Hackworth must really not like/trust Tyler Shaver because he's done everything other than start Shaver at CB and use Durkin in the midfield.

    - England has a real big brother psychology against the U.S. in football.
    - But the U.S. has holes in their lineup, surrounding their impact players that have cost them.
    - Also, Hackworth made some real bad choices for this game. Didn't move Durkin into cm, had a marshmallowy soft center, started Watts as a fb, didn't have enough speed on the field there or in general, etc.
    - What purpose does Ferri serve as a player? I still don't get it. At least Akinola can run and has occasional moments of brilliance.

U.S. score to draw within 2. Doable, but still dire. Second half has been worse than the first. Then was the opportunity to really be in striking distance here. U.S. is not creating many chances here. Would have to rely on England stopping playing. Where is Acosta?

Well some might react that way due to this happening on the heels of the senior teams gutless choke, the worst performance by ahem the ever, for me it’s a product of watching a us youth team lose in the quarters for the fifth time in five tries since 2003 (at least it isn’t in extra time like the other four were) very Mexico/round of 16 like. At this point it’s beyond frustrating especially considering we had more rest and some wounds were self inflicted (players out on cards stupid choices on the first XI), and personally w/my caps, Indians and nats all choking alongside the USMNT, sports has become just a method of ritual punishment and torture for me.

Still excited for the futures of these kids though and that’s the point.

Which begs the question... Why even bring him if you don't trust him enough to play?

Possibly, but on the plus side he'll be well-rested for the next round.

It would be 6 - 1 if not for Garces.

Like the U17s getting an introduction to high-stakes international soccer, a number of posters in this thread are getting their first exposure to @TimB4Last's sense of humor.

LOL. I've seen good football from two tired teams. We've been hurt on turnovers and England have been better finishing their chances.

If you are clearly the underdog, then you have to play smart to have a chance. We couldn't do that.

    I'll give you an example.

We had a throw in the final third England wasn't set Carleton was high up The inbounder could have easily thrown the ball to him for a 1-1 inside the box but instead, the kid was telling everyone to move up because he wanted to do a long throw. Shit like that drive me up the wall.
