We are almost on the same page, I wasn't sure about Blind since he played midweek and international plus last Saturday. I was trying to rest some of those players. I do agree though. Why buy Lindelof when TFM and Tuanzebe are already better than him at EPL level. We should also have held on to AP since he is most like for like back-up to Mhiki and Mata. If we had all those guys I would have gone young and hungry against any team 15th and below and FLC matches. I would have liked to role this out today

    Dave
    Valencia Tuanzebe Smalling AY
    Herrera McT
    Perrera Mhiki Lingard
    Martial

So if we are chasing you can bring on Rash, Lukaku and whoever.

I like your 352 idea I was just trying to work the 4231 like Jose likes to.

If we're talking about guys needing a break, Miki has to be right atop the list with Lukaku and Matic. Lest you haven't noticed, he's been worse than he has been as of late. And his workload as been just has heavy as others.
Hopefully, Jose will give some of those guys the break they need this week for the Swansea game, ahead of Spurs (which is must win)...
As previously mentioned also, the purchase of Lindelof was Jose wanting to address the issue of having a CB capable of playing the ball from the back, which we hardly have at the moment (except for Bailly, who is decent at best really). Things haven't worked out for him yet but he needs to be given some time: he's still just 22-23 and his reputation is justified (Jose would not have bought him, if it weren't). He needs time and fortunately, CB is the one position where we are very deep, so it can be afforded to him, with the hope that our patience will be rewarded...

Spot on. This was an occasion to give key players a break -- and Ashur is right to include Miki in that category, but I don't think we could have given everyone who needed a break the day off -- and Jose took the conservative route, which turned out to be the riskier route.

Maybe in the end it will all work out and we lift the EPL trophy, but I hate to see us lose to vastly inferior sides. We should have picked up 3 points from this match and I fear we could lose some serious ground and enter into a "crisis" after Spurs and Chelsea get through with us.

If nothing else, what I hope Jose has learned from yesterday is that Lindelof needs to be consigned to cup competitions and prove himself there before he's allowed to play another EPL opposition again.

Haven't read thru the entire thread, but I'm confused by the criticism of Jose FOR THIS RESULT. The players were awful and it isn't down to him that Mata and Lindelof both did the stupidest things they could do, cost us a pair of goals. We aren't set up to break the bunker and we are less equipped to do so without Martial and Pogba.

We are a cautious team under Jose in general, but we are almost strictly counter attacking without our two best players. Martial had to be subbed because imo with his anger and the refs bs he was sure to get sent off.

Overall, I'm disappointed with the squad and underwhelmed by Jose's performance but not specifically for this match. The team was set up to score one or two and keep it tight. But once Mata and Lindelof (who wouldn't have been playing if Jones didn't get himself injured) intervened, Huddersfield were free to bunker.

It was a bad performance, but hard to blame that loss solely on the manager. Some pretty egregious individual errors ruined any hope of a game plan.

The team came out flat and I blame him for that. Huddersfield were going to bunker all day long anyway. Also, while you're right he cannot be faulted for players' individual errors, he is the one who picks the team and should be able to rally them so they are up for it. If any player isn't, then pick someone else who is.

I think his negativity is rubbing off on the players. His ego is so big that he's probably been a miserable sod to be around since his shitty tactics (against Liverpool) were called out in the footballing world. I think this is where SAF really got the best out of his team after a really poor result, they were usually really fired up for the next one. Spurs are the perfect team (at home) to get that fire in the belly of your players and get them to respond to the criticism. However, I see less firing up from Jose, and a more mundane tactics talk, on how not to let goals in.

This. Keep it tight against a promoted club. Keep it tigh against a shit Liverpool team that got trounced by Spurs. I thought the 3-4-3 we played in the CL would be a turning point where he'd start to let guys loose but he came back right after the game talkin about how Martial was only good because he had no defensive responsibilities in that system. In short, I think I'm #TeamSyed. lol

Bitching and moaning about Mourinho is to be expected on this forum, but in truth the most of the responsibility for coughing up both goals has to fall on Lindelof, who got turned inside out for the first goal and looked like a U14 player on the second goal.

But Mourinho does in come for fair criticism for not giving Lukaku a rest when he really could have, and should have, started Rashford and Martial together in a 352 against a outmatched side whose tactics were obviously going to be defend/counter.
