It's just hours away ... surely there should've been a thread by now. Toby's out, so I'll go with: Lloris Sanchez / Dier / Verts Tripp / Dembele / Winks / Rose Eriksen / Dele Kane Not that it matters, of course. I'll gladly defer to the gaffer. Must win. ok ... I'll take a draw away. But not if we score first. Then it stays 'must win'. ... scratch that. Must win, full stop. COYS!!
Still feels weird, not to be the underdog. Muscle memory, for us fans. This team has proved my pessimism wrong so many times over the last 2 years especially, but I'm still a long way from the arrogance towards us they used to have. Winning at their place is still a rarity (but thank you, Younes)... and their home form is very good, to be fair. The default draw is becoming unsatisfying, though. If Dier can avoid any brain farts I can see us getting a clean sheet, and that striker with a funny name could add to his impressive NLD tally.
blimey, how great was that? down 2-0 ... then VDV's layoff for Bale ... then Rafa shushing theirs after his penalty ... then Kaboul's winner ... Wenger throws his water bottle ... ... good times.
After the game, right on Atlantic Avenue at the bar that NY Spurs used to meet up at, there was a block party. By the end of it everyone there knew all the words to all of the Spurs songs.
I've dragged myself from a very warm and comfortable bed for this. there'd better be something in it for me. COYS!
This is why records don't mean anything in a derby. It's always down to whoever turns up to play. First half, they did and we didn't.
for sure. it's very strange, this day. I followed that up with a direct return to the sheets, as I'd been up rather late last night. What's so odd about it is that I've felt all day pretty much as I used to back in the bad old days. And by 'bad old days', I don't mean pre-Poch, but pre-Jol. Back then, I would get up on a Saturday, watch if they were on, or monitor online if they weren't, and when the result went wrong (as it often did back then) just shrug my shoulders and get on with my day. Today's been a bit like that - though when I make myself take the time to consider the game, it really is infuriating/frustrating/disappointing (or whatever word it is to describe the impotent dissatisfaction that comes with the result). the only thing further I will say about this is that suddenly the Dortmund game on Tuesday feels as though it has a bit more meaning than it did yesterday ... and suddenly the West Brom game next Saturday feels huge.
Yet another bottle job at a top 6 side. Sigh. As usual, our top players were a no-show, you know the ones who we keep hearing are good enough to play at Barca and Real. Dier was a disaster at CB (again) and Poch's tactics and team selection were poor. I mean Sissoko, really? And why was Danny Rose not starting? To go to the New Library and play a high line was suicidal. Poch has had success against attacking sides like Dortmund, Liverpool and Real Madrid playing deep with a back 5 and then countering. Why go away from that? I think that new book he has out has gotten to his head. I mean, why write a book about yourself when you haven't won anything? We are going to have a helluva fight just to stay in the top 4. City, United, Chelsea and Liverpool are flying, we look like we're playing in molasses. We didn't look very good against Palace either. Aldeweireld out is a massive loss. Our top players need to step up.
Aside from the Liverpool win, I am struggling to think of an impressive result in the league this year.
