A gloriously uninteresting ending to the season and another top half finish.

    I love this team.

9th place and even on points with Liverpool isn't bad considering the first half of the season was a mixture of Europa fatigue and Jol still trying to implement his tactics/style.
Without the blessing/burdon of Europa, if we can retain some key players as well as shore up a few other positions I think we can reasonably shoot for a Top 7 finish.

I'm impressed by what Jol did this year. I saw a couple matches live back in September and wasn't sure how it was going to turn out. Jol is a top class manager. You can see the work he did at Tottenham. Unfortunately, Fulham is a small club and it will be hard to compete with the big boys whose stadiums are twice the size. But Craven Cottage is amazing and I wouldn't trade it for anything.

Say what you will about Al-Fayed's other virtues, but we've had a pretty solid string of coaches over the last decade...

Hello guys. New guy here in this board. I'm obviously from the Philippines and a massive fan of Neil Etheridge who's part of our national team.

We've been hearing reports in the Philippines board that Wolverhampton are having talks with Fulham on a possible loan deal to David Stockdale. This was a report posted a few days ago:

    http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...Fulhams-David-Stockdale-join-Wolves-loan.html

Any chances that the club will have Etheridge again on the first-team bench like he did last season when Stockdale went on loan to Ipswich? I still highly doubt Wolves would get Stockdale considering their GK troubles after getting relegated.

Stockdale needs 1st team time somewhere, for sure. Can't say I know much about Etheridge. At 23, is he ready to be an EPL backup or would another couple of seasons at Charlton or someplace similar help?

Hey tomwilhem. Glad to reply to my post.

I'm aware of Stockdale needing first team club experience since he's getting slots in the England team pool and was already part of the League XI bench. As for Etheridge, we are more than aware that he still needs time and a lot of experience before he gets more time in the first team, not to mention more high-level matches in the international level. If you well-remember his debut in the Europa League match against Odense last December that ended in a draw, his performance got positive reviews, and was Goal.com's man of the match for Fulham. My fellow in the Philippines board says that he is still very young at 22 and still has a lot to learn. In contrast Stockdale is turning 27 and is now only getting a chance for first time action as a starter with a Premiership team after subbing this last few years.

On the other hand, being on the Philippine team, it's quite an honour for him to grant this spot, especially being part of the 2010 Suzuki Cup (Southeast Asian Football Championships) squad that reached the semi-finals by defeating then-defending champion Vietnam, which awakened the awareness of the sport in the country. Most recently, he was part of the squad in the 2012 Asian Challenge Cup where the team finished third place. He is already considered a seasoned international and has a large following in Asia. I believe Martin Jol still listens to the advice of the goalkeeping staff who is very high on Neil for this reason.

By the way, what's this trouble with Clint Dempsey concerning Martin Jol's complaints about him being too disinterested playing for them anymore? Saw the news he got fined two weeks wages and was left out in the season opener vs. Norwich. :cautious:

I don't even pretend to know what goes on with Clint anymore. It seems like every single year, he starts the season in the doghouse or having to prove himself all over again. And every single year, he is one of, if not the, cruicial player(s) in Fulham's season.

It's almost a cliche at this point.

Hahaha! Clint has some sort of crisis going on here. It's so ironic that towards the end of a season he almost always become Fulham's hero saving themselves from relegation. But now that this guy is interested in moving north to Liverpool, he's gotta be in the eye of the storm now. And I believe Jol ain't liking it. :D

By the way, I happen to drop by the Fulham boards often since I got here in bigsoccer, but was never bothered to post on this board since I'm regularly part of the Asia/Philippines board. As I observed though, you are only like 5 people manning this board. Kinda sad. I'd still like to drop by here on a regular basis and keep this alive. :)

Madrid supporter here, just posting to express my happiness at seeing Momo Diarra find some new life with Fulham. Tbh, I thought he'd retire after his spell at Monaco, and was pleasantly suprised to see him playing well, and being more fit than he has seemed in a long while. What do the fans think about him?
Hope you guys sort the Dempsey issue soon, be good if he stays but knowing he ultimately wants out is it worth it to keep him?

I think that they pretty much have to sell him at this point. Would love to see him stay, plus, is Liverpool going to be in the Champions League soon anyways? But Dempsey is ambitious and I can understand his desire to move to a bigger club.

In an interview to Philippine media, Neil Etheridge, the current 3rd string 'keeper, revealed that he has endured a "shaky" pre-season at the club. Rumors surrounded the possible loaning out of number two goalkeeper David Stockdale (to Wolverhampton), which would have made way for the Azkal's first-choice keeper to fill the void. But the move failed to materialize and both back-up keepers remain at the club, competing for the number one slot currently held by Australian Mark Schwarzer.

"Pre-season has been confusing for me, not really knowing. With Stockdale not going out on loan, at the moment I'm still sitting as number 3, but I have to look at the bigger picture, I'm still young," Etheridge said.

"It's frustrating because I'd like to be on the bench, or I'd like to go out on loan and play football," he added.

He also commented on the move of Moussa Dembélé and Clint Dempsey to Tottenham, and the entry of Kieran Richardson from Sunderland, Ashkan Dejagah from Wolfsburg, and Dimitar Berbatov from Manchester United.

    "Berbatov has been at some big clubs. He's the kind of player you love to play against, but to have him in your team, for Fulham football club it's a great thing," he said.[/I}

FULHAM EYE STANDARD LIEGE KEEPER SINAN BOLAT

    Keeper Sinan Bolat

    By Daily Express Reporter

FULHAM are lining up a January move for Standard Liege’s Turkish keeper Sinan Bolat after letting him do his rehabilitation at Craven Cottage.
Bolat, 24, has been out since June with a cruciate knee ligament injury, but Martin Jol wants him as understudy to Mark Schwarzer, who is 40 next month.
He invited Bolat to train with a view to making a £2million bid for the 6ft 3ins keeper.

I was wondering are there any mods on here who can clean up the forum? We have four stickies up top that haven't seen a post in over a year, plus I think we could use a better catchphrase than "avoiding relegation since 2005", the club has moved beyond that. How about, "Come on you Whites!"

As the originator of that catchphrase, I'll happily agree we're due for a new one.

Our more recent EPL results have been 12th, 8th, 9th, with the current season putting us in that same strata.

There aren't exactly a lot of us around here though, so unless the rest of the semi-active Fulham supporters chime in, I don't think it matters much.

I think that if we start posting regularly, then others will also chime in more often. There have got to be a decent number of Fulham supporters around... good club.

Tom, do you have any idea who the moderators are? Yourself? Others?

    Thanks...

I was... like 5 years ago or something. Haven't the foggiest who's the Fulham forum mod now actually and can't imagine we'd even need one, short of the sticky thread clean up you suggested.

I talked to the guys at the Bristol Rovers forum website and they told me that a number of suitors are lining up for goalkeeper Neil Etheridge should he be let go by the end of the season (the end of his current contract). With Bolat coming, they feel Martin Jol isn't considering to extend Neil's contract anytime soon, so it's best to let him go to the lower-ranks.

They told me a Championship team, a League 1 team (was it Bradford City, I heard?), a German 3. Liga team, and an east-coast MLS team (unlikely as of the moment IMO) are rumoured suitors for Etheridge as of the moment. They are also optimistic their new manager at Bristol Rovers will consider to convince him to try out as well.

Any signs so far? I've been expecting Neil not to leave the club, for now.

This team desperately needs a right winger... I am not sold on Dejagah at all. 0 goals, 0 assists. I am willing to stick with Kacaniclik on the left but we could use someone on the right. Winger is very important because those guys feed Berbatov.

We cannot direct the attack solely through Ruiz in the middle. Also looking forward to getting Diarra back, even if Karagounis has been in great form. Would like to strengthen the back line as well. Cheers.

Fulham manager Martin Jol has told The Guardian that he insists to keep goalkeeper Mark Schwarzer in the club beyond the 2014 World Cup.

The form of the Australian veteran, 40, who is set to go with his country to Rio de Janeiro for the World Cup next year, is the reason David Stockdale is on loan at the Championship side Hull City and Jol accepts that he might have to let the 27-year-old go permanently.

"I'm always looking for a good goalkeeper. I've got another good goalkeeper who's 23, Neil Etheridge, and he's very talented, but he needs to play. So maybe we will put him on loan. Stockdale is already on loan; so I have a problem. We need one or two goalkeepers. Hopefully we can get competition for places because that's the ideal."
