisition and would love for him to prove his doubters wrong.....but it would be reckless to enter this season with no proven, reliable starting striker......yet I could totally see that happening.

I expected us to grab at least one DM, like Chris Lema or some one for depth in the draft. We only have Abu to back up both Artur and Trapp. Are we going to waste an international spot on a reserve CDM, who rarely if ever actually plays?

Obviously there's still moves to be made but some of the choices just seem odd. I do like the Grella and Kempin signings though and this Sosa dude could wind up being the future of this team.

Just perusing transfer rumors at 4 AM (I work night shift) and was reading about how LA Galaxy were interested in striker Rodrigo Aguirre, 22, from Uruguay who is under contract with Udinese but has spent most of his time on loan, most recently at Nacional in Uruguay where he had 14 goals in 33 appearances.

Since they acquired Ola Kamara from us, who is obviously a proven commodity and will undoubtedly start for them.....I'm kinda interested in this Aguirre dude. Young, but obviously capable with some upside. Montreal are apparently interested too.

Aguirre is a young U-23 international from Uruguay who has recently been scoring lots of goals ... so that would seem too good to be true for MLS... and so it is ... the reason why they seem keen on letting MLS pick him up, is most surely because he is Injury-prone and has knee problems..:

70% of his rights? I'm not sure I get this. I'm guessing it means that if the Crew sell him down the road, the old club gets 30% of that?

Yes, it would be Newell's and maybe even a prior club. He's too young for it to apply to him but there are some older players who have private investors who get a % of transfer fees.

Then you are in the slimy world of 3rd party ownership.

It’s not uncommon for teams to keep a % of a young player, especially in South America.

I've mentioned this elsewhere (queue three paragraph rumination from Chelsey on the state of social media and soccer dialogue), but I find this somewhat surprising.

I find myself in a glass half empty mindset on a lot of Crew transfer rumors because I can see many young and talented foreign players not wanting to totally uproot their career (and families if applicable) for a team that you have no idea where they will be playing in 10 months time. I would imagine this even more true for an in demand young player who could have multiple suitors. That all said, if Columbus is able to land this kid, credit to Berhalter.

Chelsey do your kids play for Canton United?

I was not a fan of the Ola deal (lopsided for Gals) nor using our 1st on a GK. Both poor.

I mean, who wouldn't be confident enterinf a season where your starting striker scored 2 goals last year & has no oroven backup? Plus, one starting winger didn't score at all and the other guy doesn't want to be here. What could go wrong?

We failed to score in 4 of 5 PO games & our O is worse. Carry on.

I'll be worried if we dont hear any talk of another striker signing soon. I'm cautiously optimistic about our wings though. Santos wasn't very productive stats wise last season but I think that will easily improve this season. I dont question Merams motivation even if he's requested a transfer. It was said hes "seeking a new challenge"....and I'm inclined to think that means trying a different league, not another MLS team where he may or may not start. I would guess he just sees now as a perfect time to jump off a potentially sinking ship as well as make some more money while hes at it, and I dont blame him. He loves this city and club though, so if we dont let him go, I'm sure he'll want to go out swinging. If he does leave, Grella is a reliable, proven immediate replacement, and our new attacking mid, Sosa, can play on the wing as well. I'm not too worried about that.

If we can snag Valenzuela, bring in a good proven striker or at least a young dude with legit potential and get some reassurance that Steffens not going anywhere.... I'll feel alright going into this season.

I assure all that I won't flood the thread with a bunch of players I like....

....but I also think Costa Rican striker Mayron George, currently on loan at Danish team Lyngby, from Randers, would be a great, realistic target for us. A large and fast striker who's form has been on the rise lately (6 goals in 8 appearances with Lyngby so far) who's on the fringes of the CR national team (3 appearances) and in his prime (24 years old). Coming to MLS would be a good next step in his development and allow him to be closer to his home country and national team, in a league with lots of fellow countrymen.

    /end of rant.

Don't worry. Our esteemed moderator has informed me a dozen times that the eventual MLS Cup Champions scored only one more playoff goal than us. You are looking at it all wrong. We got this. Sunshine Brigade, ************************.

    Meram wants out.
    FC Dallas wants Meram.
    We need another striker.
FC Dallas has the #1 allocation pick.
We trade Meram for the allocation pick and $500k in allocation money.
    We sign Rubin Rubio.
Everyone is happy except me because life is a meaningless void.

Meram acts as a super secret sleeper agent and periodically drives 3 hours to Austin to slash Scuttle's tires, and light flaming bags of poo outside Greely's hotel room door.

Years down the road after the Austin bid is dead, Meram somehow returns to the Crew as an all conquering hero. chr1st rejoices.
