DId a deep dive and found this in regards to his game for PSG U19s last Sunday.... http://www.lestitisdupsg.fr/11j-u19-le-havre-ac-6-psg-5-1-1-0-1-toujours-mieux-que-rien/ The game finished 1-1, and here's the important part... 45 '+ 3': Penalty for Paris, transformed by Postolachi. It is Diop who is at fault by cutting Weah in the surface. [0-1] So, Timothy Weah won the penalty last Sunday that led to his team's only goal. Also.. 57 ': Weah's center-shot vicious but Yahia Fofana intervenes! 89 ': On a counter, Weah goes alone to goal but Yahia Fofana intervenes!
Video from ESPN: Is Weah set to break into PSG's first team? http://www.espnfc.com/french-ligue-1/9/video/3276227/is-weah-set-to-break-into-psgs-first-team
Did another deep dive, and he did not play today (Sunday) for PSG U19s. Likely just rest or something similar with a big game coming up this Wednesday against Celtic.
I see it very difficult for Weah to play for PSG. Maybe if he went to a mid table team he can have a better chance at playing. I hope he doesn't go to waste. We need fowards in the USMNT
Hope I’m wrong about him but I’m not optimistic or confident that he will take his chance and run with it if he gets into a few cup games.
Weah got hype before the WC solely because of his name, and now that he actually did have a good performance, the hype of people who've never seen him before is going to be unbearable. It's a similar situation to the federation hyping up certain prospects and ignoring others based on perceived fan interest.
weah looked promising during the wc, though hardly utterly dominating against quality opposition. plus you pretty much need to be pulisic level to get minutes at 18 for psg?
This is wrong. Weah has always been held in much higher regard at PSG and within French development circles than he has in the states. Precisely because they actually have seen him play on a regular basis and they’ve witnessed his outstanding production over the past two years at the youth level, often playing above his age group. Weah carries a prominent last name but he also has a ton of ability and an undeniable record of production, those traits have been recognized in certain circles before he was even getting first XI looks with the U.S U17’s.
I'm not saying I don't think the guy is good, just like I don't think that the players that the US media hypes up aren't good (Sargent, Adams come to mind). It's just that they try to create news out of nothing since they think it'll bring them hits. For example, I'm fairly certain this ESPNFC video is a video and not an article because it makes it seem like its less full of crap when read aloud. Here's this guy's train of thought on the question "Is Weah set to break into PSG's first team?": 1. "We've seen talented players not being able to make it through"- essentially giving ESPN a fallback if he doesn't make it through 2. Mentions PSG have to sell a lot of players, and then the guy throws out the names of half of their attacking players 3. Says all these players leaving could lead to Weah debuting in a domestic cup, and then says that although he hasn't played in any first team friendlies, other players have 4. Then says if Weah does get an appearance in a cup, he needs to take advantage of it 5. Then says PSG should loan out Weah in January 6. Then says Weah might go somewhere else if he doesn't get chances at PSG Which, obviously, culminates in a clear answer of the question "Is Weah set to break into PSG's first team?". Solely was obviously the wrong word as this kid is nothing like Brooklyn Beckham, but I'll wait for real news instead of this crap.
French development circles? What do they know? We got Pulisick! All theu have is Dembele, Pogba, Martial, Coman, Umtiti, Mbappe, and some other bums playing for Madrid, Barca, Bayern, and some other small clubs. 'Merica!
I think you're way over thinking it and being a bit cynical. I mean I get that the most common tool used to combat hype is anti-hype, but all of the points that were actually explicitly made in the video are reasonable, the guy just happens to work for ESPN FC. At the end of the day after Cavani, Neymar, and Mbappe, there isn't another pure forward in the senior squad. It's not that unreasonable to think that the one of their brightest forward prospects could potentially make an appearance or get an opportunity. Especially considering the degree to which he's been fast-tracked within their academy to date.
Yup that post was anti-hype 101. Some hype may annoy people, but nothing is worse than the anti-hype that always ends in a Freddy Adu reference
Out of curiosity, where are you getting this from? I always assumed they considered him an average/slightly-above-average prospect, but I just pulled that out of my ass.
Entirely anecdotal, that's just been my perception the past two years but I do think yours would be an unfair assumption. There's a lot to suggest that he's viewed in high regard at PSG. For one, he's the youngest player at the club on a professional contract. Average prospects don't get pro contracts, and they certainly don't jump the queue. Then when you look at his body of work to date within their youth set up, it's just super impressive. He's spent most of his time playing up an age group and he's scored about a million goals. Decisive goals in big matches, wonder goals, poachers goals, you name it. He's won consecutive French U17 Championships in his time there, in his first final I remember him scoring the match winner, again playing up an age group. He's got a great goal scoring record in the UEFA Youth League against clubs like Real Madrid and Bayern. PSG also play in a lot of other high profile international tournaments, I recall Weah wining a golden ball/boot. He basically showed up at PSG at 15yo and was immediately the man. Meanwhile he was involved in the USYNT set up the entire time, and was never really talked about until 2017. Probably because he didn't really stick out amongst some of our other top prospects for for whatever reason, but the kid has a resume and I’ve always been under the impression that European scouts were paying attention.

Off the bench at 66' as PSG II beat Saint-Priest 2 - 0 in France's National 2 (Group B) Good result for the re-emergent PSG II as they climb up the table
Do you know if this is his debut at this level? EDIT: just found data on soccerway, looks like he’s logged like 256 minutes for the team so far this season. Also he’s one of three other 17 year olds to have played at the level for PSG this season.
Well, Timothy's 2018 just got 10 times more "interesting": Former FIFA World Player of the Year George Weah has been elected president of Liberia. https://t.co/Uc6M0uEV4I pic.twitter.com/764hyp5oZR— ESPN FC (@ESPNFC) December 28, 2017
