I wonder how much the RFO is involved in all these moving parts. If they are helping set all these moves, then I am impressed with their ability to play chess vs checkers that we are used to seeing. Identification of a target and then finding a way to get them here just is so non-Rapids I don't know what to do. Perhaps the sky is now yellow and Colorado has ocean front property. The world just doesn't make sense.
... OMFG, Edu. I'd say "don't be a buzz-kill", but there is just too much historical evidence pointing to this very distinct possibility.
I like the chess vs. checkers analogy... or maybe moving from 2-Dimensional thinking to 3-D thinking. Would be encouraging either way and a shock to our system after being mired in the lackluster Brav(ad)o approach for so many years. Wondering if there's a way to find out exactly to what extent the RFO was involved in finding a way to make the transfers happen after the fact (assuming any of them happen, that is... big assumption, I know). I mentioned Zat and Edu for your benefit to get the blood pressure going in case you didn't have your coffee today. Could also mention several other savior superstar hires (as professed by the prior RFO group in PR releases at time of transfers), but wouldn't want to send anyone into cardiac arrest. Bravo sure had some dandies. Sidenote - I'm still convinced I could out-run Edu in the 40... even if I had two pulled hamstrings and lived on a Ruffles & chip dip diet for two months straight (ie, more/less my current condition).
Superdraft tomorrow (at least the first 2 rounds). We have the 2nd and 4th pick in the 2nd round, no 1st round pick (sent to Montreal in the Miller trade). In case you're wondering, the last time an above average MLS player was picked after the first round was Plata in the 2nd round in 2011. 2010 had Ream, Sinovic, and Morrow in the 2nd round. Since then the players after the first round have been essentially replacement level MLS players at best (Badji might be the best of the bunch).
Looks like this is happening much sooner then later. Ipswich have obtained their replacements. http://www.eadt.co.uk/sport/ipswich...leeson-on-loan-from-birmingham-city-1-5361256 Two new arrivals means Tommy Smith and Kevin Bru are likely to exit Portman Road. Smith is set to join his former New Zealand boss Anthony Hudson at MLS side Colorado Rapid, while the transfer-listed Bru is interesting clubs in France and Poland.
https://www.itfc.co.uk/news/2018/january/ipswich-town-sign-cameron-carter-vickers/ It’s happening! The above quote is straight from Ipswich. I bet we hear very something soon. It could be today since it’s MLS Draft day and Sjöberg is on the trading block. We can have fellow American Cameron Carter-Vickers to thank. He was signed, on loan, for the remainder of the season, by Ipswich this morning. CCV is a direct replacement for Smith at CB.
Looked at a few "SuperDraft" reports and all talk about the lack of talent in this year outside the first 7-10 picks.
Not surprising. Most of the “talent” was snapped up and signed via Homegrown. That’s the way it should be. As academies / USL reserve sides grow and grow that pathway will become more used. There will still be a need for a draft to unearth those gems but it should be limited to one round not four.
I could see going two, just to make the draft day something meaningful and on the off-chance there's a big year, but it should have been cut back to that 3 years ago.
We might want to pump the brakes on CB Tommy Smith, given this: Ipswich is midtable and is unlikely to either push for a promotional playoff spot or is in danger of relegation. It’s 39 goals conceded is the sixth worst in the 24 team league so there should be openings to play in defense. Well........to be fair......Smith has only been apart of 3 of those matches all of which were starts. Smith had a significant hamstring injury that kept him out most of the 1st half of the season. He returned from injury in December and from what I understand, was kept on the bench as soon as transfer rumblings started popping up.
My SuperDraft prediction: GK (copying Jason) and F Gordon Wild. All of which will immediately be sent to USL.
I received an email from the Rapids about watching the Super draft live. I'm surprised they wanted to draw attention to that. Fans have been trained by other sports to expect a consolation price in a high draft pick after a horrible season. (Draft day was quite exciting there for the Avs for a while.)
Interesting.......... could it signal trading away Sjoberg for picks, moving up in the Draft, thus clearing way for Tommy Smith signing? I won't watch the draft but my interest is midly sparked since the Rapids sent out that email.
They also sent out an email two years ago to hype up us having the #2 pick that year, only for us to trade it for the #1 spot in the allocation order. What the marketing arm hypes and what the soccer arm does are not related at all.
Rapids select forward Alan Winn of North Carolina with the #25 pick. Never heard of him. Charlotte bound I’m sure.
Rapids select forward Frandtzy Pierrot from Coastal Carolina with the #27 pick. Never heard of him either. Again, Charlotte bound, I’m sure. And yes..........I was super bored at work and was on lunch so I tuned in. Smh.
Damn....philly just pulled off a HUGE trade getting David Accam and a total of $1.3M of TAM and GAM money. Man, wish we had gotten him.
Unrelated to the draft... In addition to Smith's way to CO being paved with new Ipswich CB signings, apparently the Polish forward I mentioned yesterday (presumably) targeted to replace Keseru at Ludogorets has now officially signed with Ludogorets. So, the pieces may be in alignment for an imminent Keseru move to the Rapids... if you believe the speculation. This domino effect and Keseru speculation have been tracked in both Polish and Bulgarian news outlets, so hedging bets that there's some truth and traction to this theory. FWIW... 954417275448320002 is not a valid tweet id
Interesting that we passed on F Gordon Wild, considering he was a GA player, and took a different international forward instead.
