AFC Awards Full list of nominees Asako Takakura was nominated again for best coach along with Gao Hong (CHN) and Letecia Bautista (PHI) Hinata Miyazawa was nomonated for youth player of the year along with Kim Kyong-yong and Sung Hyang-sim (both PRK)
Today's result: Nojima (Minamino 2, Shono, Ishida) 4-3 Waseda (Murakami, Kono, Nakamura) Urawa (Sugasawa) 1-1 (PK 5-3) Mynavi (Yasumoto)
This was the match that had to crown the surprise-semifinalist of the tournament (this part of the bracket should have normally had INAC): I see it was an hard-fought match and the result was very close. If an university team would have reached the semifinals, would it have been a record? Anyway, it was Division 1's Nojima Stella who made it. I wonder if they have any chance vs the bigger teams. Since there is now a long break before seminfinals in December, do people want to try to predict the final winner? Is everyone persuaded that Beleza will be unbeatable? I personally start the betting by putting my (virtual ) money on JEF.
After the unfortunate season Saori Arioshi has just had I can't think of a nicer Christmas present than being fit to play in a cup final and winning a medal with Beleza........(but I would say that..wouldn't I) But perhaps a shock result would round off the year nicely. Nadeshiko v Jordan on Friday......need something to brighten up this cold, dark, wet miserable winter....Regards MN
Ironically both the semifinals and the final are held in Osaka (near Kobe) even though the survived four are all from Kanto area.
Weeekly update about Japanese players in overseas leagues (sorry for the delay, but I was very busy this week-end, so I am going to cover everything with a single post): Aussie-W-League: - on 4th matchday (match played on Friday), Melbourne City lost an away match vs Sydney FC Women by 3-2. So now City has 2 wins and 2 losses: not a great start for Kinga's team. Yukari played all of the match (oddly, apparently there wasn't any subsititution for her team). For some reason, I wasn't able to find highlights from the game: anyone does? A curiosity: Sydney scored the winner at 91', and guess who scored? Remy Siemsen: do you remember the young Aussie that was able to score the only goal that our U-19 team suffered during AFC Championship? Well, apparently she's ready to play with the grown-up girls also... Division 1 Féminine: - Both OL and Paris FC won their matches on Sunday, although in a very different fashion each: OL crushed FC Fleury with their usual 5-0 score. Kumagai scored the 3rd goal from the penalty spot. Also notice her nice assist for Délphine Cascarino's 5th goal: OL just signed American international Morgan Brian (a kind of... different Morgan! ), so someone is probably going to lose her spot in the MF, but I've got the feeling it won't be Saki. Paris FC won by 2-1 an home game vs Soyaux, but Ami Otaki didn't get any minute of playing time. Highlights (Paris FC at about 0':50", OL at about 2':50"): Frauen-Bundesliga: - Shining away victory for 1.FFC Frankfurt, who was visiting (now former) leaders of SC Freiburg. Kumi Yokoyama scored the 2nd of three goals that saw her team bring home an undisputed 0-3 win. The goal was a quite easy header tap-in from a Jackie Groenen assist (by the way, my impression that Groenen was Holland's key-player at Euro 2017, even more than Lieke Martens, is reinforced). Now, the top of the rankings is very tight: Bayern and Wolfsburg at 22 points, Freiburg at 20 and Frankfurt at 19; Yokoyama's team keeps being in the chase for a Champions' League spot. Highlights: https://tv.dfb.de/video/highlights-sc-freiburg-vs-1-ffc-frankfurt/20022/ Spain's Liga Feminina: - Real Betis lost an home match by 2-4 to Atletico Madrid on Sunday. Erina Yamane wasn't on the pitch nor on the bench: probably she had already left to Japan, to join her NT team-mates preparing for the Jordan tour?
Challenge League playoff preliminaries: Nankatsu SC Wings 0-2 Inac Kobe Leoncine Diosa Izumo 0-2 Mito Eiko Nojima Due 2-1 Vicsale Okinawa Nabiita Cerezo Osaka Sakai Girls 7-2 Renofa Yamaguchi Ladies
Have you noticed that the veterans are in front row and the players are increasingly difficult to recognize when you climb back to the upper part of the pic? That's accuracy! (Very Japanese of them, by the way ). I have to say that I had never seen before Momiko Matsumoko keeping her long hair untied, so I probably wouldn't have recognize her if she hadn't worn the GK jersey.
Any idea how to purchase one of these calenders? Would dearly like to get my hands on one. Ps everybody ready for tomorrows game?
Oh, Kei Matsubara! I would ask you to say "Hi" to her by my part, if she'd remember the strange Italian guy who knew her name from last spring in Algarve.

I would also like to say hello to Kei Matsubara if she remembers the old guy from Manchester at the Algarve Cup 2017 (the one who was almost in tears when recalling the 2011 World Cup). Three hours to go before we all get on the rollercoaster known as Nadeshiko. I wonder what ingredients Takakura san is going to put in the pot for this one? Later guys.....
30 minutes to go. Lechus7's link seems to work, although the broadcast didn't start yet. Any news about starting line-up from Japan? Unepomme?
