Re Italy: Pretty amazing, though one could see this coming the past decade or so. All it was gonna take was an unlucky draw and that happened when they got Sweden.

Ditto for Netherlands, except even less surprising. 2014 was their aberration - and really aside from 2 good games in that WC they've been utter crap throughout the past 6 years.

USA? Probably the most shocking but only because of the region they try to qualify from.

Chile? Not all that surprising to see any team not called 'Brasil' or 'Argentina' fail to qualify from that region.

Wales? Not surprising at all, especially with Bale injured two-thirds of the time since beginning of qualifying.

So Argentina without Messi went to 2-4 from leading 2-0 against Nigeria! The non-Messi effect!

Holy crap! A playoff game with more than 1 goal in it. A lot more than one!

Galatasaray is getting ripped to shred in their Istanbul derby with Basaksehir, who now join them at the top of the table (after winning 5-1), hope that this firms up Gala's resolve to actually buy Turan as lord only knows it seems Valverde will not play him even if his offense could be very useful, I think his D and fouling doesn't lend itself to Valverde's pressing style.

How did that ball kicked in Benzema's face didn't merit a yellow is beyond me. Surprised no fights broke out either.

This is as poor a Madrid derby as I've seen.

Would have liked to see Atletico win as I don’t think they will be a threat this season, but a tie is good too. The RM board is 80% posts whining about ref and Atlético playing rough. Pretty comical.

Didn't see the game, but not a bad result for LPB. I'll take the same against Valencia next week.
But their margin for error is down to nil.

Dare I make a joke about the real "BBC"? No, that's too crass on too many levels. Meanwhile Paco continues to impress when given minutes even though he did not score today he was a huge part of the attack. Maybe we need a name for that combo? MAS is nice, Spanish for more; SAM is good too, but sounds too much like Big Sam (Umtiti). ASM, well that just sounds like a suffix. So going to go with MAS and say that MAS was just too much.

I would be happy with an away draw to them at this point considering our injuries and no Pique...

No. I mean, I wouldn't want to lose him for weeks, but for one match its ok.
