Some good news on the youngster front as well, with Gribbin back from his long term injury. He's not starting for the U23s game vs Bilbao, but he is on the bench at the very least.
José Mourinho says Phil Jones had six injections in thigh to play for England https://www.theguardian.com/footbal...ngland?CMP=Share_AndroidApp_Copy_to_clipboard
Not just barely believable, but it makes no sense either. Even if playing for England may be important to Jones (which is understandable), one still needs to use his head, especially with his history...
The absences of Bailly and Miki explained. www.skysports.com/football/news/11667/11132912/eric-bailly-out-of-manchester-united-squad-due-to-injury-but-henrikh-mkhitaryan-dropped A little surprised that Miki was dropped from the squad, but there are only so many places available after all. Plus, it's a solid bet that he'll return for the midweek game vs Basel. European play and it's style appear to be a better fit for him and hopefully, he can put in a decent performance. He needs to, at this point, with the competition for spots getting tighter.
Jones will not be available tomorrow, expectedly, but Jose today has indicated he will not be available this weekend as well. Bailly on the other hand is also out for tomorrow, but is a doubt for Brighton and has a chance to play.
Update from Carrick on his health. Glad it wasn't more serious. Here is a statement in relation to my recent fitness. Thank you. pic.twitter.com/RN3TOE9VT4— Michael Carrick (@carras16) November 24, 2017
RoShaun Willams had to come off injured from United's U23 game vs Everton midway thru the first half. Didn't look good at all but hoping he's not set for another lengthy spell on the sidelines. Such a pity because the guy is full of natural ability and atheticism, but just can't manage to stay fit. Last season was all but ruined already because of 2 separate injuries: one to his shoulder that kept him out for most of the fall and then another one to his knee in December. And that was another 5mos out. Guessing we'll know the extent of today's injury, but he had to be helped off the pitch, so we will see...
Jose confirmed in today's pre match interview that Fellaini is hurt. Did not elaborate further and does not know if he'll be ready for the weekend.
Asti stands, Pogs will be lost for City (which is a disaster), but also Bournemouth at home, then WBA away. Both games that can be manageable as long as some of the injured return.

The news is not good in relation to Bailly. www.telegraph.co.uk/football/2017/12/13/eric-bailly-faces-long-lay-off-man-utd-manager-jose-mourinho/ A real pity if we're without him for an extended period of time, but on the other hand, CB is arguably the spot we're the deepest right now. And except for Bailly, everyone is back. So that Smalling (who has been pretty good as of late), Lindelof, Jones, Rojo and even both Blind and Tuanzebe, if need be, that are available for us there.
More details about Bailly's injury have come to light. Apparently, there is loose cartilage at his ankle, causing pain in the joints (along with inflammation). They're trying to manage the pain and inflammation without resorting to surgery. If they want to avoid that route, it means complete shut down and rest of his ankle. Pretty slow process and as Jose indicated, Bailly will be out for a long time (I'd guess possibly around a couple of months, pretty easily).
Personally, do surgery and fix the issue now. Rojo is back Jones is back Tuanzebe is ready and Smalling and Blind are there. I prefer to have him ready during the closing stages of the season in the latter stages of the UCL.
Judging on how the injury has been described, it sounds that surgery may appear to be the better solution to fix the issue once and for all. As mentioned previously, if there is one position where we have plenty of depth, it's at CB. Putting Bailly aside, we've got Smalling, Jones, Lindelof, Rojo, Blind and Tuanzebe even to call upon. That's 6 different options available without him. Losing Bailly for any extended period of time is a bummer, but we've the personel to make due without him. And when it comes to ankle injuries, all bets are off and would much rather the club not mess about and have Bailly go under the knife. He'll probably return stronger having it done.
Cartilage injuries are bad news. If it's just broken pieces floating then that's not a huge deal and can be fixed up quite easily with surgery. If he's worn down cartilage to the bone in any spots, then that's really, really bad. You might have heard of microfracture surgery. It's what most NBA players consider career enders and is usually done on the knee (I had it done 1.5 year ago and my knee hasn't moved right since). The issue is, the type of cartilage that we're born with can't be re-created as of yet (stem cell injections are the closes thing). What microfracture does is drill holes into the bones to promote bleeding with eventually causes new cartilage to grow (hopefully). This new cartilage is not the same. It's more brittle, sharp, doesn't absorb moisture, and doesn't take impact as well. It also doesn't last very long.
I'm not sure ankle cartilage damage is as damaging as knee damage is, but they have been doing some cool stuff for a while now with knee cartilage injuries. I got the microfracture surgery 6 years ago, and they replaced the old cartilage with fetal cartilage. It's been pretty great ever since. I'm not sure about professional athlete great, but definitely recovered.
Sounds way better than mine. I know different countries have different laws regarding that as well. That's why many professional athletes go to Europe to get legal injections that they can't get in the states. My microfracture feels like shit but I'm been told two years until it really starts to feel normal again. 6 months to go. Here's hoping.
Jose has confirmed that Bailly will have surgery on his ankle and will probably be out for 2-3 months.
Makes perfect sense to have Eric go under the knife now. We're taking care of our defensive duties well enough -- holding City to two scrappy goals, both on free kicks, and both on account of Lukaku -- and all logic points to getting this done now and reaping the benefits of a fully fit Bailly in March.
Carrick and Fellaini are still not available as of yet, according to Jose. No further info was provided as to a return date. Both players would have been useful vs WBA, Fellaini in particular, as the game will probably be a physical scrap.
Yep. He would be an excellent coach to keep on. Players that are intelligent and read the game as well as him tend to be good coaches.
