A thread about Indy Eleven alums.

A starting point: Kyle Hyland entered as a sub and scored the winner in extra time in the US Open Cup OKC derby. (Woj also came on as a sub).

The biggest news about Kleberson in Fort Lauderdale seems to be that he became a US citizen in April.

Charlie Rugg is playing in the German 4th division with SV Eintracht Trier 05. He has scored 4 goals in 13 appearances there.

Brian Brown is also playing with the Charlotte Independence of the USL, and has scored 3 goals in 9 appearances.

I see that Kyle Hyland has already re-signed with OKC Energy (USL) for the 2017 season. He's one of three players re-signed at this point, so they must have been happy with his performance.

Spam. When I wrote a blog a bit over a decade ago, I got this kind of crap in comments all the time. There usually was a hidden link for something. They were usually in (broken) English, though.

Mares scored the opening goal for Miami today. Lacroix scored two for Orange Coubty last week.

    Dammit.

i'm glad to see him making a living. i'll always wonder whether he would have ended up in mls if he'd stayed for his last year at iu. he was a rock star at louisville for his first couple seasons. he transferred to iu after he blew out his knee, and he didn't have a great season. i think he got some looks at mls camps, but ended up signing with indy for the inaugural season.

With the NASL now down to two or three teams (effectively dead, in other words), I wonder what's going to happen to Dylan Mares?

Don Smart has signed with Miami FC 2 and will play in the NPSL this year. And he's too good for that.

Miami is hanging onto Dylan Mares, which is something of a disaster for him. He has improved in each year of his professional career, and he's now at what should be his peak years. Now he'll have to waste one of those peak years playing against vastly inferior talent. That's bound to stall his development.

it looks like the market disagreed with you.

Mares has had an interesting career, and he's had one setback after another. blew his knee at louisville after being an all-ACC freshman teamer. then he moved to IU and never really fit. he left IU early and signed with indy, eventually settling in and earning a move to miami on a big contract. now nasl has folded, and he'll be playing in the fourth tier semi-pro league. what's next? where would he be if he'd stayed at louisville all those years ago or even if he'd played his final year at iu after the transfer?

Nice pre-kickoff tribute tonight to Marco Franco, who is starting for Penn FC.

Paulo Junior was in the Penn FC starting lineup as well. Seems like a new addition for them.

I had forgotten that Paulo Junior played briefly in Indy last season. Glad to see he got a new gig (though he’s not as central to Indy’s history as Franco).

Could Dylan Mares come back to Indy? That would be amazing for the club, both on and off the field. Mares' talent was wasted in NPSL.

Where's Dylan Mares? Back in Indy through the end of the season. The announcement implies, though it does not affirmatively state, that this is a loan: Mares remains under contract to Miami FC, but, as the NPSL season is over, Miami has no need for him until next year. In any event, this is an important move, both for Mares (who is really too good for NPSL and whose game could not really develop against amateurs) and for Indy (which regains a tie to its founding and its one successful season, and which could use help in establishing a semblance of fluidity in moving the ball through the midfield).

Now that Dylan Mares is back with Indy, Zach Steinberger is off to NCFC on loan. Apparently, there is a limit to the number of people who played for Indy before 2018 allowed on the roster. Mares is definitely an upgrade, though. I'd wish Steinberger well, except that NCFC is among the teams the Eleven need to keep behind them in the playoff hunt.

Steinberger scored a brace in his first match for NCFC (one more goal than Indy managed vs. Atlanta), because of course he did.
