I've been to quite a few college football games in a number of different large venues (at least 3 over 100K). I've learned, the hard way, to head in about an hour before kickoff (I also enjoy the bands, so it's not a bad deal). Beaver Stadium, for one, has only four gates. It got really bad the year they added the new security restrictions like the NFL. Ohio Stadium's gates used to be really small, and folks often got jammed up there. The first time the Jackets added the metal detectors, etc. a few years back (in preparation for the playoffs), it did take a fair bit longer to get in. And I don't even want to talk about parking snafus I've seen. As far as notice goes, if you get the MATCHDAY e-mail, it said this: TICKET INFORMATION 2017 Crew SC Playoff tickets are exclusively available through the print at home and mobile entry option. Season Ticket holders and group ticket buyers can accessed through Crew SC Account Manager. Tickets purchased through www.ticketmaster.com may be accessed through your Ticketmaster online account. Physical tickets will not be available for mail or Will Call pick up. ARRIVE EARLY MAPFRE Stadium looks forward to hosting this Audi 2017 MLS Cup Playoffs Eastern Conference Semifinal match tomorrow. As always, we are in constant collaboration with law enforcement and Major League Soccer on security protocol. MAPFRE Stadium continues to value the safety and enhanced safety of all guests as its highest priority. As part of our commitment to provide the safest environment possible, out of an abundance of caution, enhanced security procedures including pat-down screenings will be in place for the match. More Info. The one for the conference final was similar. The link takes you to the team's web page--which was posted the night before. And as I've noted otherwise, this kind of security and lines was pretty similar for some of the US-Mexico games. But folks knew to go in early. Now, did PSV take advantage of the fact that folks didn't get in early this to announce a lower attendance? Wouldn't shock me. Did they do this intentionally? Well, if so, why send out the Matchday e-mail and post the enhanced security info on the site? Is CSC always competent? Doubtful. We've heard too many stories, here and elsewhere. I get folks being upset with that. At the same time, you cannot always expect to be at your tailgate up to 15 min before kickoff and expect to get in fast, just because you've done it before (as some posters on here noted that they expected). I'd like to ask, how many of you did not get in in time who were in line at least 30 min before game time? 45 min? I think Mrs KG and I went in about 45 min before. They did also open the gates an extra 30 min early.
Chants of "Save the Crew" filled the draft hall as Garber announced the first draft pick. It's at 14:40 of this video: And there's this: Supporters around the ballroom have been directed to drop the “Save The Crew” chant by league officials. #SuperDraft— The Seeing Red Podcast (@SeeingRedNY) January 19, 2018 Yeehaw.
So there was a Save The Crew chant during the first pick of the draft, and then by the second the chanters were exhausted, not mic'd, or squashed by MLS weasels.
Do they really think demanding the fans stop chanting is a good PR strategy? This is just going to get amped up on social media. The head security guy and the deputy commissioner came over to the Sons of Ben and said that, if we chant “#SaveTheCrew” every time Garber comes up, they’re going to ask us to leave.I’m okay with heading to the bar early. #DOOP— UVIJ8 (@BigBrain61) January 19, 2018
Wow. Well done #SaveTheCrew people for working with Sons. Garber is so easily rattled and thrown off. What a terrible public speaker. I suppose he performed shady acts to weasel his way into the commish's spot years ago.
I am gearing up for everything(anything?) surrounding Crew's pick at 21. I only wish I had some popcorn at work.
Out of every place that I have ever lived in my entire life -- and there have been quite a few -- Austin is the one place that is the least excited about professional sports that I have ever seen. Of course, they're obviously big into the local college football team, but any of the professional teams in Houston, Dallas, or San Antonio? Meh. It's not even a college town thing. I've lived in multiple college towns and they were all more excited about the local or nearby pro teams than Austin is. It's uncanny, and it sorts of explains why Austin has been throwing off a general vibe of ennui toward the notion that an MLS team might be coming to town. Of course, Precourt's minions, as y'all have explained in great detail over the past few years, are more or less the anti-Arthur Blank when it comes to ginning up the local populace, so we've got a situation where people who can't generate excitement for a team are coming head-to-head with a market where the people might need a little more stimulation about any professional sports.
Convention center security guy to Mookie: "I'm going to have to ask you to leave now" Mook: "Hope you've got handcuffs and three more guys"
http://austin.culturemap.com/news/s...ajor-league-soccer-stadium-butler-shores-psv/ Samesies, as a 5 and a half year austin local who was pretty well involved at the local government level, the NIMBYs are gonna slaughter this on arrival. I know it brings Crew fans no solace during these hard times but, try and sleep better knowing that Austin will do its part scuttling this deal.
I read that Austin had even more people at today's march than they had last year. And I know this has been mentioned in this thread before. (Hell, in over 5600 posts, what hasn't?) But if Fratass is a big 45 guy, then that point needs to be made abundantly clear to the Austintonians. Austinese? I've heard it both ways. How about the Austin powers that be?
Sounds like he said about as much as he possibly could. I love the line “if they tried this Argentina... maybe people die”
I have watched this short clip a couple of times now. Bretos is the one conducting the conversation, right?
