Yea I was hella wrong on that one. What a nasty hat trick.

Still no way this dude would get minutes under this stubborn prick of a coach.

He's already said Wendel "has a lot to do before he can catch this train"... not a fan of that comment. Would have liked to see him get a few minutes today vs Cova de Piedade

I think people are over reacting to that comment. What was he supposed to say? Battaglia will be benched immediately? He does have a lot of work to catch up, no point in lying.

Reports say Iuri Medeiros on the verge of signing for Serie A club Genoa on loan for a season and a half for 1M euros + option to buy for 10M + we hold on to 20% of his rights.

If true, hopefully the player can grow and show his potential - it just hasn't happened here. This deal reminds me of the Carlos Mané deal at Stuttgart.

He’s never going to get an extended run in the team, as much as I’d love him to hang around he’s not going to fulfill his potential here. My only worry is that Joao Mario has struggled in Italy.

But with the pace of the game being quite slow, hopefully he can run rings around a few defenders

Let’s just hope he and Mane play well and we get some decent sell on fees

All Portuguese media outlets reporting Fredy Montero has re-signed with Sporting on a 1.5 year deal. Awesome news! Welcome back Fredy!

Ah beat me to it. Very excited to have him back. Good attitude and can score goals. 30 years old, not gonna be expecting 2014 Fredy but I still think he can be useful here. Alan Ruiz can eat a dick, give that man the 10 back.

I still remember his last goal here the night before he was sold to China he scored the winner against Academica to keep our season alive.

    Welcome Back Fredy

Was hoping for someone more exciting and with a better goal scoring record, but better than nothing I guess. Still think he's more of a Braga player than a big 3 player.

Didn't do well here in Vancouver either.

Would like to see a couple more goal scoring threats come in before the end of the transfer season. Relying too much on Dost right now.

Ummm wow . Was not expecting to see this.:eek::eek::eek: Still remember when he left - I think everyone regretted it.

Not sure what to say. Definitely had some great performances with us. In the same way we lost out when he left in January 2016, we could stand to gain a lot for the 2nd half of this season.

But between Alan and Fredy, I'll take Fredy any day. At least he showed some hunger and class for us. He has that technical quality as a second striker and can score a goal when needed. Alan has technique but he's just so slow and immobile, while Fredy is shorter and has more agility and balance.

He hasn't been playing for 2 months so he should be well-rested, hopefully he has been keeping himself in shape so he can be an immediate option.

lol he hasn't been playing for 2 years, not 2 months. China and MLS hardly count.

He reminds me quite a bit of Mati Fernandez. Never actually played very well for the club, but the fans looooove him for some reason.

Still not the signing I was hoping for, but it's definitely better than Alan Ruiz.

People are going crazy over this signing. Never seen a reaction like it before tbh. Maybe I was watching the wrong player when he was here last time..

Wait, what? Where do you draw this conclusion from? Fredy made an instant impact on the team when he was signed from the MLS while SCP was in transition from Godinho to BDC. We just eventually got better options up front in Slimani, but Fredy regularly outperformed Teo and was a difference-maker off the bench. I truly believe us selling him in the middle of the season was a contributing factor to us losing the league. 27 goals in 67 appearances, and 13 goals in 16 appearances on his first season on loan with us.

As far as Mati, no idea how you can claim that. Dude was a stud for SCP. He had the tendency to disappear in some games but was huge for Sporting, especially during our 2010 and 2012 Europa League run.

    I'm confused.

Don't think he was our first option, but after losing out on Vietto he's probably our back up solution.

He knows the club, the coach, the fans... I expect to see him playing very soon.

Mati showed up for 10 minutes every game. Didn't even always start. But as you say, everyone always thinks he was a stud cause he has a couple of tricks and scored a very nice goal in the Europa league. He was not a valuable player at all. Theres a reason we bought him so cheap and sold him so cheap. Model professional though.

Fredy made an instant impact on a shit team.

Like I said, I don't think he's a bad player. Just not particularly exiting and very slow. Personally I was hoping for someone better. But he is an upgrade over Alan, no question there.

Hmmmm didn't see this one either hahaha..... Not sure what to make if it..... He is a decent little player and could be useful coming off the bench if we are chasing a goal when teams park the bus because is not just a speed player is my guess?

I’m happy with this signing. Mainly because I really liked him before he came to sporting and then loved him when we signed him. Then obviously it came back to bite us when we let him go and didn’t get a replacement.

He might not be as good as Vietto, but he’s a good player and he clearly likes the club so you know he’s going to give it his all I like fat Alan.

Also we’ve actually done what we’ve failed to do in previous January windows, bought another striker back up, signed an in form Ruben ribeiro and a couple of midfielders aswell. These are the kind of signings that we’ve failed to make in the past and all been able to see that they’ve contributed to us not winning the league

Matigol was why I got into Sporting in the first place, but I agree with you. He was very inconsistent. Score some gems though and had some magical moments.

JJ just finished his press conference for tomorrow's game by responding to a question about any other surprises in this transfer window by saying "there will be reinforcements coming on a free transferm but I don't want to get into specfic details now".

Another marketing ploy (our marketing team has been on fire recently) or could there be some truth?
