Preki jumped the gun. He is friends with Serbian billionaire Milan Mandaric who, at the time, was looking to buy a team in the EPL or Championship and was going to give Preki a role in that club. When all of Mandaric's attempts to buy a English team failed, so did Preki's English dreams.
Compared to the other 3 major time zones (sorry Alaska and Hawaii) no one lives in the Mountain Time Zone. Only 6% of the US population is in the Mountain Time Zone, which is about 1/3rd the next least populous (but also smallest geographically), the Pacific Time Zone. And just to add insult to injury, the largest Metro in the Mountain Time Zone (Phoenix) is on the same time as Pacific Time for the majority of the year.
NASL statement on NCFC: The NASL confirms that North Carolina FC has withdrawn from the league. The NASL is proud to have supported professional soccer in North Carolina for five years prior to Steve Malik’s acquisition of the club at the end of the 2015 season. North Carolina FC’s departure from NASL represents the damage caused by the U.S. Soccer Federation’s decision to revoke NASL’s Division II sanctioning for the 2018 Season. The NASL remains committed to pursuing its legal claims to ensure that the future of its players, fans, and clubs remains bright. http://www.nasl.com/news/2017/11/16/nasl-issues-statement-following-north-carolina-fc-announcement
Yes, we are. Right now we're Mountain Time. Until March, then we go back. But the part I left off that particular standard was this: b. Markets; Stadia; and Fields i. In the first year, U.S.‐based teams must be located in at least two different time zones in the continental United States. By year six, U.S.‐based teams must be located in at least the Eastern, Central and Pacific time zones. (These three time zones are required because the majority of the large population centers are located in these time zones.)
"The NASL remains committed to pursuing its legal claims even as we apparently are negotiating a settlement."
To be fair (which is far more than this trainwreck of a league with its delusions of grandeur deserves), a negotiated settlement is a legit way to pursue legal claims. After all, the purpose of suing someone is to force redress for harm caused. If a they reach a settlement before a trial, then both sides have agreed to an outcome. Nothing gets someone to the negotiating table like getting served with a lawsuit.
That IS fair. But the tone of the rhetoric seemed more vindictive than it probably could have, especially given the NASL, you know, lost the first round.
Update: I’m hearing the biggest hang up is over length of agreement. #NASL wants three-year D2 guarantee; USSF pushing for one year.— Jeff Rueter (@jeffrueter) November 18, 2017
Not really surprised. USSF is tired of constantly bailing out NASL, so they have a "Take It or Leave It" offer for D2, which goes against what NASL wants, which is 3 years to do absolutely nothing and then bitch about how unfair USSF is in 2020. In reality, I would have told NASL to get lost.
Wasn’t that right after Mandaric got acquitted for some type of fraud deal with Harry Redknapp and Leichester City or was it before the verdict was read?
One year, three years, NASL will cock it up. I mean their big “plan” is to bring up a bunch of NPSL team... yeah that’ll work out well.
Yeah But.... What about.....Pro/Rel What about......MLS/USSF/SUM Conspiracy What about......NASL Superior Business Model Yeah, USSF has given the NASL more then enough time to gets sh!t together and become a viable & sustainable league. It's high time the NASL was taken out back, put out of it's misery, and buried at the bottom of the deepest part of the ocean
******** Pro/Rel I like the MLS/SUM/USSF conspiracy as stability is best for the sport The NASL business model looks like a failed pyramid scheme...
I am ambivalent at worst about pro/rel itself (despite what morons say). I am completely against prawns.
I haven't heard anything concrete, but it seems like that negotiation fell apart and NASL won't be D2 anymore.
Well, isn't that how we are taught now? What social media has truly done to our world IMO. That if you question something you must be against it....in every way. You are the enemy. You are a cretan, a liar, owned by someone, in on conspiracy, etc, etc, etc....we know the drill of vicious social media/news zealots. I couldn't give a damn about pro/rel either way, but I have a brain, and need to hear some real answers, see feasible solutions. There are precious few. That's the issue. Thus I am a "hater"....the enemy. When social media first hit it big and started ot take off I knew that I wouldn't have a place in this country anymore. I had the ability to take individual situations, no matter what side, and rip into stupidity when I saw it. I am everything poltiicians, media, whatever BS group folks cling to hates....I am the enemy. I don't conform, I can use my brain to trash/support either side when necessary, so I must be degraded. Pro/rel....outside of fanatsy land and really, really bad Deloitte reports.... how does it work considering everything involved? Crickets......oh wait, no....hater!
Not really surprising. Both sides were far apart on the length of time. And NASL was probably standing behind it’s half baked NPSL move up idea.
http://www.frontrowsoccer.com/2017/11/18/no-settlement-nasl-ussf-agreement-unravels/ I find it hard to believe, but if NASL walked away from a settlement, they must either be: 1- Confident in their appeal (which I am not) or 2- Desperate for a firm commitment of 3 years (which suggests that they know they are going to hard pressed to have anything firm in place for a year or 2, anyway) I would have thought they would be happy with any settlement, but I was wrong.
