So we traded Ola because he wanted a raise & traded for a guy who makes more money. Essentially, we gave Ola's raise to Zardes. So glad we didn't pay Francis so we could pay $600k for a backup striker/winger or possible starting LB. We didn't get a pick (LA had 2 of the top 3). We got $400k in Garber bucks, some of which is offset by Zardes' higher salary, while Philly paid $1.3 mill for Accam. Look, I am fine with trading Ola, he wanted out. The haul is horrible. LA should have had to attach assets to get us to take Zardes off their hands, in addition to whatever Ola was worth. Has 3G ever won a trade?
Which, objectively, is true. We did have the better Kamara. I would fully expect a "Columbus reject" cheer for Ola. But since LA doesn't play here this season, the odds of that are slim. And for the record, I think it's a bad deal--but I am not surprised. I've seen this for decades supporting a team in a smaller city in Europe. The problem is that, in world soccer, contracts are pretty much meaningless these days. Heck, what we would call tampering is not only tolerated but seemingly encouraged at that level--as contracts for your next team are often negotiated before the current season is over. There's been a couple notable occasions of a player blowing a big Cup PK while playing his future team. When the big boys come a callin', your guy is usually on his way out. For my club, Netzer, Jupp Heynckes,Marcell Jansen, and ter Stegen were all born and raised in Moenchengladbach, but when the big boys wanted them, they were gone--contract or no contract.... And there were many other cases of players who came up in their (noted) youth system that the same thing happened with. I'm betting that Ola's agent essentially told the team that they had to trade him or risk getting nothing--which, sadly, is what we seem to have gotten.
Congratulations for being able to remember 2016. But I'm genuinely asking here -- did people really turn on him for wanting a raise? I certainly didn't. I'm sure SOME did, but not all. After the season he had, I'd have been looking for more money too. Regardless -- if you're going to have a contract hold-out, and the team winds up taking care of you, and you still decide to become a grumpy, locker-room-disrupting malcontent, then yeah -- fans are going to turn on you. And f*** anyone who has a problem with that. And as I once said, Andres Mendoza is an asshole. On his own, no -- Ola's not going to carry a team to a title. But guess what? Neither is Kei. He had one spectacular season where everything he touched turned to gold. But then he started reading his own press clippings and his own contract, and he got traded twice, and he's scored 24 goals in 61 games. A lot closer to normal. Ola, however has scored 34 goals (34 > 24) in 59 games (59 < 61). Agreed. Ola was great for us, but he's still not Giovinco or Bradley Wright-Phillips. I happen to think Zardes is overrated, and LA won the trade. But Zardes is still a good player that's going to be a good addition for us. But as much as you want to bag on Ola, he's scored as many regular season goals in the last two seasons as Zardes has in his five-year career.
I was unaware Kei fell out of favor with the fanbase. I have liked him since his first stint with Crew.
I will say this sentence once, and then you can burn this place. I would take Magic Simon Elliott over Viva Mendoza any day of the week. Four years ago my cousin ran into Elliott at a bar up in the Cleveland area. She had him sign some framed thing for my son. It was a really nice gesture with the acknowledgment I was never a fan of Magic. I would imagine that story would not have such a sweet nature about it if you trade Mendoza in and Simon out of that story.
I hope we sign Robbie Rogers too. That way our midfield can consist of three players (Rogers, Meram, Zardes) who sprint really fast down the field and then lose the ball in the box.
How could anybody be unhappy about eh Ola trade? Didn't we collect half a million dollars!!! We're even richer!
We need to invest more than 400k https://www.massivereport.com/2018/...d-turn-for-an-ola-kamara-replacement-mls-2018 In my opinion we need two strikers and get rid of Jahn . Here is a list of guys we won’t get but man if we signed Balotelli that would be huge ( Pipe dreams like Pulisic ) But we should at least get one younger striker i do like Rubio and think he is a good fit
Can Zardes do what Kei Kamara did? I’ve always thought Zardes was more of a outside attacking midfielder. When he had others creating him chances in LA he scored a bunch of goals not that long ago. When the talent level dropped his production dropped because he got less chances and maybe Gregg did one of his famous PowerPoints and figures Zardes expected goals is worth the trade. I hope we get another striker and Zardes is our first attacking sub kinda like Manneh was. If we don’t get another striker to keep Jahn off the pitch and push him to third string then I will regret getttibg season tickets. We also need 2 leftbacks and we better not sell Steffen and we should give him a raise and extension very soon. We all know AP is cheap and that’s why we got rid of both Kamara & Kamara. Kei was just villianized as smokescreen and he loved Columbus and wanted to play for the Crew. ******** anyone on this board who doesn’t get it still. Precourt is a bitch and we should have made it work with Kei and Higuain before and even after things escalated. We should have had both Kamaras on the pitch even if Ola was the late sub in a 2 striker formation. Again Higuain is a very good player but he is not and should not be out top playmaker. We need someone even better. Unless he would have brought his brother it seems we would rather have a lower level DP like Higuain for one reason and that is ....... AP is cheap and Gregg is prob working miracles with a bullshit budget and doing a good job of keeping his mouth shut about his boss.
I have two strikers for you from the Danish Superliga, both of them have done well in the past, but then, (like Fanendo Adi who now play in MLS) moved to FC København where their career got derailed, simply because they have plenty of good expensive strikers and so you only get few games to prove your worth or you are out .. which has just happened to their Austrian striker Martin Pušić, who was Danish Superliga top-scorer back in 2014–15, playing for FC Midtjylland before being sold to FCK, but now has been left out of their training camp and been told to find himself a new club. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Martin_Pušić It should be said that he is earning at least around $500k a year at FCK, as just about all their players do as a minimum... but he has turned 30 and need to find a new club, so I guess you could get him to play for less now. Another posibility is the German striker Marvin Pourié who was put on sale by Randers along with Perry Kitchen ... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marvin_Pourié Yet another striker who has done well in the past but did not quite make it at FC København, but I think he would be a great and not all too expensive signing by MLS ... He signed a 2-year contract with Randers 8. August 2016, so they can hardly get more than "small change" when they sell him now ... as for his wages, I don't really know, but my guess would be around $300k a year. ... he's rather selfish though and can be an ill-tempered loudmouth, like a "Zlatan Ibrahimović" kind of guy,.. and he is unhappy and want to leave Randers which is also why they want to get rid of him, considering that they have enough problems on their hand as it is...
The fact that Ola Kamara scored 34 goals in less than two full seasons, and you still think you should be a late game sub tells me all I need to know about your opinion.
I applaud your effort. This animated gif is humorous. Unfortunately, I think it paints an unfair joke on Hang. After all he is the current realest fan and not a superfan. The distinction may not be readily apparent, but the differences are as wide as when Moses parted the Red Sea.
My dear old friend that is a fine enough edit. I added the biblical part for Hang. I still look so fondly on winning the lottery for tRR. What a difference between him and that Medusa kid we won a few years prior.
I have to give GB credit for finding Kamara and developing him in the first place. When we first announced his signing I was underwhelmed. I figured he would fade out of the team or league in a season or two. He was surprisingly good and produced. I dont like this trade but if you told me 2 years ago before I saw Kamara play we would get 400k and Zardes for him I would have said yes.
