Yeah, the FIFA rule doesn't apply here (I believe). If it were MLS, it definitely wouldn't. Most of the rest of the world doesn't use American style trades. Instead they transfer players, with cash going the other way. The limit on transfers is a reaction to the Bosman ruling, which did away with the international soccer's version of the old MLB Reserve Clause. In the past, teams could hold onto the rights of out of contract players. Now players out of contract are free to go whereever they want. The FIFA limit is to prevent players from forcing transfers by refusing to play (amongst other things).

Labbé on "medical leave" remainder of season. Honestly reads like they're releasing her without releasing her
Could be, but personally I think it has to do with the mental health issues that Labbé has said she's struggled with recently: .@washspirit's @stephlabbe1 opens up about winning bronze at the Olympics and staying focused in this @NWSL exclusive. #NWSLonLIFETIME pic.twitter.com/7teyKqOx3m— Lifetime (@lifetimetv) September 5, 2017 She'll hopefully be back once she gets healthy again. EDIT to clarify: My hope is that it was Labbe's choice to leave in order to get healthy, and not that anyone pushed her to leave because she recently admitted to having some struggles with her mental health.
That video interview was very moving. At the beginning of the season I had called out Stephanie Labbé as one of the most impressive GKs in NWSL: despite Washington not working at best as a team, she was making a great number of saves, some of them looking nigh impossible at times. I guess she was nominated multiple times for Save of the Week and, if i am not wrong, she actually won that award at least once or twice. She was a player I liked a lot, so it made me sad when it seemed like she was somehow left by the wayside. I wasn't aware at all of her history of mental health struggles. And I have to say that I can relate very well, because I personally had to fight against depression in the past, and I know very well what this means. When I was looking at Stephanie Labbé, a beautiful young woman and an outstanding athlete, professionally playing in the most high-profile league in the world for her sport, and managing to stand out at that with some impressive performances, I would have never believed that such a woman could have felt unease in her life, let alone depression. She gave me the impression that everyone around her should have unconditionally appreciated her, and that she should have felt like she was loved. Now that I know her better, I am even more of a fan of her . I wish I could somehow let her know that there are persons feeling for her and strongly supporting her, out there. For sure, from now on, I am one of them!

IS it me or is this offseason relatively quiet in terms of new player movement?? What is everyone waiting for??? Anyway here is some news from the reign. This have all the hallmark of being a Harvey signing. If that is the case I'm concerned because Taylor is notorious for not playing to her potential when everything is not perfect for her. KC issue aside... Stability. NWSL is stabilizing, and that's a good thing. It's not like there hasn't been roster news, but almost all of the roster news thus far has been players staying with their teams. Chicago has kept almost everyone, and I thought I'd seen some messages from Houston and Washington also announcing who they were keeping. I honestly think it's good if teams are in general starting to keep players - it helps fans connect better when more than half of the starting lineup isn't new players every year.
This has definitely not been a popular signing, judging by the reaction of the hardcores. I've seen a lot of unhappy fans, many of whom are so angry that they are demanding refunds of season tickets because she's going there.
Taylor (along with a few other players) made some really stupid, and quite frankly tone-deaf, public statements supporting Mark Sampson during and after the scandal with Aluko.
He asked Spence how many times she had been arrested. And he told Akula to be sure her Nigerian relatives didn’t bring Ebola to Wembley. Then she was told who would lose money if she didn’t retract. http://metro.co.uk/2017/10/18/fa-ap...ootballers-for-managers-racist-jokes-7009705/ As to what she said: http://www.bbc.com/sport/football/41311976
Thanks. I had followed Aluko's allegations and consequent (or "not consequent", according to their federation) Sampson's firing since the beginning of the story. The only thing I didn't know was the exact nature of Taylor's words. I listened to them and, although she depicts NT's environment as an unlikely and optimistic La La Land, I didn't seem to hear anything directly addressed at Aluko, as I had seemed to understand from some posts above. Sure, this way she indirectly calls Aluko a liar or an impostor, and this is serious; it's just that I didn't specifically hear "very poorly thought out statements regarding Aluko", as stated above.
Agreed, except that I didn't even hear the indirect calling Aluko a liar. Maybe that just means that I'm not good enough at reading between the lines, but I hear her saying that Sampson didn't bully her and I don't interpret that as implying that he didn't bully Aluko either.
God forbid people have different opinions of a situation. And Taylor's comments are really quite benign.
Seriously? Returning season tickets over this? That's so dumb. Yes, let's withdraw support for our women's soccer team, which needs every fan it can get, over basically nothing. I don't get the outrage.
Fans did not like her backing a "racist" manager rather than her team-mates. It not all black and white but he was found guilty of using discriminating words.
